I’ve got ten thousand hours behind a big saw, and had a mentor who had a lifetime. I can even keep the nose in the log by watching the chip color like you commented on, but what I never could do was rip a log freehand and make it come out ok. So gotta give you that one! Course all I ever had was an Alaskan so I didn’t do it much. But the few times I tried the sailors were getting seasick! lol 👍🏼

Nice!there is another guy who does this a lot on youtube, his method is a bit different.he only cuts a few inches at a time, letting the saw swing with gravity to make a nice straight cut.seems to work really well, but have not tried it myself. Best wishes, and thanks for all the inspiration you give with the videos.

National "Talk like a Pirate" day started in my neck of the woods -- so to speak; here in Linn County - Albany, Oregon, to be exact. I prefer funny dog videos, but the occasional feline frolics are worth a chuckle or two. Another thumbs up and an enjoyable lesson in ripping logs. Cheers (or "Arrh") from your Neighbour in Linn County

I understand your frustration, Wilson. But that demograph you speak of is a formidable one, lost behind the many layers of vanity and intention. I mean, don't get me wrong. I don't mind a silly cat video if it's real; but I prefer the company of a dog myself. When you meet a well versed dog, their integrity and bravery are rivaled by no cat. I miss my buddy, as we all do. Thanks, Wilson. And yes, I've seen the instances where cats have stepped up to the plate; I'm not belittling them per say. But even the cats would agree with me on this. When times are tough and no one is eating, the cat cries; the dog understands. You are a good sock salesman Wilson. I hate commercials with a passion, so that says something.

As you have the wood, and the saws, and the machines: have you thought about getting a Logosol F2+ chainsaw-mill? Taking the mill to the trees, instead of taking the trees to the mill?

Had the same problem with my cheep cotton socks, they hurt my feet. Turn them inside out puts the coarse thread away from your foot and for me more comfortable. Still cheap socks though.

If you put a chalk line down the center and then walk into the cut cutting a few inches deep, then go back and cut down at a 45 deg angle and work your way forward the bar will follow the cut and the chips will be long and it will go quicker. Now watch a vid about the gato grill.
