The amount of negotiations that the production team had to do to get permission to use both Warner Bros. and Disney characters in this film was insane. Because of it, Bugs Bunny and Mickey Mouse could only appear together at the same time for the exact same amount of screen time. But it was worth it and led to a really great film. The piano duet between Daffy Duck and Donald Duck is one of my favourite scenes in the film.

This is one of Robert Zemeckis best films he’s ever worked on along with the Back to the Future movies and Forest Gump, this movie is way better than I remember as a kid, the cast was on spot on, the animation is amazing, a pretty good story that is strong and compelling, and pretty good villain that is terrifying and conniving and nowadays Robert didn’t get much love to his latter movies like the Pinocchio remake (2022) but this movie remains one of my favorites movies of all time and it does have a soft place in my heart.

When Judge Doom is first introduced, the police detective explains that Doom spread a million "simoleons" around Toontown and one thinks he is using a nickname for dollars. Later Eddie explains to Roger (in the balcony of the movie theater) that he and his brother was investigating the theft of a million simoleons from the First Bank of Toontown when a safe was dropped on his brother. I've watched the movie (and the many reactions to it) MANY times and only just got it. DOOM stole the simoleons and killed Eddie's brother to flee the scene of the crime, which is where he got the money to buy his election to be a judge.

There's a poster in Maroon's office depicting a Toon, the Pistol Packin' Possum, whose fur is the same yellow colour as the colour on the rope of the safe that was dropped on Acme and the same colour of Doom's uncovered Toon hand. The Possum's eyes are also a very red colour, and the pistol he's seen packin' in the poster is of the same model as the pistol Doom used to shoot Maroon. The Pistol Packin' Possum's poster is even positioned in a way that makes his pistol point at Roger in a poster right next to it... So, who did frame Roger Rabbit? Doom weren't no rabbit, or a duck, or a dog, or a little wooden boy, or a sheep, or a wolf, or a woodpecker, or a cat... but he was definitely something alright...

@@redmoonbloodmoon3161 There's also multiple giveaway hints foreshadowing Judge Doom's reveal as a seriously disturbed Toon (perhaps the Pistol-Packing Possum, Baron Von Ruthless) wearing an elaborate Christopher Lloyd human skin disguise, such as Christopher Lloyd choosing to not blink whenever the character was on-screen, a mysterious gust of wind always blowing his black cape behind him even when there was no way for this to be possible beyond cartoon logic, Judge Doom wisely wearing gloves when he DIPS the Nancy Cartwright-voiced squeaky shoe, jumping aside when the fleeing Eddie Valiant & Roger Rabbit had knocked over the barrel of DIP which the weasel Toon Patrol had brought into the Terminal Bar -- seeing as how the Judge had planned to execute Roger at that point, until the private detective intervened on the innocent Toon bunny's behalf -- and the blanket statement directed to Roger by Eddie when Judge Doom used the "Shave & a Haircut" jingle to lure the victimized Toon out of hiding, "I don't know who's Toonier, you or Doom."

Lot of fun stuff about this movie. This movie was the last project that Mel Blanc did the voices for the Looney Tunes. Bob Hoskins’ son didn’t speak to him for two weeks because he thought his father worked with bugs bunny and didn’t introduce him. The ‘Dip’ they refer to is essentially film dissolver, based on the ingredients listed. The reason why alcohol affected Roger the way it did was because back in the day, animators would wash their brushes in alcohol. When WB and Disney did this movie together, they made a deal that each of their popular characters would not outshine each other. That’s why Mickey and Bugs, as well as Donald and Daffy, have the same screen time and number of lines. The toon villain is really known as Baron Von Ruthless, a toon gold in color that perfected disguises and played villains, earning the nickname ‘Toon of a Thousand Faces’. One day on set, the toon suffered a concussion and believed he was a real villain and began committing crimes. Love this movie so much; I could go on with fun stuff. ❤

The facts about; Mel Blanc The 'Dip' How Alcohol affects Roger And the Warner/Disney deal are interesting. The part about Hoskins and his son, and the 'Origin' of Judge Doom, are.... Unusual to me. I have a fun piece of information for you: Hot Shots pokes fun at many movies, Top Gun mainly, and there's a scene Romada, wearing a red dress, comes out and sings during a beautiful piano song, which I think pokes fun at Who Framed Roger Rabbit (WFRR) "Why Don't You Do Right?" scene.

