I know we're currently memeing that Malians are OP, and yeah they could probably use a few nerfs here and there before official release tbh, but I'm actually loving how versatile the civ is looking from these games. I hope once the balance tweaks come in that we still see the same variety that we're seeing now from this civ

Malians are only op if you can survive and know how to play them. Technically speaking, they aren't very good overall. They have early age rush and late game, but in the middle two, they have nothing.

You know aussie, ur comment on the stragglers got me interested and I tested it out. The benefit of having the stragglers is that you can spend the 50 lumbar on something else before you have to build a camp. To test your theory, I tested both strategies for stragglers and lumbar camp first with 2 villagers to the ~4 min mark. My findings were that the straggler strat yielded 260 gold @ 60/min by 4min 11s mark. Camp start yielded 250 gold @ 80/min by 4min 11s. Usually by this time, people will begin to age up and transfer workers to wood; so building a lumbar camp almost always happens. . Straggler 260g earned / 460 total / ~60g/min (4min 11s), Camp 250g earned/ 50g spent/ 400 total / ~80g/min (4min 11s).

Btw not sure anyone knows this but the elite warrior scouts also heal .... and they do so at the rate a of almost a scholar healing it not how scouts normally heal so you could pull a few damaged scouts away for literally 5 seconds and fully heal em up

I really think Kasva was going to turn the screws into GG but Beasty's two culverin really stopped that in its tracks taking out multiple mangs and springs. I really think Malians shouldn't have culverin. Cuverin are the sleeper MVP and think of all the civs that have them and how strong they are - Abbasid, HRE and Malians. They are a big part of why those civs are so strong. French too but lamely only if they make them from the Age IV landmark College of Artillery, which they obviously give up if they get the Red Palace, and even that sucks for French as you can't make a forward seige workshop and get culverin there. Mali, HRE and Abba have that huge culverin advantage.

Malians boom really hard and the only way to beat them is to outboom them and considering how good they are at countering cavalry and archers, they are a very hard counter for the French

Any civ that can mass MAA in a hurry stands a chance, and needs to be able to follow that up with either siege or mass trash to target the Malian passive income buildings. Raiding doesn’t work as well because their passive income buildings can’t be disrupted unless they’re completely sieged down.

Elite warrior scouts with upgrades are beast, but you actually have to survive long enough to reach Imperial, research their upgrades and produce them. That to the trick... not an easy task.

people complaining malians are OP because they simply demolish the 2 standard civ that 90% of players play. English and French. The malians almost seems like they were made solely to hard counter these 2. Exception being english once people start realising the potential of their MAA and stop spamming longbows for ONCE.

@@typingcat9196 not really. Malian is strong because none destroy their gold mines. Once the gold mines are gone and with raiding of trade routes malian will be hindered. Whomever against Malian must built walls, outpost and perhaps keeps. Cavalries and healers are must along with range cavalry should the civ has that. China might find it really hard to tackle Malian but not Abbasid and Mongols especially for Mongols to raid Malians during early stages with Khan, horsemen and Mangundai

I think it's too early to say "nerf the Malians". With new civs with very unique units and economic structure like the Malians it could go either way: you either completely misunderstand how to use em or the enemy has no idea how to counter your units. Right now it looks to be the latter so these guys are looking OP. Let everyone play against Malians with "standard civs" for a bit before making a statement. BTW I have a potential way to beat the Malians: HRE castle age MAA rush supplemented with spear/prelate DRush on the gold or english castle age chad armoured MAA rush supplemented with a MAA DRush on the gold.
