My sister called me once when I was at a Renaissance Festival's King's Feast and I have a very difficult time not answering a phone if it rings. OCD maybe...I don't know. Anyway the guy playing the part of the court jester reaches for the phone, I hand it to him and he proceeds to apologize that I would not be able to converse with her at that time because I was where I was..."and phones haven't been invented yet". @stanislavkostarnov215722 күн бұрын
the question is, why are all these people coming late? could it be that something is off with the timing of the shows making them collide with other events such as the regular dinner-time, sunset, other shows or shore excursions (or whatever else)... on the few ships I've been to this was only an issue for information lectures that started very early such that a lot of people did not have time to get ready for coming back down after the day activity.

We spent our 25th anniversary (in Alaska) on the Volendam last summer and I've never been happier! It's a small ship with none of the bells and whistles/music walk/Broadway style shows the big ships have but the crew is amazing and you are treated like royalty! The food was amazing and we were spoiled on our special day and our head waiter, room attendant, and photographer made sure we felt like it was our wedding day. We will be back on a HAL cruise again! Thank you Tony for your balanced delivery of the news and letting your personality shine through!

Lol... I knew Bar Harbor would not increase the passengers. I know its hard for you all to understand they do not have the infrastructure to handle that many people. There are under 4000K people in the entire town. How can they have that many people there? As a Mainer, I understand this. You all think in terms of tourist dollars. That is NOT all this is about. There are not enough police, fire, etc, to handle the summer folks without the additional cruise tourons! What happens when someone get hurts and they can't go to a hospital because of massive traffic and bleed to death? I will tell you what happens ... The lawsuits commence. We get more tourists yearly than our entire state population. Keep them in Portland, where they can handle the traffic. There simply isn't infrastructure Down East for 6K plus people every day.

I live in a small town that became a "train stop" it was absolutely awful! More people got off the train than live in town, yes some of the businesses did make money, but not many, only about 10 part time low paying jobs were created. What did happen was our town was invaded, when a local wedding was taking place on a Saturday during the summer the people on the trains seemed to think they had the right to walk into the church and inturrpt the wedding. They thought it was okay to invade all of our private gatherings in parks, churches, thown halls or even peoples yards. It was an absolute nightmare, the tourists thought we were characters in their trips. The two local businesses (neither were owned by local people) fought to keep the trains, after the 3 year contract was up, the trains were out of our town

Tony! Love the Cruise news! Thank you for your excellent reporting. Regarding Bar Harbor, as I have mentioned previously, my opinion is that cruise line venues should accept Bar Harbor’s decision regarding their limitations on passenger numbers, and reroute their itineraries to avoid Bar Harbor entirely. I don’t drive to Bar Harbor due to the crowds. It’s completely changed from when I was a kid. It’s a tiny place that used to be rustic with no traffic and a true feeling of being in nature. I've been on only one cruise (last year), but on that one cruise most of the folks I met were terrific. And on that cruise they had a comedian who held his act on a couple of nights (one for family night and a second for a more raunchier adult audience); I love stand up comedy and our entire entourage went to see him both evenings. However, there was one unruly kid in the audience who showed up both times; a teenager perhaps college aged. He felt it his place to constantly heckle the comedian (who although wasn't the funniest I have ever seen; he was at least good enough to get some laughs). This kid thought it was okay to constantly interject throughout the act. By the end of the first show everyone in the audience knew this kids name. By the end of the second show, everyone hated this kid. And to his credit, the comedian played along and humored the kid. But by the time he held his second show, another group of young kids also decided to heckle him. So the comedian then had to contend with two groups ruining his show. It got to the point that everyone else in the audience started shouting to the hecklers to just shut up, because no one had come to listen to a bunch of unruly teens/20' somethings annoy the talent; they had come to be entertained. I think that most patrons (at minimum) expected them to be escorted out of the shows. That never happened. People go on cruises to enjoy their vacation time, not to have it ruined by some peevishly minded drunk kid. I'd say they had violated the rules of conduct that everyone is required to abide by onboard ship. Personally, I didn't expect that he (or the other hecklers) be kicked off ship at the next port. However their access to shows going forward should have been declined as long as their behavior persisted.

Thanks for reminding us about the Volendam's birthday which is actually on November 12 which was the date of its inaugural cruise. It's currently in drydock in the Bahamas with a $8 million refurbishment and we board on Saturday for our cruise to Egypt. We've sailed on it 149 nights and even with this long upcoming cruise it will still be #2 on our list of the ships with most sailed on days. The comedian who shamed the the couple is very good and we've enjoyed him many times. And yes we love sailing on HAL with north of 900 days on their ships in 12 years of cruising.

Your ventriloquist-dummy shaming story is very funny - a lot of the comedy is in your delivery! I used to perform in a barbershop chorus and the worst thing is to perform for a dinner event. We were singing, food was being served, plates were clanking, silverware was falling. Very distracting. I always give performers my full attention and the respect they deserve. These people are LIVE - you are not watching TV! I’ve sailed three or four times on Holland America and like it very much. I’ll be doing it again in eleven months to visit Japan.

I attended a concert where people who had VIP front row seats arrived 30 minutes into the concert, stood in front of the stage with their backs to the performer talking to other people in the front row before sitting down. The performer finished the song, then walked off the stage ending the concert early. The VIPs' behavior was so disrespectful to the singer, I don't blame him for ending the concert early. It stunk that these entitled people ruined the evening for the rest of the audience.

The election outcome saddens me because I feel it is a step backwards and will make America (and the world) less safe for some people. I hope I am wrong, but I feel it will have negative ramifications not only in America but globally. I personally won't be visiting or cruising out of the USA for a while and have recently discussed this with other travellers who expressed the same sentiment. We just got home a few hours ago from a 3 week vacation in the Mediterranean and this was the topic of conversations in the airport lines and on the ship. Although the flights are long and more costly, Europe and Asia will likely be our cruising destination for the next 4+ years if we cruise at all. Wishing you all the best.
