Being in shopping addiction recovery but still following other shopping accounts is like a drug addict having their dealer as their best friend- of course you're gonna be tempted to relapse when you're still surrounding yourself with the stuff. If the accounts you are following on social media make you feel bad about yourself or pressured to spend money you should unfollow them, at least temporarily until you are at a more financially and/or emotionally stable point in your life. I was gobsmacked when she told us what she learned from her 'no-buy'. in the two weeks she didn't shop (excuse me, 15 days) she learned that if you don't immediately buy a trend but wait until it's out of fashion and you still want it it's meant to be... ma'am you waited 15 days at the absolute most, if something is out of style in two weeks you don't need it. I would say, if you want something but you don't absolutely need it wait for 6 months and see if you still want it then you might consider if this is something that fits in your life. but remember, you can absolutely love something and not buy it. I love everything art deco and I absolutely enjoy seeing original pieces, but that doesn't mean I take it all home. I can enjoy it the moment I see it in the thriftstore and imagine how it looked in someone else's interior and how it will look in the next person's interior and how they will love it. I won't buy it because I already have the furniture I need. it's the same with new stuff, I admire it, maybe take a screenshot for future enjoyment or if my house burns down and all of the sudden that item fits perfectly in my new house.... (I truly hope that will never happen) btw I think she noticed her views were 'suffering' and started to shop to keep the followers while also keep the clout from the no shop.

The shopper knows exactly what she is doing. She is a shopping account - her purpose is to get people to shop. There are a lot of shopping accounts out there so how does she get attention drawn to her account? By preying on the weak who are clicking on this video for help and in fact are tricked into going back into their old ways. Let's not be fooled here. You are way too generous with the person. This is not recovery language, it is enabling language.. If you listen to her words she tells you she is a shopping account and that's her purpose. To lure in the ones who are working so hard to break that addiction is cruel. She is not on a recovery journey, she, like all other youtubers, is after the views. She has just increased her viewing base. That's all there is too it. She is not attempting to help anyone but herself - she wants others to join her in overconsumption, she's making it look attractive. Do not cut her any slack because she said she was in recovery from shopping. It's all a joke to her.
@Mxrtal_Destructixn2 ай бұрын
One of my biggest issues with her is that rather than donate anything she doesn't use (aka products in prime condition to be donated) she chooses to resell them, furthering others and her own shopping addiction. If she were to donate the items it could encourage her and her audience to cut back on their spending because they aren't making any profit back by donating (plus it helps the needy ofc) and it also helps in controlling overindulgence. Rather than glaze over the over shopping she could encourage her viewers to donate anything they bought and haven't/rarely used yet she chooses NOT to even bring that up in her videos.

I have started to realize over the last couple of years is how I have a problem, it just looks so different than the typical shopaholic hoarder…I would say I’m more akin to like a binge drinker va an alcoholic 🤦🏻♀️ I started to massively declutter 4 years ago and I noticed I (somehow) just bring it all back in 🙄 these pages have been helping me because a huge part of my relapse is even 4-5 years ago this content wasn’t out there and it has harmed me falling back into this bad habit because it’s almost like it’s been normalized.

Your videos have stopped me from making a lot of small frivilous purchases. I wouldn't consider myself a shopping addict by any means, but I've generally been an "if I want it, I buy it" person - I just have modest wants. This still leads to frequently spending $10 here, $20 there though and it adds up. Just this morning, I was about to order an organizer off of Amazon for some things in my kitchen, but then I thought about your recent videos and that made me stop and ask myself what was the goal I was really trying to accomplish. Then I found a solution using items I already have around the house. I think I'll give this "no buy" thing a try for September. I'll refill consumables that run out (e.g. my one bottle of face wash is almost gone) or essentials that break, and I'll use the Audible credits I have in my account that were already purchased. Apart from that, I'll see about making it through the month without unnecessary spending. I'm curious how much of an impact it will make. My current hypothesis is that the noticeable impact it will have on my life is that there will be more money in my bank account.
@kayleemitchell80712 ай бұрын
Oh my gosh…. This was infuriating! I just wanted to slap her hands every time she reached for an item. “I don’t see it as I didn’t last 30 days, I see it as I decided to end it after 15 days.” Girl be quiet! Then there are the people who physically avoiding stores like TJ MAXX and here she is recording herself shopping . Ughh