The mel blanc fact is incorrect. He voiced the looney tunes in at least 2 more things after this: daffy ducks quackbusters, which was the last movie he did, and was a compilation movie with new linking footage, and then he voiced them a final time in a TV special the year after.

One of my all time favourite films. I've always love how this movie mixed-up the live action and the cartoons and made it so believable, more incredibly made before the CGI age. I don't think any film has matched this ever since. Who Framed Roger Rabbit won four Oscars for Best Visual Effects, Best Film Editing, Best Sound Effects Editing along with head animator Richard Williams winning Special Achievement Award.

A noir murder mystery set in a world where toons are real and live and work alongside humans... one of those ideas that must've sounded even crazier when it was proposed. The concept later got adapted into an entire animated series with Bonkers. Judge Doom definitely scarred a lot of young minds back then; an evil homicidal toon who hates laughter and wants to wipe out his own kind.

Who Framed Roger Rabbit is a classic, breathtaking, and nostalgic mystery suspense thriller with an added dose of comedy that shines brightest thanks to the antics of the animated characters and their chemistry with the flesh-and-blood actors, and it's on of the only few instances where some of the most beloved and iconic cartoon characters from Disney and Warner Bros were actually able to appear on the same screen together in a crossover movie long before Marvel and DC even started to hit the ground running with their characters. One thing I love about this movie is how much they tell you without even saying anything. In the opening scene when Eddie watches Roger film his latest cartoon they show us a lot. 1. Eddie angrily saying toons shows he has a dislike for toon characters. 2. Eddie taking a drink from a flask shows he has a drinking problem. 3. Eddie putting the drink in his gun holster shows he cares about his drink more than his own life. and 4. Eddies whole disposition shows he doesn't want to be at Maroon Studios unless he absolutely had no choice to be there.

The thing about this movie is there are some references and motifs used here that was also used in Robert Zemeckis’ other film Back to the Future. For example: - the use of a magnifying glass to look for a hidden item in a photograph. - the disappearing ink fading out is the same “ripple effect” used whenever someone is being erased from existence. - the tunnel to Toontown was used again in Back to the Future Part II. - Christopher Lloyd stars in both films and even mentions a significant speed of a vehicle.

This was released through Touchstone Pictures, Disney's sub-studio in the '80s and '90s for movies with an intended adult audience. They also did movies like Splash, Good Morning Vietnam, Dick Tracy, What About Bob, Ed Wood... and The Nightmare Before Christmas, which Disney now retroactively sticks their own logo onto every time they re-release it, as if we won't notice 😆

Seeing how the title of the movie is " Who Framed Roger Rabbit", I would have to say that it would have to be Roger who is they think did the murder. That character was Yosemite Sam by the way. Also The shoe is voiced by Bart Simpson.

No. Yosemite Sam is the western Toon villain with the oversized mustache & southern accent ("My biscuits are burning! Fire in the hatch!"). He was the one who gave Eddie valiant his Toon gun and the stereotypical caricature bullets as a thank you for the alcoholic detective rescuing him from prison ("Thanks for busting me out of the hoosegow!"). Yes, the title "Who Framed Roger Rabbit" gives away the fact that although Roger's buxom wife Jessica was forced by boss R.K. Maroon to take those saucy "pattycake" (clear-cut euphemism for sex as well as a literal visual gag) pictures to blackmail the owner of Toontown Marvin ACME into selling Toontown to the studio head to keep Toontown from getting destroyed, because Cloverleaf (featuring Judge Doom as its primary stockholder, this eponymous business purchased the preexisting public transportation system & entered a short-lived partnership with R.K. Maroon in an attempt to acquire Toontown, but when that failed, the Maroon Studios boss was shot dead whilst Eddie was interrogating him) deliberately bought out the Red Trolley Car in order to dismantle it (effectively pressuring Los Angeles residents to buy their own cars once the public transit was no more) and wanted to own Toontown in order to DIP it away & subsequently pave over its land with the Route 66 freeway.

