This appeared on Nick's album "Murder Ballads" so yeah, it's kinda that. The video is worth a watch for sure as they are both younger and it pretty much acts it out. It's such a neat song because she has basically built her career on sugar and dance pop, so this is dark for her. In the video she actually laid down in a stream with a real snake on her! But their chemistry is undeniable! And yes she is very tiny and adorable, I'm not a "pop" fan but she is my exception.

I remember Nick saying he got a kick out of the thought that Kylie fans might actually buy the Murder Ballads album!

The BEST bit about this song is, according to Nick Cave they were both living at home with their respective parents so to organise the recording of this they were leaving messages with each other’s mother

From The Murder Ballads. The “rock” line has to be a surprise… there lies the power of the song and of great music - moments and elements of surprise.

This was the best review! I’m so glad they did the live version instead of the video because the video paints the picture immediately. The realization was perfect.

Kylie Minogue was advised against recording this duet by her record label, but she loved the song and did it anyway. Nick wrote it with her in mind.

Great reaction. I guess it was supposed to be a little bit shocking. We got used to hearing happy love stories (or break up stories) in the songs, so something extreme like that would be unusual. Yet I think it's a perfectly crafted song (love how they are telling their versions of the same story and we are getting to know the characters with each verse) and this live arrangement is even better.

Good to see you back with some Nick Cave. This is one of his most commercially successful songs, from an album called Murder Ballads (and appropriately filled with dark and murderous songs). But since you so kindly state an ambitious aim to fulfill (many) requests from your ever growing list, I'll repay that kindness by not immediately requesting more Nick Cave, but by once again repeating two of my top requests: Anasthetize by Porcupine Tree (live in Tilburg) and Routine by Steven Wilson (official animated video - sorry but works way better with the accompanying video).

Nick has written a lot about death over his very long career. Most recently the death of his son. But he and PJ Harvey did another murder ballad called "Henry Lee" that could be good for a reaction. I think it was fine you were smiling throughout it. The audience in that video and Kylie and Nick were all enjoying it. You could sense the love in that room. Everyone knows the song. They were loving it

FB is for family. Instagram is lame. Twitter and YT are my go-to’s these days. Look’s like he’s channeling his inner Neil Diamond with that hair and shirt. This would right at home in a Tarrentino flicktoon. I really like the vibe. This sound makes me think of “The House of The Rising Sun.” Oooo…honey badgers. Yoiks!

Yeah you have to see the real video from the 90's. The song is about how he meets Kylie and kills her on their third date with a rock. Stunning video. In a way it was very ironic because Kylie was known as girl next door that worked with PWL had no say in her career. She left them and the video in my opinion signaled the death of cute Kylie next door puppet Kylie. And shes really tiny 5"1 in heels.

Why do you guys think wild roses grew there? It's where he takes all his victims and literally plants roses between their teeth. Uses them as fertilizer. And with each victim, the bank of the river gets a new rose bush, becoming even more enticing.

No hate here, this is such a romantic song, until the murder comes as a twist shock. You both caught the relevant line. The Murder Ballads album is incredible. Many of the songs are almost overwhelming return’s to this band’s punk roots. The tunes are catchy, but the lyrics are saturated with violent language and violent deeds. Like the nihilistic, disturbed ‘Stagger Lee’. Orgiastic in its revoltingness. Then there are other wonderful duets that are like folk songs out of the past, darkened by their ultimate subject matter, like ‘Henry Lee’ with the wonderful PJ Harvey.

Yeah, do you remember your first ... rock? (Actually, you should have watched the original video. It makes a bit more sense than this performance, where everyone in the audience knows what to expect, and apparently you didn't.)

27 years ago, I was listening to Ministry and Soundgarden. Mike was still on New Wave from the 80s. We also lived in Canada, where radio music was not as diverse as you’d think. We missed it for all of these reasons, just like I could probably name a half dozen acts who were HUGE in Canada 27 years ago, that you’ve probably never heard of. - G
