The Harry Potter films are great, one of my favorite film franchises based on a book series.

I like how you immediately get invested and pay attention to the movie :) Sometimes reaction channels make too many jokes/ talk over the movie too much, missing key points of the plot.

I hope you'll like this fairytale! It's a bit unique, because the main characters actually grow up before our eyes. Each book is a schoolyear, and we come along before the new schooyear begins. The storytelling changes with their age. In the books the language also changes from pretty simple to more advanced. (My eldest son read the first book as homework in his english class. I had read them all as bedside read. He thought he could manage the last book since he had read the first, but when I checked him, he had not understood almost a single word from the first page. 😛)

Since "Alien", John Hurt has done a ton of films, including "Brazil", "V for Vendetta", "Hellboy", and "Contact". Hurt also reprised his chest-bursting "Alien" scene as a cameo in Mel Brooks's "Spaceballs". And Hurt also became a part of Dr Who canon by playing the War Doctor, responsible for the demise of his home planet Gallifrey and all the other Time Lords. _______________________________ So, Hogwarts is a boarding school financially supported by the Ministry of Magic. Students attend free of charge, except for personal expenses like robes, a cloak, a wand, a cauldron, some basic textbooks, and some incidental school supplies. The Ministry of Magic is one of several quasi-governmental organizations that have sprung up over the past thousands of years in order to keep the Wizarding World safe from muggles. Muggles have been engaged in persecution, prosecution, arrest, imprisonment, torture, extortion, and execution for uncounted centuries. They have practiced terrorization and genocide all that time, targeting individuals, families, villages, and communities. Even criminals or the ambitious have forced wizards and witches to use magic to benefit their extorters. Muggles are a paranoid race; Wizards and witches are not safe if their abilities become known to muggles, so they segregate themselves, use charms and spells to interfere with muggles' perception of magic, and live under institutions like the Ministry of Magic, which manages the cloaking of magic from the muggle world. One way the Ministry protects the Wizarding World is to provide a place to educate, train, and socialize magic-able children in the safe performance of magic. It's a common benefit to do this, so the Ministry finances it. Another way is to address any leak of information or reveal of the existence of the Wizarding World, to head off spread of awareness. A third way is to require the registration of any individual with extraordinary circumstances (again, more on this later, as it becomes relevant and is adjacent to the plot). _______________________________ It's not Harry's parents who made Harry famous, it's Harry being the only one in history to survive the Killing Curse, especially one cast by such a powerful wizard as Voldemort. The simple explanation is that when Voldemort came to kill Harry, his mother had invested love and protection into Harry and then sealed it with her selfless sacrifice of her own life. (There's more to it than that, but to go into detail now will spoil the franchise for you, so be patient.) What's important to understand for now is that, for the remainder of his childhood, Harry has to live at least a portion of each year with a blood relative of his mother in order to maintain the protection. And Petunia Dursley is his mother's sister, the only living maternal blood relative. (Note: Legal adulthood is attained in the Wizarding World at age 17 years.) _______________________________ The Dursleys don't 'hate' Harry; they only resent being saddled with his care and expense. It's not quite the same thing. They weren't expecting to have Harry dumped on their doorstep, so they avoid investing in him emotionally as well as spend as little as they can on him; this is why his glasses need repairing or replacing and why Harry dresses in his cousin Dudley's old castoff clothes that so ill-fit Harry. What the Dursleys DO hate is the embarrassing weirdness of the Wizarding World, which goes against their middleclass conformist sensibilities. Vernon Dursley has said he intends "to put a stop to all this 'magic' nonsense." They hate the weirdness, not Harry, which is why they obstruct Harry when it's time to return to Hogwarts. _______________________________ A number of viewers are aghast at how physically dangerous it is for children at Hogwarts, but they fail to understand the enhanced biology of wizard/witch bodies once they begin to use their magical abilities. What sets the difference between muggles and wizards/witches is the inherited ability to perceive and channel the vital energy commonly referred to as 'magic'. There is such power in that energy that physical benefits are produced in those with that channeling ability: -Resilience: Wizard/witch bodies can handle physical trauma with less damage resulting. Bones and organs require greater force to effect injury, and healing is quicker with no scarring left to mark the injury. Longbottom's broken wrist will mend in a short time and be good as new. So, injuries at Hogwarts are no big deal, just a temporary nuisance. Also, physical strength and reflexes are enhanced. -Resistance: There are far fewer pathogens that can infect a wizard/witch, so no colds or flu, just amazingly good health. That said, there are a few wizard/witch specific germs that can prove problematic or even fatal. Research continues in the Wizarding World to develop charms and potions to fight these pathogens. -Longevity: Muggles have an average lifespan of about 75 years; the average lifespan of a wizard/witch is twice that, about 150 years. -Magic-Based Injuries: Ordinary physical trauma is largely blunted by the channeling of magic energy, but injuries CAUSED by magic is permanent and can be brutal or fatal. There is no easy healing from it and can result in scarring or body part loss. (Note Harry's forehead scar; he may have survived a Death Curse, but he still bears a scar from the event. Anytime you see a character with scars or physical damage, it is the result of magic-caused injury.) -Cultural Attitudes About Risk: Because the ramifications of risky actions are minimized, there is cultural cachet in engaging in risky behavior and/or dangerous activities and vocations. Likely the need to be extremely aware, on your toes, and in possessions of a great many details also adds to a desire to put one's wits to the test, to prove oneself. Magic is unpredictable; it requires you maintain awareness. _______________________________ The Sorting Hat uses the student's own core values as the criteria for which House the student is to be sorted into. Basically, the Sorting Hat is finding core values matches between the House and the student. It's not the talents, interests, or habits that determine placement, but the VALUES. For instance, given Hermione's bookishness and high intellect, you would assume she would naturally be sorted into the intellectual House of Ravenclaw, but as Hermione says to Harry after the giant Wizard's Chess game, "Books? And cleverness! There are more important things-friendship and bravery." Friendship and bravery are core Gryffindor values. _______________________________ Children capable of channeling magic will give indication of this ability any time by the age of ten, when strong emotions (usually fear or anger) cause a spontaneous expression of the ability. A magical mechanism within a room in the Hogwarts castle senses the manifestation of magic, who has expressed it, and where they reside, and documents this data for when to send out the child's letter of acceptance. The same mechanism also sends word to the Ministry of Magic, so they can place 'the Trace' on them, a charm that monitors magic used by or in the presence of that child. The Trace will remain in effect until the child reaches the age of 17, which in the Wizarding World is the age of legal adulthood. Students begin their education at Hogwarts in early September. All students enter the first day of school each year the same age, even if they have a birthday the second day of school that changes their age. So, First Years enter at age 11, Second Years at age 12, Third Years at age 13 and so forth. (In both books and films the first book/film they start Hogwarts as First Years 11 years old, though Hermione turns 12 in late September and Ron turns 12 the following March. Harry, the youngest, turns 12 when school is out for the summer.) The final year of school is as Seventh Year students. Since they enter the school year already 17 years old, the senior class enters Hogwarts already adults, Trace-free, and able to choose not to complete their education. However, it's rare for a student NOT to finish school; it's more likely that students eager to begin their professional lives will be taking classes and working a job at the same time. _______________________________ Cerberus, pronounced 'SIRR-birr-uss', not 'kirr-BAY-uss'. Actually, 'Cerberus' is the personal name of the dog that guards Hades; it's not a species designation like 'unicorn' or 'centaur'. Try googling 'how to pronounce cerberus' to hear it spoken. You made a good attempt, but it's difficult to pronounce without looking it up. Hermione is pronounced 'hirr-MY-oh-nee'.

