You can always drop your shield backpack, or anything else besides your main and secondary weapon. It's down on the DPad, I think, or X on the keyboard.

@@celestinonatale I know, its more about doing that when you have a helldiver sized bullet seconds from your head. Calmly holding X and dropping the shield is not an intuitive panic response. So I did what all normal people in panic do, I ran. Then dived when I heard the audio cue of the pod's suicide burn approaching.
