Hey all! I'm honored to have my first troll level played. I posted a few notes to Carl's discord about the level that I'll repeat here in case anyone is wondering. First, sorry about the ending! I was actually made aware of the cheese the day before Carl played it and I was intending on fixing it, but then I woke up that day and Carl had played it. :( It's meant to unfold like a bit of a cutscene but it was just too much I think. The level itself was a bit ambitious for my first troll level because I tried to make it a bit of a puzzle/troll hybrid with a bunch of themes. I learned a lot while making this and had a ton of fun and I definitely recommend you all give level design a try (especially when SMM2 comes out!) Second, the title of the level is a play on words of "Carlsbad Caverns" and alludes to the central theme of "blamming" (bob-ombs) "ferns" (pirahnas/vines). Also I'm really glad Carl seemed to have enjoyed his stay in Monty Mole's Mid-Level Spa and Resort - featuring unlimited shinies, a bounce house, complementary bomb excavation, and a fire flower shooting range! Monty told me to apologize for the stray blocks in the bounce house, as they may have caused some confusion to the guests. And he also says he'll try to fix the elevator and the maintenance door you accidentally went in to ;) 28:14 "I f*cking love Cilantro." -- I f*cking love you too, Carl.

Nintendo is the one that started the CP1 trolls in the first place. The Lost Levels had multiple warp zones that would send you back to earlier worlds entirely, including a warp to the very first world. Forcing the player to restart just a single level is generous compared to Nintendo forcing the player to restart the entire game.

Part of the problem with automation is that the jobs it removes are not in the same fields or markets as the new jobs it creates. If you look at the coal industry, there are entire towns whose economy relies on coal. But when those jobs get replaced by renewable energy-related jobs, those new jobs often aren't available in those coal towns and you end up with a whole group of people out of work. With AI it's a similar problem: if a low skill job like manufacturing gets replaced by a robot, the new job created is in AI Research and Programming, but that's a much higher skill job than the manufacturing job (which likely only requires a high school education and on-site training) it replaces. This means that the low skill job market will gradually get automated out of existence. It also means, however, that many of the basic needs of society (food production, manufacturing of everyday items, etc.) are met without the need for human labor outside of supervision and maintenance which can be done by much fewer people. Because of this, it is very likely that we will reach a point where it is not necessary, or even possible, for everyone to have a job. I think it's important that we start thinking about how to operate as a society when that time comes sooner rather than later. I also think that universal basic income will probably be part of the solution.

I think that, in the long run, this benefits us the most, I mean, you're creating jobs that need specific knowledge and making machines do all of those that everyone could do, of course, this is a bad thing for people who don't have any specific skill, but more and more, getting it will become a must if you want to eat, society will become more intelligent and it will have better critical thinking in general, which is a very good thing for progress. I see that universal basic income could be a good solution, but we have to implement it in a way that doesn't make people drop high school or never find a job because "they'll pay me anyway".

I have an argument for the discussion on automation and feared unemployment at the end of the video: Until we achieve a post scarcity society, there will always be some kind of disparity among workers. That disparity winds up disproportionately affecting workers with the most (commonly considered) mundane vocations (think retail, restaurants, construction, etc...). If we automate those responsibilities, then robots will be the most impacted group of workers, which could be beneficial to everyone. The dirty work gets done. Things become cheaper (you don't have to spend as much on labor for a robot as you do for a human), and people can exclusively pursue their dreams without society breaking down.
