The music video and song was used heavily in the movie's marketing (I'm a 90's kid and can recall the Men In Black marketing, especially since I was crazy about Will Smith back in the day). So the music video was released on MTV and VH1 before the movie released in theaters. I don't think we hear the song at all in the movie though until the end credits. The song was pretty popular too, especially on the radio. I think I was in 2nd or 3rd grade when the movie came out, so I can't say if it was popular in the clubs. Wasn't old enough to get into clubs, although I still don't go to them. Mainly because I have no one to go with, I'm not cool enough, and I don't drink.

It was pretty common in the 90's/00's to have a official song to a Movie, especially with Sony Pictures, in fact they still do it sometimes like with Venom. It is a shame they don't do as much anymore because like you said, it generated hype.

DJ Jazzy Jeff and The Fresh Prince when he first showed up?? Crazy loved it. “Parents Just Don’t Understand” that song is over 30 years old and it’s a song you remember every verse verbatim because his flow is so smooth and the narrative is easy, just a story. They also did “Boom - Shake The Room” and “Nightmare On My Street” He did “Switch” on his own.

Nightmare On My Street was COMPLETELY IMPOSSIBLE to find on KZbin for at least 7 years after KZbin started the "we pretend that nobody ever wants to watch a video that is more then 3 years old" shit, the shit where you pretty much can't find ANY good video even when you directly search for it (except for radio and music and some but not all meme videos). Whoever is controlling "official uploads" put this weird, annoying version which even has totally different verses, and the real version that I can find now is uploaded by some random unknown account. So whenever you tell anyone to listen to Nightmare On My Street, it's important to tell them to click on the video with the red thumbnail only, and to make sure the account does NOT say "Fresh Prince" or "Jazzy Jeff" or "Sony Records" or anything similar.

I think the song and video were in the credits of the movie. He used to make a song for every movie he did.

This song was everywhere promoting the movie before it came out. People can clown on Will Smith but he made some bops in the 90's.

This is the theme from the movie 'Men in Black'. The music from the line "Here come the Men in Black" is from Evelyn Champagne King's 'Forget Me Nots'. The actual line was sampled by George Michael on 'Fast Love'.

This is a sample of the song "Forget Me Nots" by Patrice Rushen, in 1982. She is a singer-songwriter, composer, and record producer, and instrumentalist. You should react to her. The chorus is by SWV singer "Coko".