Welcome to the Wizarding World! I can't wait to watch the rest with you! You're one of the very few reactors that dont consider Harry a "nepo-baby" and understood Harry fkn saved Hogwarts. Thank you for that! I read the books in my late 20s... my mother suggested it ... she loved the books! I suggest if you really like the movies, read the books. Theres Lore, characters that weren't in the movies as well as a tremendous character and World building. Looking foreword to the next one... ✌🏻 from a GenXer!

Can't wait to see your full reaction to the series, but got to mention that you need to bring up the visual of the video more and not make it so opaque. The series just gets darker and darker as it progresses to match the theme changes so if you keep it as is us, the viewers, won't get a good view. I know some other youtubers put an opaque title of the movies over the video if you are worried about youtube's copyright policies.

If you watch my full-length version on Patreon, I don't put opacity on my videos.

This was great. And I am still baffled that Americans renamed and redubbed it to Sorcerer's Stone, as a European I always notice the differences between these movie/book names as I grew up knowing it as Philosopher's Stone here.

Quidditch penalties: nearly everything Slytherin pulled in this match got them penalties (i.e. similar to a free throw to Gryffindor for each one) in the book. Harry's touch also didn't crumble Quirrell into dust in the book either. Harry's touch burned and blistered Quirrell's skin and both were in severe pain (Harry's scar was blinding him). Harry hung on to Quirrell to keep him in pain and unable to do anything until Dumbledore arrived. Quirrell died when Voldemort left his body that had been severely weakened by possession. Hagrid is that fun but crazy uncle that your parents would prefer you not to hang out with even though they know he'll keep you safe. 😂😂

Loosen up during your intro mate... it's not something worth worrying about or stressing yourself over. No need for a script, you know the information you need to share and will strike more people when you just try to do so naturally. The first two minutes of the actual reaction is glaringly different from the intro. You're likable when you aren't scripted.
