Swami Sarvapriyananda is a Hindu monk belonging to the Ramakrishna Order. He is the current resident Swami and head of the Vedanta Society of New York, a position he has been serving since January 2017. He grew up in Bhubhaneshwar in the Indian state of Odisha. From childhood onwards, he was inclined towards spirituality and was inspired by the lives of Sri Ramakrishna and Swami Vivekananda. His family was also devoutly religious, who were initiated devotees in the Ramakrishna Order tradition. Swami Sarvapriyananda has stated that his first goal in life was to become a pilot and the second was to find God, with the second goal later becoming his only goal. After passing school, he completed his Business Management degree from Xavier Institute of Management, Bhubaneswar. Sarvapriyandanda joined the Ramakrishna Order in 1994 and took his monastic vows in 2004.
Swami Sarvapriyananda served as assistant minister of the Vedanta Society of Southern California in 2015. He was later appointed head of the Vedanta Society of New York, a position he has been serving since 6th January 2017. He was also selected as a Nagral Fellow for the year 2019-20 at Harvard Divinity School.

Without going into too much about my background, I had an extremely traumatic childhood, I witnessed the death of my father, and my mother's actions of abuse eventually led to the authorities removing me, and she was charged. Therapy helped, yes; medication helped, yes, but what has saved my life is finding a spiritual meaning and purpose to all my tragedies. My cousin was crushed to death by mining equipment when he was 27, and my daughter died from ovarian cancer when she was 27. I have turned my experiences into tools to connect to others and support them in their need. I have a bachelor's degree in counselling, a graduate diploma in counselling, a master's in applied social science and a diploma in spiritual life coaching. I am now retired and can say that those who had the greatest success with recovery and managed to maintain a more balanced mental and emotional wellbeing were those who had or found a spiritual connection and a sense of purpose.

I grew up as an atheist, became agnostic as an adult and then found Sam Harris. Swami is so right about him being scientific and spiritual. I started using his meditation techniques that really seemed to work. Sam Harris led me to Swami Sarvapriyansnda and now I call would call myself an ‘advaitist’ rather than religious.

He uses vipasaana techniques basically. As for Swamiji’s KZbin has several videos of guided meditations and also lectures/classes.

It’s amazing to have Swamiji on your show as we are so lucky to have a guru like him who can demystify Vedanta to a common man. As audience of your show, I have a request that your seating posture while interviewing such Gurus should be bit more on the receiving end instead of casual conversational. For this might not matter to some but for those who understands real Guru’s worth, show that gratitude & respect in every possible way knowingly or unknowingly (words, posture, expressions etc) Swamiji has shared great insights throughout the conversation and you have asked very good questions. That’s the way it should be under the tree in the olden days too. However the value multiples even more when one is a receiver (who is knowing ) and the other is the one sharing the knowledge, as both here are excited about the topic but not at the same level of knowledge. This isn’t a complaint or criticism but a suggestion as samskara / fine details in approach gives meaning to the whole process. Keep up your good work and enthusiasm towards self knowing & ancient scriptures🙏👏 Stay blessed.

I think what you and and all the non believers that say a object like world doesn't describe us a ordinary factors like sex, pills and human greed but what does our enviroment have to say about this subject of our purpose taking up space that isn't the place to be any more like earth something time and things are not relavant but now ultimate if our desire for image rules our cardinal ideas of a future. Great talk... mankind needs to hear this even more now with so much want for answers on health..mind..etc As for Aliens...advanced beings I like to say. You can experience them... but you need to go into those realms and dimensions of the mind through meditation and yoga... higher consciousness. That's the only way to connect...see...realise... our minds are so powerful... but in this era of kali yug... many are lost..confused and far from source...diviness. There are supposedly over 150 different Aliens...beings...throughout the universe. This is also written of in the vedas. Also...when we leave the body... die... some return again in another body...as lessons need to be learnt.. but those who have learnt...move up..higher...we become the advanced beings... most Aliens have been human first...then move on..to other planetary systems... hope those helps.

