Steve Vai is an AMAZING guitarist, but the way he meshes with Billy Sheehan on bass and Greg Bissonette on drums is what really makes this special. I love every song on this album, but “Going Crazy” and “Shyboy” are my two favorites. His cover of Sinatra’s “That’s Life” is great too. This band stayed together for the Skyscraper album before they went their separate ways. “Two Fools a Minute” is my favorite they did, but “Hina” melts me.

I have to give Gregg some appreciation...he's like a chameleon or jack of all trades on the drums...he can play every style: rock,jazz,funk,big band,african, country etc. He's the most versatile of the guys. The other guys are monsters as well

This was David's vision of rock, and he hit it out of the ballpark. It has a much cleaner sound than the the Van Halen recordings. He never intended to leave Van Halen, but, Eddie wanted to record, and David was having fun being a rock star. Besides, Eddie wanted to stretch out and become an "artiste", and Diamond Dave wasn't having it anymore.

Great introduction to The two greats, Steve Vai and Billy Sheehan. This was such an amazing line up. Roth made sure that his debut solo album was absolutely over the top and that he wasnt missing a thing when moving on. Of course VH was longer lasting but David was going full speed til the tires fell off. Him in his hay day can not be topped for a front man. He didnt have the voice of Mercury or Plant but the man was all about putting everything into the shows back in those days...

Eddie, Randy Rhoads and Steve Vai are my top 3 guitarists. Vai makes his guitar talk in the opening. I saw David Lee Roth in 1987 with Poison opening for him and it was one of the loudest concerts I’ve been to. Steve Vai on the guitar was incredible, he had to double neck guitar shaped like a heart, and David Lee Roth came to the stage Flying through the air on cables, landing in a boxing ring and then going onto the stage. I was 10th row center at the right front corner of the boxing ring. Incredible show.

Freaking Awesome Album! If I remember correctly, the song is about the Statue of Liberty. If you want to delve into another Van Halen related new artist, I recommend Eddie Van Halen (and Valerie Bertinelli)'s son Wolfgang Van Halen! Wolfgang played as a bassist in later Van Halen concerts and their last album. His solo albums are under the name Mammoth WVH. (the name is in honor of his Dad.) Sounds like a band, but he plays EVERYTHING on both albums. And there is not a bad song on either album! I recommend starting off with "Don't back down, Another Celebration at the end of the World, or Horribly Right.") In a great video and song that is NOT typical of his sound, he does a very touching tribute to his father called "Distance." You have to do the official video for that one. He mixes in home footage of him with his parents.

Also, I still have this on a Madonna cassette. I worked at a music store when this came out and a woman came in completely IRATE! She wanted to return a Madonna cassette. It was completely marked and packaged as Madonna, but it was "Eat "Em and Smile" on the tape. And it was an obvious manufacturing error because the tape had the tones, CBS I think, used to put at the beginning of the recording. She was pissed when I laughed but I bought it from her.

Greg Bissonette (drums) joined stellar musicians Billy Sheehan (bass) who was genius on the instrument... and the iconic Steve Vai (guitar)... The band released the full album "Eat 'em and smile" in 1986 and it went platinum - he made the Van Halen album that he wanted to make after '1984'... (Van Halen retorted by naming their 1988 album 'OU812' as in "Oh, you ate one too?") David Lee Roth toured successfully into 1987. However, Roth made a more commercial 2nd solo album 'Skyscraper' in 1988... Billy Sheehan was not happy w/ the record and left the band... Steve Vai did the tour before leaving (Vai did the 1989 album 'Slip of the tongue' by Whitesnake followed by his instrumental solo album 'Passion & warfare' in 1990) David Lee Roth hired guitar genius Jason Becker to record his 3rd album "A little ain't enough" in 1991... but Jason Becker was diagnosed w/ Lou Gehrig's disease and unable to perform... 4th solo album 'Your filthy little mouth' in 1994 was a musical misstep and failed commercially... By 1995, David Lee Roth was doing shows in Las Vegas casinos to keep entertaining... He did better recording a 1998 album as 'DLR Band' w/ guitarist John 5, who went on to work w/ Marilyn Manson, Rob Zombie, Motley Crue, etc. Check out more David Lee Roth solo songs - "Goin' crazy" ... STEVE VAI WAS SUCH A TALENTED YOUNG GUITAR PLAYER THAT HE ACTUALLY PLAYED WITH FRANK ZAPPA WHEN HE WAS 18!! NOW YOU GUYS HAVE NOT REACTED TO ANY FRANK ZAPPA AT ALL AND MAYBE HAVE NOT HEARD OF HIM BUT FRANK ZAPPA WAS ONE OF THE GREATEST GUITARIST AND MUSICIANS OF THE 60S 70S AND 80S!! SOME EXPERTS HAVE CALLED FRANK ZAPPA A GUITAR GENIUS!! THERE'S A GREAT INTERVIEW OF STEVE VAI TALKING ABOUT WHEN HE AUDITIONED TO PLAY IN FRANK ZAPPA'S BAND!!
