English brambles totally blow my mind. I couldn't think of an American equivalent until I remembered multiflora rose. But that species is a lightweight compared to brambles! Talk about a monster in the garden!

I have noticed that all, well, MOST of the overgrown yards here in the U.S. have poison ivy everywhere. I am assuming that those nasty leaves of three do not exist in English gardens.

That was a really good transformation, and I'm looking forward to seeing part 2 with more thrills - but hopefully not as many spills (hopefully it was only Ben's dignity that got bruised!!!!😆). I do love garden makeovers where the clearances reveal previously hidden pathways and nooks & crannies!! I do hope you will replace that fence panel and remove all the ivy, as it would really top off a good job. There was so much lost space and lost view from the ivy and Blackberry that a massive cutback was vital. It is really nice to see the form of the garden returning. A walkway, a little patio area, even reminders of prior years, as the toy. You won't be just dealing with the fence if you go to remove it. The other side is solid greenery as well. Looking forward to Part 2 or more. Good work you two, in a short time.

I live in Western Canada, and our former municipality would cut blackberry bushes down to the ground and by the following year they'd be well over a meter tall. They grow super fast!
