Just gonna quote Holger Rune in this case: "Do you get punished when you make a mistake? Because when we make a mistake we get a fine"

It was a horrible call. However, I'm seeing a lot of people on Twitter calling it a double bounce, which it technically isn't. It's the ball bouncing on Bia's half of the court after coming off the edge of her racquet making it, what we call in cricket, a bump ball, quite similar to what happened with Draper incident last week
@thepuristsnightmare3 ай бұрын
Yeah, you are right, it's not a double bounce, as I said in the video it's just an illegal shot, still baffling that the umpire can't see it even with the VAR

@@thepuristsnightmare I didn't watch the game live but apparently it took them 5 minutes to review and make the call. At this point, I think that is equally embarrassing, if not more so than the awful call. Someone needs to tell these umpires that it's okay to correct your decision. Or leave it to Hawkeye, I legit feel they can make these decisions as well, given their super-high frame rate of ball tracking
@thepuristsnightmare3 ай бұрын
I watched it live, and yeah, as I said in the video it did legit take 5 minutes to make the wrong decision, that's why I made this video😁

Need to look at the original footage because i haven't watched the match and your still shots here are inconclusive. I guess the ruling is like in baseball VAR - there has to be absolutely conclusive evidence to overturn a call. If only the slightest doubt remains, the original call stands. The other thing is - and here tennis differs from baseball VAR - i think the external people in the video review center can't actually make a decision, they just forward the material to the umpire - who may be biased obviously.

Inconclusive?

I don't think it's the VAR team's fault it's the umpire that didn't use her brain
@thepuristsnightmare3 ай бұрын
VAR team is literally there to advice her to make the correct decision EDIT: My bad, apparently, the VAR team only provides the video, they don't help the ump make the decision, which is still dumb, but I was wrong about this particular part
@al1976-v7m3 ай бұрын
@@thepuristsnightmare exactly, that is the problem. they want the umpires to keep the ultimate decision making power, but they should actually have a conversation.

I mean wasn't the Jack Draper point a match point? Kalinskaya should get more mentally tough. She pretty much gave up on the match after this bad call. I'm a hockey fan and I remember in 2019 the San Jose Sharks winning a playoff game on a bad hand pass in Game 3 of the Western Conference Finals. The refs completely screwed the St Louis Blues out of this game. You know what the St Louis Blues did? They went into Game 4 and destroyed the Sharks. They then went into Game 5 and destroyed the Sharks. Then in Game 6 they destroyed the Sharks and won the series. Lastly, they went to the Stanley Cup Finals and won the Stanley Cup against the heavy favorites, The Boston Bruins, in a brutal 7 game series. These St Louis Blues were in last place in the entire league in January and by the middle of June they were Stanley Cup Champions.

This "be more mentally tough" rhetoric is so tired at this point, obviously in an ideal world a player should forget such a blatant mistake, but in reality the only person who should be blamed here is the ump P.S. that Blues Stanley Cup run was insane tho😁
@soysaucehairdye78693 ай бұрын
@@thepuristsnightmare I'm a Sharks fan so I hated it and hated their trap defense. The LA Kings run in 2014 was even more insane. They reverse swept my Sharks and had to win 3 Game 7s just to reach the Finals.

This is probably the worst decision ever because the umpire had the chance to watch the replay and still made the wrong call, I even wonder if it was a mistake… how can every person that saw the video know it was an illegal shot except the umpire ?

They didn’t have that back angle with the umprire so low-key not the umpires faults, they should have more angles for stuff like this

What is sad to note is how players like Draper and Haddad are willing to accept the point when they know the point wasn’t theirs. Their professional and personal integrity is highly questionable.

Nothing questionable about them, it's not their job to make calls on the court

Disagree. Fair play and honesty is what is now missing in professional tennis. Golf still has that. We have lost it in tennis.

They cheated her out of this match. She protested fairly and the pro Brazilian crowd then proceeded to ensure that she lost by booing her double faults the rest of the match … I hope the Brazilian whatever her name is loses her next match.
