Since September 2013, a couple with two children have been living on the Hallig all year round.[They are employed by the state of Schleswig-Holstein: Mr. Spreer and Ms. Wree share a full-time position as national park rangers. One of their tasks is to manage the island according to ecological principles and to look after the sheep and cows that graze on the salt marshes and keep the vegetation adapted so that seabirds can breed. Another task of the leaseholders is to maintain the existing shoreline stabilization on the Hallig. They also perform the duties of the national park warden. This includes counting breeding and migratory birds on the Hallig. . However, the tenant family hopes to generate additional income from sales of a picture book about life with children on the Hallig, written by Holger Spreer.

How can you not swim? A human swims on his own because he is lighter than water. I have to put a belt with 12 kg weights around so that I no longer have any buoyancy like a fat Leviathan. And the North Sea is salt water so 12 kg won't be enough. And you have to walk half a kilometer in the Wadden Sea for the water to reach your chest. The currents there are dangerous. You should have a compass, a watch and the tide calendar in your head.

You need 2 to 3 inches to drown, if you fall facetop in the water (maybe being drunk, beeing torn by your dog and hitting a stone with your head and so on). Another problem is swimming in open water with a swell (Dünung).

People can drown in their own bathtub!

How can you not swim? Is this a serious question? In a lot of countries, kids never learn how to swim, especially women. Swimming is like Driving, you have to learn, and it's harder to learn when you are already an adult.

Aber wie verdienen sie ihr Geld auf der Hallig ?

Sie sind Angestellte des Bundeslandes Schleswig- Hollstein. Sie sichern die Uferbereiche der Hallig, weil diese die Küstenlinie schützen.

I live near these Islands. It‘s absolut unique, a chellange, that not everyone is able to manage. 🤗

@@HelgaJanso-mt1ex Ist so rein vom Prinzip her ja schon ne geile Idee!
