Being a former SOAP shoe owner, I can say I would love to see them used by free runners. The only issues I could see, that can probably addressed just with a little remodeling, are: 1) the weight of the shoes. Those things were HEAVY. and 2) sometimes if you stepped on an uneven part of pavement, you'd hit the plate and the shoe would do what it's designed to: slide. This sometimes resulted in your feet just sliding out from under you without notice. Could be a problem if you're trying to stick a landing but land in the wrong spot and boom! you're on your @$$. But again, both of these issues could probably be resolved with a shoe redesign/remodel. I would LOVE to see how creative people could get! EDIT: also you are killing it with this channel man. I love how you've expanded it beyond just parkour/freerunning, as well as how in depth your research is while still making it super interesting. Keep it up man, one of my favorite channels on YT

Sick video Jimmy! I'm a rollerblader who began in the 90s and over the past few years I've been thinking exactly the same thing about how Soap and Parkour missed each other and it would be sweet to see them merge with todays athletes! So glad you explored this angle and can't wait to see what comes out of it!

I was grinding irrigation pipes (steel sectional and plastic) as early as 1997 with my school shoes (specifically baught ones with a high tread for the u-sahped indent) and then srewed Mechano set pieces to the grinding area. Soon after got onto handrails at school, and got into plenty of trouble because of it. Loved the video

You are incredibly entertaining. I love your content: the writing, the pacing, and the delivery. You have a great voice with a lot of expression, and I love seeing your face! Losing the glasses gives viewers a lot more visible facial expression. Thanks for all you do! Sending you BIG LOVE! Also, when you and Travis were in USA, it killed me! I wanted to say, "Hey, guys, come to Michigan!" But it was still snowing here, and it snowed 2 inches here Monday, but it's supposed to be 80 degrees F on Saturday! Michigan is best in May-June and Sept-Oct, in case you're ever interested in coming here. In summer, it's often hot & humid AF; winters can be brutal (Jan-Mar). It is a beautiful state with lakes everywhere, in addition to the Great Lakes.

Great stuff! I just learned about grinds in parkour - that's insane! I like myself (and my joints) a little too much to get seriously involved into parkour myself but I've always loved the sport and have a massive respect for it. For me, it's unicycling - I've just recently bought my first mUNI and it's a sheer joy to do "the impossible" and have fun on one wheel, offroad (nothing crazy so far but still way more fun than pavement) :) Thanks for the recent unicycling vid, BTW!

I hope grinding/soaping does make its way into parkour. I’ve always thought the same, that soaping on its own is basically just a single trick rather than a sport. Plus it doesn’t look as casual on the street in the same way that skating does. You can’t smoothly work it into a freestyle run on the fly, like grinding in skating. You have to purposely make your way to the spot, do the trick, and then that’s it. But if it’s incorporated into parkour, then you can work it into a run. Also parkour is missing out with not having grinds, they’re just really stylish! One thing I don’t like about soaping though is that it does look a little wobbly when compared to other sports’ grinds, probably since you’re not grinding on a single solid object like a skateboard/BMX, and so your two legs can begin to diverge while grinding. You also can’t grind in the same way as you can in rollerblading, since the shoes are different to rollerblades. But then parkour grinding is still pretty new, maybe as it becomes more popular, people will just develop proper grinding techniques to alleviate that problem. Or maybe better shoes will be developed to allow parkour grinding to more closely resemble rollerblade grinding.

I'm glad you did a video on this as I've been wondering this for a few years. Like some dude thought to himself, what if I take this thing on wheels and slide down on it on that rail? Bro my first thought when you showed the slip shoes is a double ledge at a skatepark, nocomply up the beginners ledge and Land one foot one the top ledge and have the other land manny with the board on the beginner ledge if that makes since. So like no Comply up the ledge then land in a manny while your fancy soap shoe lands on the top ledge to grind while the other foot is balancing the manual
