This song and Mother Love were finished after Freddie's death and Brian refused to let anyone else touch them, he said he knew what Freddie wanted and how they should be and that is how Brian intended to present them. It took quite some time until Brian had healed enough to go in and get these two finished but he finally did get it done. Merry Christmas to you and those you love and thank you for this fantastic reaction to such a beautiful song. Freddie wrote this about the place he loved staying in Montreux, on Lake Geneva.

Freddie loved Christmas. Here's a little true Christmas story, from the Queen Roadie named Crystal. He was at Freddie's house and Freddie told him he saw this shirt that was perfect for Crystal's Christmas present. Crystal said Freddie couldn't contain himself, Freddie said, oh I know it's a little early but you must have it now, Freddie ran upstairs and gave Crystal his Christmas present. Crystal said it was the first time he got a Christmas present in May🤣

What a beautiful song this is. Like a landscape painting in the sky. Thank you Freddie Mercury for this song. Just a couple months before he passed away. This makes me weep. Thank you David. Perfect choice. I've been waiting for your Christmas Eve special and you didn't disappoint. Very emotional song especially in the circumstances. Freddie wrote the lyrics in Montreux while looking out over the lake from his apartment. So ill yet still seeing such beauty in his surroundings. What an extraordinary human being he was. This was his last time in Montreux, seeing his beloved swans. Makes you cry just thinking about it. Agree with you on the youthful tone of his voice at this time.....it started with the Miracle album I think and continued to the end. Bless you for doing this. Happy Christmas David. 💕💕💕

Thank you! Great reaction as always! This is such a beautiful song. But it's also tinged with a bit of sadness. The fact that Freddie could find beauty in the little things and in nature at this point in his life, so near the end is really a lesson for us all, isn't it!

So happy to see you David👍💕 Thank you for playing this song. So many feelings when I listen to A Winter’s Tale… naturally you caught it when Freddie sings ‘ sends me reeling’ … that slight wistful change in his tone… only a tiny second… always makes me tear up. This song is sad but not… joyful … but not. Can’t figure it out but my feelings are all over the place. That moment when he drags out ‘ it’s all so beautiful’ kills me 😢 every time. Loved it when you said it was Sprinkled with a little chaos 😄 such a perfect description of that potent moment !! Thank you for the most perfect reaction to one of my favorite songs ever ♥️ Merry Christmas !!!

Hello David, so good to see you. This one is one of the most amazing Freddie's songs. He was so ill but still could see the beauty in the small things and give hope to us all. It's like he knew we would need every drop of his hope, his immense love for life. I love listen to this song and every time tears fall down. Happiness and sadness all mixed. Only Freddie could and can do this. I wish you a very special Christmas, filled with Freddie's love. Much love from me and Portugal

Thanks David. You look good. Hope you’re feeling well. It’s amazing he could still see the peaceful beauty around his place by the lake. The last few days before he decided to stop his meds. He used to hate their studio in Montreux because there was no night life. He began to love it because people didn’t bother him. They were used to seeing celebrities. He needed the time to just be.

Freddie wrote this about his view from a lake house he was staying at in Montreux, where he spent a lot of time receiving treatment as well as just staying away from paparazzi (which is why that's where his statue was located). He wrote it not long before he passed away, and the song wasn't released until four years after his death on their album Made in Heaven, as it wasn't finished prior to Freddie's death. Brian said he felt a lot of emotions while adding instrumentals to the song - he said it left an impression on him that Freddie was just purely observing nature and not wallowing in sadness or despair about knowing he didn't have much time left to live. He enjoyed life until the end. Merry Christmas! (**Quick edit: The handwriting in this video is Freddie's own, taken from his notes as he wrote the song).

This was the last song Freddie ever wrote, sitting by the window by Geneva Lake marveling at the beauty outside. Brian's guitar solo in this song always felt like Brian and the Red Special crying for Freddie. I can feel their mourning in that solo. I think that was what you were feeling that too. I believe the guitar piece is played on the Deacy Amp that John made while dumpster diving back in the 70's. Brian still has it and treats it like the treasure is truly is after all these years.

Not necessarily a Christmas song but something that Freddie wrote and recorded in the last few months of his life, it's taken from everything he saw from his flat in Montreux, it was actually recorded just months before, and he did it in one take as per normal, and that's all his handwritten lyrics on the screen, I think the remaining members of Queen put the video together, that's not a note it's Brian bringing in the Red Special

Glad to see ya! Love the reaction BUT I have to strongly disagree on one point. I've listened to Freddie since 1973 when he was young loooong before his bravado in his songs. What you are hearing here is a very ferocious voice that is now thin and weaker than ever before BUT because it's Freddie still blows every other singer away. LONG LIVE FREDDIE MERCURY!!! Much love to all out there.

This is the last song Freddie wrote (one of the three last Freddie songs) "These Are The Days Of Our Lives" (last performed in front of a camera) and "Mother Love" (last recorded, final verse sung by Brian May) are the other two. The other obvious choice for a Queen Christmas song is the only intentional Christmas song they ever made "Thank God It's Christmas" (a failure in the charts because it was released the same year as Band-Aid's charity song "Do They Know It's Christmas"). For the lovers of Queen trivia there is the option to go with the only song to ever be the Christmas No.1 more than once in any of the worlds music charts "Bohemian Rhapsody" (UK Christmas No.1 in 1975 and 1991).

Yes very important line that is sometimes overlooked in the beauty of the song. Yet, “…it’s bliss.” As far as his vocals evolving. I think in the mid 80s Freddie’s voice was not at its best. He had a number of things that can lead to hurt & strained vocal cords. Harsh schedules, large stadiums, smoking & partying were not good for the voice. When he stopped partying, touring, etc, his voice rested and yes improved. The last 3-4 yrs provided many standout vocals from Freddie. Barcelona was during this period as well. Great reaction as always. Merry Christmas everyone! 🥂

I never thought about it much when listening to this, but Brian once described the three voices - his, Freddie’s, and Rogers - as melding perfectly together and how they complimented each other, and the richness of Freddie’s voice is definitely missed in the background vocals of this one - but still a lovely song. And yes, I personally think Freddie’s voice changed after he quit smoking. Happy Christmas

Can you imagine him on the porch or dock knowing he was in his last phases of life singing this after writing it down. 💔💔💔💔