So many little details You knew what to expect Eddie’s character to start as within ten seconds and one word. You wonder why and get an answer, but it’s not made an in your face exposition. You see how the story uses the toons as an allegory for racism. The ink and paint club is the best example. How many patrons are toons? How many employees are human? You see that despite hating toons, he’s still polite and nice to Betty. You see why that is when they pan over his brother’s desk, as his brother kept a Betty boop doll. You see just in that transition, no words needed, that he used to love working with toons, and bits of his past. It keeps going on, and you see plenty of chekov’s guns established. You see how much effort the animators put in, how much the actors did to help make that effort worth it… I’m rambling, but this movie compacted a lot into it, was a marvel and to a degree still sets a standard of quality, and really emphasizes how much can be done with ‘show, don’t tell’ And through a few lines, they convey what qualifies as attractiveness in toon minds. The super attractive drawn toons are usually lower, if they can’t act as funny. Jessica is the lucky one in the relationship to get married to such a funny guy as Roger. But Roger does genuinely love her back, considering he was willing to run into a desperate situation armed to save her

The subplot of dismantled public transportation is actually true. It was discovered decades after it happened that the automobile companies bought up the red cars in Los Angeles County forcing everyone to buy automobiles. Since so many decades had passed, all the people responsible had passed away so no one could be punished.

The scene where Valient hits the lamp is famous among animators. The scene was incredibly difficult to do because the light source swinging constantly affected the amount of light on Roger, as well as changing his shadow. The scene didn't have to happen the way it did--Valient could have not hit the lamp--but the directors wanted the cartoon characters to interact with the real world and physical objects as much as possible to make them feel as if the characters were real themselves. Therefore, the scene was done with the swinging lamp. There's now even a term among animators called 'bumping the lamp', which basically means going above and beyond with small details in animation, even if the audience will likely never notice it (like Roger's changing shadow).

To answer your question in the title.... NO, this is actually NOT a kid's movie, and it never was. The movie was released on Disney's "Touchstone Pictures" branding line, which at the time was their subsidiary for more adult-themed releases. From the choice of novel they picked to adapt (and it's a very loose adaptation at that) to the obvious film-noir tone and setting, this is not a kids movie. Unfortunately by assuming it is, you seem to be falling into the "Animation Age Ghetto" trap of assuming that anything animated is for kids by default. Which is just a wrong line of thinking in general.

1. First time I saw this was in the middle of the ocean. My ship (USS Tripoli LPH-10) was doing a Tiger Cruise. That's where crew members could bring "male only" family/friends to join us from Hawaii to San Diego. There were displays set up on the hanger bay. For entertainment there was an area to watch movies. This was one of them. 2. There had to be equal time for Disney and HB characters. 3. Adult innuendo galore.😜😜🤣🤣 4. Christopher Lloyd as the heavy. 😎 5. One of the cartoon bullets is the voice of Pat Buttram. He played Mr. Haney on Green Acres. 6. This was Mae Questel's/Betty Boops third to last gig. Her last was" Christmas Vacation". (RIP)😇 7. The tunnel going into Toon Town is the same one they use in the "Back to the Future" movies. 8. Favorite character is the Baby🤣

I personnaly think Who Framed Roger Rabbit is an adult comedy, but that's just my personal opinion on this movie. I work in animation and I don't really enjoy that people assume that animated movies are stricly made for kids. The first cartoons like Tex Avery and even the very first Mickey shorts were made for adults. There were tons of sexual and adult jokes in them. Nowadays animation is for everyone. There are tons of animated movies made for a more adult audience with deep and mature themes and storytelling (Princess Mononoke, Persepolis, Mary & Max, The Illusionist, or again The Congress). Unfortunately they are victims of the general opinion that animation movies are "kids movies"... I wish people would think differently about it... 😔 Anyway, loved you reaction video and enjoyed your discovery of this masterpiece 😊

8:15 - 8:28 Believe me, if you saw classic 1920s - 70s cartoons (whether by Disney, WB, MGM, Tex Avery, Max Fleischer, or TerryToons) they literally have characters like a donkey with the word "jackass" written all over.... 12:43 - 12:49 I still can't believe Bob Hoskins took miming lessons in order to make it seem like he's getting physical with cartoons or grabbing them. 13:06 That's Yosemite Sam from Looney Tunes. 39:50 - 40:02 You know what's disturbing? The original design of what Judge Doom as toon is actually more terrifying than those eyes. Also, behind the scenes, the actually makeup for Christopher Lloyd's eyes looks much more creepy with CG or animation (Also, note that Tim Curry was going to play the role, but test screenings made the producers believe he was too scary...). All in all, great watch. I'd advise you check the novel out since you see how much the two differ. And if you're looking for more animation, I'd definitely advise you watch the shorts directed by Richard Williams as well as the movie that studios screw him over, THE THIEF AND THE COBBLER. A movie that took over 30 years to make, was a literal disaster, and due to interference was a failure at the time.
