I removed all 12 injectors on a 3412 marine engine. I turned the main fuel supply tap off. When I came back in the morning to fit the new injectors, the whole engine was full of fuel, cylinders, exhaust manifold and intake manifold. I spent all day with an oil sample gun sucking out over 6 gallons of fuel. Turns out the main fuel shut off valve was faulty 🤬

Next time use a long hose and compressed air. Type in easy syphon with compressed air by Mac’s garage. You’ll see what I mean. It’s so valuable to have that knowledge. If you’re able to block off most of the openings with rags you don’t even have to mess with the hose just blow shop air on top of the fluid and it will press down enough with a little more pressure than atmospheric pressure to start the siphoning process.

18:00 Seeing your drill extension brought back memory of about 4 years ago. Good customer hd brought their car. Did some brake and exhaust work. I went to pull it out and it started a bit rough. I checked the plugs and it needed a set. Dude i had working for me did them in about 20 minutes. He left I went to move the car and started it it sounded like rocks in a tin can. He had used my locking extension from HF. The set screw that goes between the collar and the rod inside the extension fell out into cylinder. I had to buy an engine to get a good head and slapped it on. He said he noticed the extension was fucked up but didnt say anything.

Had a fuel in the coolant problem on a Mack MP10, very weird tho. We thought it was cups at first and changed them. Unit ran for like a week after no issues, then it happened again. Tried other things, had the head pressure checked and such, but each time it would take a week for the fuel to show back up in the coolant. Turned out the older 7th injectors were cooled with coolant, and this one cracked internally. When the truck would push fuel into the coolant on regens

The International injector cup tooling for the DT466 uses a tap and an adapter with a slide hammer for removal. I liked to use grease on the tap for lubrication and to help catch the metal shavings. The tool seemed to work well, but the slide hammer was hard to use on cylinders 5 and 6 if the cab was in the way. I like the puller style you were using. Thanks for the great videos!

I bought a l90b Volvo loader years ago and got a good deal on it because Volvo said it needed a head gasket. They supplied everything needed to replace the head gasket so I made the deal with them. It was putting pressure into the cooling system. When I was troubleshooting I found that an injector cup was leaking. I didn’t know how to get it out so I crafted up an idea and it worked. I used a tap and tapped it into the brass injector cup and then used a slide hammer to pull the cup out with the tap. It worked perfectly and after it came out I discovered why it was leaking. The tip on the injector cup had broken off. Sometimes you have to be creative when you don’t have all the tools. Great video and I’m glad you are getting lots of work on your own.

Not questioning your technique, I'm just interested in chemical usage. Why hexane instead of acetone? Do you use hexane for other processes around heavy equipment?

I wish he would answer this about using hexane. I use diesel in a spray bottle for cleaning parts and work areas. If I need something perfectly clean I go over it once more with isopropyl then blow it dry. I’ve moved to a ton of spray bottles for all my chemicals and it’s very convenient.

Reason i ask is I bought a C7 truck from auction and i noticed fuel was red. Runs great, and assumed it was farmer diesel but coolant was just above the low mark. Added a little and drove it home. Seems fine, but now im wondering if it has leaky cups.
