Am I wrong thinking that using the pick for mutton is wrong. Haven't played for a while, before asa but don't you have to have the hatchet equipped to slaughter ovis? My theory is that NOBODY makes a forever pelt farm but everyone benefits from making a fotever mutton farm. Those 2 things together are what make me think hatchet is better for mutton, haven't played in a while so I don't remember.
