Get a bucket lid and put crushed oyster shell in it for the chickens. It hardens the shells of the eggs. Put some straw in the nesting boxes.

Hey there Bob hey, when you go to put the roof on there put a slight pitch to it so that the water runs off and away maybe put a little rain gutter or something on one end and drain it down that way there won’t puddle on the top there And it’ll be stronger on the roof there you’ll take a piece of plywood kind of pitch it up about 3 inches 3 to 4 inches and then put a gutter around it to catch the water and you’ll be a lot better off

Years ago I set up something like that but used the three board sets I cut out as drop down doors with a pulley for each on the roof, so I can simply close the doors if I have to do maintenence to the nest boxes. Don't know if the lady that bought the chickens and the cage kept the doors, but k ow it was easier to carry to her house on a trailer

I think if I got similar nesting box. I would try to make the front plate *part you riveted in* removable. Slide either end, base slide catch, two self tapping screws to hold center, top holder if needed. So 2 screws. I could remove that plate to clean, repair.m

You should have put a piece of plywood with hinges on the back so you could lay it down and get the eggs out and put straw or hay in the nest. The chickens would like to lay in a nest of hay than on a piece of metal.

That's why he had to cut the metal it was supposed to be on the other side it would have fit perfectly. the green ledge he lifts up to get the eggs is for chickens to fly up and stand on to get in the nest box.. that box style is a considered a free standing box. so smartass try to school me on chicken farms I can do this all day long.

​@@sccarguy8242 I have a friend that I helped build a coop back in the early 2000's. He has eggs to this day and chicken for his smoker. The initial cost of building the coop was a little high, but I think when you play the long game it works out and at least you know where your food is coming from. He lets so many eggs hatch to replace the chickens and once they quit laying, they become dinner.