Another thing about her shopping habits is the amount of low quality garbage she accumulates. She spends thousands of dollars a week on dropped shipped garbage quality SHEIN/temu stuff as well as random “microtrend” discount store decor that goes out of style in a matter of weeks. With this amount of money she could at least invest in higher quality products or spend more on lifestyle comforts or even save for large things in the future like a house. It’s all so bizarre to me. Where does she keep this massive accumulation of items??

I'm sorry, but when I see that bedroom all I see is piles of CHEAPLY MADE PLASTIC JUNK that's going to be so non trendy in a few years. When she gets tired of the Hello Kitty/kawaii style (as many folks will as they get older and their tastes change), what's going to happen to all that stuff? Why not invest in some well made pieces of decor (or better yet, check secondhand for beautiful vintage items), since she's already spending the money (assuming she's not going into debt, which would be a whole other story)? There's just SO much of the same type of item. How many pinky throw blankets, pillows and purses can one person realistically use? Just seems like a massively overfilled yet incredibly empty life, imho.

I think it's a little unfair to say her tastes are going to change in terms of things being pink and cute/girly and that that's the issue. Many adults love that stuff into their adult life, and the aesthetic of the things she is buying isn't the problem. The problem is the sheer amount of things she is buying and needing to follow trends. She can like cute pink hello kitty stuff and not buy every single thing that fits into that category.

I remember seeing a video of Brooke's where her (very young) daughter was with her while shopping and she asked Brooke what the maintenance worker was doing with some ceiling light fixtures. Like, the kid was genuinely curious about what this dude is up to but Brooke has her bloody consumer tunnel vision on and just kind of brushes off her daughter's interest in the world around her with some vacant response. Anyway, I said all that to say I hope Brooke can find a focus other than buying the same 10 nasty synthetic blankets over and over again because it will absolutely end up affecting her daughter's development and that's really sad.

For me the hardest part getting over my impulsive buying and hoarding problems was getting over the fact that I lost that money, I would keep things simply because I felt guilty from impulse buying it which lead to me hoarding stuff I didn’t want- but I learned there is no point keeping something when it makes you feel bad and you can’t go back in time to fix that error, you can only move forward, you just need to learn from it. You may relapse but it won’t be as bad as before and each time you learn something better and new from it

I agree - I just watched a couple of Target shorts with young women buying a very reasonable amount of toiletries that they had run out of (ok, and one or two treats), but they talked about other products too. I don't think I'll watch many more of those cos to me it gets boring, and it still promotes consumption in my opinion, but I found it very interesting because until I saw these videos all the others I had seen were hauls, 'reviews', collections, shopping recommendations etc.

😲 seeing the hauls is a bit anxiety inducing. Having grown up in an entire family of addicts in one fashion or another, I know that quitting cold turkey isn't the best choice, but I struggle to see how the gigantic hauls after two weeks really sid anything positive for her! It's okay to admit you know you've got an issue, but it feels pretty bad if your profile seems to be marketing yourself as recovering without any meaningful content associated with that tag. It's definitely one thing if that's in your bio and you make lifestyle content or something unrelated to shopping, but it feels poorly placed next to being a shopping/haul channel.

I just keep thinking about how people would react if this was someone claiming to be in, for example, alcohol recovery, or s3lf harm recovery, or ED recovery; and was posting content talking about their relapses excitedly and romanticizing it, or god forbid making videos SHOWING them relapsing or purging or what have you. I mean, talking from experience, i know that there's communities out there that do romanticize their addictions and you can have whatever opinions you want about that, but at the very least they understand that they have a responsibility to keep it away from people who are actively in recovery who could easily get triggered. I think a lot of it probably stems from lack of awareness about it, a lot of people will go online and enable this behavior because they probably don't understand how problematic it is
