Welcome to Guam! I hope u guys enjoyed ur stay for just a short time. Im from Guam. I see that u stayed at the Righa Royal hotel resort which is the former Sheraton Hotel. I used to work there lol. The second taxi driver I know him lol. Fiji restaurant was a good recommendation. U should try the karage chicken next time there. Im glad u were able to go to the Wednesday night market at the chamorro village. Cris bbq is popular there. Next time u should try Men n Joy bbq. My favorite bbq at the night market. As for the chicken kelaguin, it can be eaten either cold or room temperature. Both totally fine. They add both fresh lemon n lemon powder and sometime fresh shredded coconut. The lemon powder makes it more lemonny/citrussy. The next time u guys come here I hope run into you guys n if I'm not busy I will take you around. Thank you for another great video n for an awesome video of Guam for the world to see!!

More than that....Guam used to be part of the Spanish East Indies, and it was known as "Guajan", together with "Las Islas Filipinas" and "Las Islas Marianas". Also, Catholicism was brought to Guam from Cebu, by the Filipino saint San Pedro Calungsod and the Spanish friar Diego de San Vitores. Immigration to Guam from the Philippines started during the Spanish era, and Guam used to be the place of exile or banishment from the Philippines by the Spanish and followed by American colonial government.

Guam has some nice beaches but its expensive as hell. Restaurants are quite expensive because everything is imported from the States. However you can find good deals on cloths there. For a 1,500 sf home, figure around $750,000 or more. Easy to drive around. Donkiedonkie a famous Japanese store franchise just opened up and many upscale malls there.

Guam is a beautiful destination to visit but it’s way too expensive to live here. Cost of living is the same as Hawaii with lower wages and flights to the US mainland costs an arm and a leg. The thing I like about Guam is its close proximity to Asia. Flying to Japan or The Philippines is a lot cheaper and it’s a 4 hour flight. People here are friendly and polite, wide range of good food options, beaches with clear blue water and beautiful sunsets almost everyday. The costs I’m willing to pay for to live in this expensive paradise rock.

Guam was the place where political prisoners were kept during the Spanish colonization of The Philippines. So there were many Filipinos there, both administrative, guards and actual prisoners. America took The Philippines' liberty in the Mock Battle of Manila Bay and Spain ceded all it's Asiatic territories to America, Guam included. Then there was the Philippine-American War during which Filipinos tried to regain their short-lived independence and the Filipinos lost the war. But it was not the end, Filipinos demanded representation in the US Congress and it was granted but they cannot vote. However, they did fight for Philippine Independence in the halls of the US Congress and after many years, The Philippines was granted a 10 year period of Commonwealth status during which they try to run their country under the supervision of an American Governor-General and after the 10 year period, America gave back our independence and territories, except Guam was not included. So, do not be surprised if there are many people in Guam cooking adobo for lunch.

It’s been fun watching your family’s travels. As a retired bachelor, I’ve been slow-traveling the world since 2011 mostly in Mexico, central America and throughout southeast Asia. I finally had enough of the drama of airports, security, customs, immigration, taxis and hotels and have now been living for 2 years in Cambodia which is about half the cost of the Philippines and about 70% less than back in the US. English is spoken here and the US dollar is used. It’s far from perfect, but extremely affordable, fun and exotic! 😎

The Kelaguen or the Sisig like dish was kept chilled because its a cold food. Traditionally was probably kept and served room temp before we had refrigeration. Yea that's probably made with lemon or lemon powder or both. We only use calamansi if we have our own tree. Its expensive at the store. Here's 2 local favorites to try next time, Jamaican grill and Capricciosa. Jamaiican grill is a bbq restaurant that's good for families or groups. one family platter set can feed at least 4-5 adults. Capricciosa or Caps as we call it, is a Japanese chain of Italian restaurants. Might not be 100% authentic Italian but we love it. Anyone that comes home always has to eat there before leaving. Also many Korean restaurants from big chains to small mom and pops style.

This is not a Guam comment. Do you scuba? If you do, you can look up finnsnow vlogs. He's now based in Dumaguete and does boat trips. His vlogs about the underwater life in the Philippines is awesome. It could be a future trip for you. BTW, Colt is impressive. 👍

17:07 Filipino lesson: "kabayan" (stress on the second syllable) means a person who comes from the same town, city, or country. Also, can't help but wonder if "kelaguen" has the same roots as Filipino "kilawín" (ceviche)...

Guam and the Philippines go back a few thousands of years. The Chamoros (people of Guam) are descendants of people who came from the Philippines maybe 1000 years BCE. Then during the Spanish colonial period (350 years) Guam and the Marianas islands were part of the Philippines, I've only been through Guam on a stopover a loooong time ago maybe it's time to make a special trip next time. There's another island, Palau, that used to be part of the Philippines until recently. It may be a good idea to be "stranded" there next time.

These are my favorite connecting flights. Plane needs maintenance and you get to spend 24 hours in Hawaii or Guam. Almost always wish for it(sorry other travellers😅). And I also take the taxi to get to the hotel first too to beat the line-up.

What people don’t understand is that Guam culture is already very close to Filipino culture it gets even closer when it comes to language and sure we both share words derived from Spanish, however, its deeper than that. We have the same indigenous words for heaven, thunder, rain, stomach, head, etc.

I'm guessing you're not too familiar with the islands of the Pacific. Guam and the Northern Mariana Islands are both "CORAL" islands. You NEVER enter the water in either area without swim/dive "SHOES." These are special shoes made to prevent the coral from cutting your feet, as my grandfather discovered wearing his tennis shoes - which are NOT coral proof! They also act as a shield against being stung by jelly fish or sting rays or nearly invisible critters that live in the shallows. Yes, they really do come into the shallow water to feed. Just a little food for thought for your next layover on a coral island. ~Alexa Shaw, Just A Simple Photographer, Mariana Islands

Ah, United fliers. I'm a 1ker, so I also transit throught Guam on the way to Manila. I have work on Guam so there are times I stay and don't just transit through. Guam feels like Hawaii about 25 years ago. I know a lot of people say rent and don't buy in the Philipppines, but I also like to be able to travel light and have my own place and my own stuff when I land in to the Philippines. Fun Fact approx 25% of Hawaii population is Filipino and the majority are from Ilocos Norte and Sur.

Yes technically it should be part of the Philippines. It was part of the Captaincy General of the Spanish East Indies from 1565 - 1898. Philippine claims to it is hard to sustain due to the distance; it had eventually become a US Trust Territory. Hawaii is not; it was just too far away too be conquered by Spain. 😄 Fun fact though: Hawaiian language is also an Austronesian language which is the mother tongue of modern day Indonesian, Malaysian and Formosan (Taiwanese indigenous languages).

@@livethephilippines typical philipino’s. They over charged you and took you the long route just so they make the money. But look on the bright side. You all got duped by a philipino. Born and raised in the Philippines but migrated to Guam for a better living. If he was an honest philipino he would have told you that there are atm’s inside the airport. And he should have shown this to you. So sorry it wasn’t a Chamorro taxi driver that served you. So the next time you visit anywhere. Ask the flight attendants or the port employees if the terminal you arrive in has an ATM.