There are some people who are more sensitive than most, those who perceive beyond the veil, mediums. For an honest enquiry into what lies beyond this ‘veil', I’d have thought that mediums would be highly prized by society and particularly those concerned with religious matters. After all, what are religions for if not to inform us the ‘Truth’ of that which is invisible, unknown and feared by most? I've therefore always found it amazing how Abrahamic traditions view and evaluate mediums, and found it highly informative. Mediums are perceived as satanic, worthy of death by stoning or burning. Thousands of women were burnt as witches in Europe up to just around a hundred years back. The Bible recommendation in leviticus is stoning. Now what does that inform us about the motives of that religion or group of religions. in Pagan traditions elsewhere around the world, mediums, or shamans as they're called, are instead highly regarded, respected as communicators with unseen forces, energies, spirits and entities. They are prized in their communities. On the other hand, in the Abrahamic traditions, those who can purportedly see and communicate messages from the other side, killed? Isn't that just saying 'you're not allowed to see for yourself, and only what we have written is true. Isnt that just mind control? Isnt that a means of you writing down whatever it is you want people to believe in, whatever rubbish you want to propagate, and cutting down any dissension? Isn't that just a means of political control? And isn't that what Abrahamic religions are all about? After all, if you sincerely wished to do scientific research on an area, would you seriously go and kill off all the scientists with some inkling, some knowledge on the subject that you could possibly lay your hands on? or would you perhaps interview them to pick out the best to employ and get the best information? If your plan was simply to kill them off, it only means that you really just wished to propagate your own narrative and truth be damned!

Sadghuru spoke about kids that sometimes remember their past lives. It is not suppose to happen. But babies for example , all the memories running through their head are past life’s . But forget when the mind develops the ego . So it is not supposed to happen . Is just that life is complex and things like that happen

I don't know if they are supposed to remember or not, but if more very young children had the ability to express their thoughts coherently, we'd probably hear about it more. My second child started talking very early and was able to communicate very well by age 2, which is when she told me very casually "When I was old I fell and broke my head, then Viktor came (my first child), and now I'm a new Naty(her name)". My daughter is about to turn 9 and these memories are completely gone now.

excellent interviewer and Swami does such a good job of simply explaining the Vedanti beliefs translating the Indian language and words that is hard for Westerners to understand beautiful job. I would like to get Swami's opinion and thoughts on psychedelics like psilocybin or ayahuasca as it relates to consciousness being able to separate itself from the body and the ego to help heal from PTSD or traumas. He mentions the APA but there's new data from MAPS showing psychedelics work better then SSRIs and that APA and Big Pharma's way is not effective 20% effective vs 80% with psychedelics.

Plz do a podcast on freewill vs destiny . Sages like Ramana Maharishi have established that everything including our thoughts which govern the so called freewill are also pre destined . Also as backed by Libets experiment which shows the decision is already made in the brain before we are even conscious of it - there is NO freewill . The brain decides, after we become aware, and thinks you decided. So did Einstein . Since the choice is already made in accordance to what’s destined, how do we accumulate new karma ? How did this originate ? Was it from the very first time the soul incarnated on this physical realm- did he come with a script ? Who wrote that very first script? Swamiji says at min 11.30 that they are probably not interested in the Vedanta part, that's why they cut it out in the documentary. I feel it's not lack of interest but they don't want this knowledge to reach the common man. From my own experience, in 2001, I was told by a German editor, not to write anymore about Vedanta but on 'wellness', because "spirituality is out, wellness is in." Vedanta would make people fearless...

First time listener.. the comment u made on the movie with Bobby Deol even though i 100 percent agreed that a movies should be based for entertainment purposes however, weh throwing a little bit of reality scenarios into the mix it can become dangerous as u did pointed out. So one need to really b careful as to not influence their audience in any negative manner wich I might admit is hard to accomplish. Unfortunately, with all the different genres weh someone sees something that takes to their fancy they act upon. It cannot be helped BUT u can produce a movie that will negatively impact an audience in the minimum amount of capacity rather than maximizing it.
