Just because a machine is 10 / 15 years old, doesn't make it ENTIRELY useless, even if it is just something to help you initially slog through till you can afford something a bit faster it will still do the job (If you have the patience) and especially with older hardware, there are a lot of old forums out there with tips and tricks for specific machines or pieces of hardware to get the best out of them. Few years ago, I bought a MBP 2010 off of FB Marketplace for perhaps £60 - Spinning rust hard disk, 4GB of RAM - Wiped it down, cleaned it up, stuck 16GB of RAM in (Officially supported it 8), new battery and an SSD - The thing ran HOT, however, I bought it to introduce myself to the world of Apple and to tinker with their ecosystem as a learning tool! It was a touch slow in places, but for day to day use was alright!

I will rewatch this video on my laptop later (watched it on my phone just now) but if you had never told me, I never would have known this was edited on an 18 year old Mac... and you did an excellent job! Phenomenal message about the mindset- people honestly have NO IDEA that it IS POSSIBLE to study, do work, and produce content with older technology, which is STILL AVAILABLE now- and available far cheaper now than it was when it was first released! I made videos with Mario Paint and VHS, and even with the friggin Corel version PowerPoint as a kid because we didn't have a video camera at the time LMAO!!! I filmed all of my first youtube videos back in 2007 with a Canon digital ELPH PowerShot SD1000 camera, and edited them on a basic PC with Windows Movie Maker... and they were GREAT!!! I still have my little Canon camera, it still WORKS 😊 That's one thing I love about this channel- you REALLY SHOW people that it's all about your MINDSET, and not about what you have.... You're in a one bedroom apartment without studio lighting, but it doesn't matter- you're still MAKING VIDEOS! You're using your iPhone's microphone to record your voiceovers, but it doesn't matter- you're still using a microphone! You may not have thousands of dollars to buy a new high-end MacBook Pro, but it doesn't matter- you do find the deals and inspect them in person! You set an excellent example- your only limitation is YOU... there's a REASON so many people enjoy your videos, and it's because you inspire them 😊

Heh, I’d love to see that Mario Paint VHS footage to be honest 😁🤟 I’d make for an AWESOME video! All the things you said were absolutely true, although I did just recently get a new “proper” mic, I’m curious to test it out, probably with my next video. Can’t wait to see what it sounds like I don’t know, I didn’t think all this low-tech stuff would fly in 2024, but it turns out people really do prioritise the content, rather than the way it was shot, and I guess that has something to do with how common professional setups have become, to the point where they don’t really impress anybody anymore. That being said, I’ve enjoyed slowly “upping my game”, even though, funnily enough, my shitty old videos are getting more views 😂 Whatever happens to my setup/equipment, I will always stand firm on the fact that you can indeed make do just fine with the one bedroom apartment, a phone and a shitty computer ❤️ and support from your awesome audience

I have Monterey installed on my 2009 17" MacBook Pro and the only downside is that you can't use iMovie, it just won't work so if you want to update them with opencore you would probably need to make a partition and install monterey on newer on that while retaining the original el capitan side. One really crazy thing is that the 2007 17" got more macOS support than the 2009 which also got killed off with El Capitan. Back when I was a teenager these MacBooks were a far distant dream and now I have it i use it more than my 2015 15" MacBook Pro because of how big the screen is, watching KZbin on it is seamless. If you need to edit 4K video the 2015 15" MacBook is more than capable and i personally would still recommend it to anyone who can't afford the M1 series or newer if they need the ports and SD Card slot.

While it was noticeably slower on export and did suffer from some timeline rendering issues which probably added a good 30 mins to my edit it the thing actually did it! Super late for a re-watch, but yeah- if you hadn't told me, I NEVER eould have known this was edited on an 18 year old Mac! And 12K in TWO DAYS, simultaneously reaching the 12K sub mark. Seriously! This is living PROOF- production quality is NOT about the GEAR... it's about the effort, attitude, and decisions of the PERSON behind the gear! 🙂

Old hardware? I frickin love it, well, to a point where its making a device suffer maybe isnt the right point but it reminds me of what a kid would do and honestly what I did when I was younger I used to have some 2017 50€ fire 7 tablet with android 5 but back in like 2020 it did a lot of cool stuff, it maxed out at 720p 60fps video editing but I used that tablet to cut some YTP on it which mightve not been the best use of my time but it was fun back then + it was the tablet that got me into music production which I found to be pretty "good" at nowadays, I do like to buy older hardware and push it to its limits, I've occasionally daily drived android phones a decade old with custom ROMs over the past 2 years and even tho the experience wasnt great it shows how capable that old hardware is, sadly 3G is shut down here so theres limits set as to which devices I could use :( It's honestly much more of a cashgrab than its innovation and they really start to just develop more capable and at the same time less optimized software for their hardware I hope that hardware will get more appreciated and that ports to older devices and custom software that extend the lifespan of devices stay alife cause the amount of ewaste produced is horrendous I understand that at some point hardware is just too inefficient or even has security flaws that make it insecure or unworthy to use but seriously? just a few years of updates is not the way it should be, theres "Modern" devices with low end specs that are less capable than old devices you can get for the same price used but they're far better and higher quality, the really cheap budget phone market is a great example I guess. I am new to this channel but I will subscribe and am excited for new content and also maybe an answer to this comment, I see that you're from europe too by seeing that your currency is € (bold assumption but I doubt you'd use € in asia and told you arent from the US in another video I watched) I have old hardware that I repurpose for specific purposes, my main phone is modern stuff but most of my stuff (tablet, pc, laptop) is just stuff I bought from eBay or "Kleinanzeigen" or bought/traded off friends and when I find a purpose for it or can give it a purpose by giving it to a friend or family member I am happy, it should be normalized to extend devices lifespans! :D my rambling being finished for now I wish everyone who's read this a happy 2025 and overall the best

Honestly, people's understanding of 720p vs 1080p vs 2160p is quite limited, especially if their only experience is by viewing KZbin videos. As of a few years ago, KZbin heavily compresses any 1080p or below video stream, probably so they could sell the "1080p Premium" feature after the fact. While yes, a 720p video released today might not look great, if it were released somewhere other than KZbin, the quality wouldn't be smashed like it is. (You can actually see all of the compression artifacts, smh)

those are almost the exact same specs are my office laptop, except mine is a regular pc and has 8 gbs of ram, and the gpu has 2 gbs of vram not 256mb wtf. oh wait, i'm... mixing things up. mine has a core i5 and a geforce 650m. idk why i mixed things. i guess because my first laptop from 2009 had a core2duo-based dual core pentium cpu with a radeon hd3200M. that's very similar to this.

These MacBooks look cool, but unfortunately the 2007 and 2008 models suffer from defective GPUs. This issue was most prominent with Nvidia 8 series GPUs, but it also affected older Nvidia GPUs and some ATI GPUs (including the one in the Xbox 360).
