The reason you can "only drive an F1 car fast" is because the brakes and tyres are only designed to work at certail temperatures. If you go too slowly, the brakes and tyres will cool down way too much, meaning you will have very little grip, and very little braking power
@KHeidendal2 жыл бұрын
Also downforce. How faster the more downforce the more grip in a corner. Thats why they got drs. less downforce on main straight is more speed
@LambdaHDvideo2 жыл бұрын
@@KHeidendal i wouldnt say that. Even without the downforce you have a lot of mechanical grip. So while the car wouldnt be at its best, it would still not have problems staying on track But when it comes to the brakes and tyres, those genuinely become unusable at low temps
@KHeidendal2 жыл бұрын
@@LambdaHDvideo thats true. I do gokarting with rotax max. More speed is more grip. The kart works only when you drive the hell out of it

4G and 5G mean 5 times the amount of gravity, so your arms head neck feels 5 times heavier than usual and that happens through almost every corner. They are for sure athletes What he s saying is, after 3 laps MOST people will not be able to keep their neck straight and steer properly because their muscles will be too tired
@Boskky_2 жыл бұрын
You guys should watch a training session (out of the car, the gym or a day in a life, especially the neck workouts) of a couple f1 drivers, you will be amazed. From Barcelona and F1 fan since 2004 I applaud you guys for the f1 videos, keep going 💪🏻.
@caseymiller35402 жыл бұрын
The human head weighs around 8 lbs - 10 lbs, a driver’s helmet weighs 2 lbs - 3 lbs, so total weight is 10 lbs - 13 lbs. At 5G forces in cornering that means there’s 50 lbs - 65 lbs pulling their head to the side. F1 driver’s do weight training for their neck and most have really thick necks because of this. They have to be able to deal with those forces for an entire race, if you watch two seater F1 ride alongs the passengers head is going all over the place simply because they aren’t strong enough to hold their head straight.

Also F1 brakes are so strong that a normal person could never push them in sitting still. They actually use inertia and gravity of the car slowing down so fast to help them push the brake in all the way. it's pretty cool
@fbpo16992 жыл бұрын
1:25 Sam mentioned in the video how he was pushed out of the pits, the reason is that no normal human would be able to operate a F1 clutch without a lot of practice. To put it into perspective, the step from driving a normal stick shift to a F1 car, for someone who drove a stick all his life, would be much larger than from never having driven a car to a stick shift. Also as a FYI, the clutches (yes, plural) in F1 cars are hand-clutches on the back of the steering wheel. No normal human would be able to experience what Sam experienced without help, because they could not get the car rolling, thats how insane F1 cars are.
@ScrausScrauas Жыл бұрын
Part of the thing w F1 brakes is that since it takes so much force to push the pedal is that you gotta go really fast cuz you stomping on the pedal will just make the brakes work enough to basically throw your body forward and so the car is using the weight of your body slamming forward into the brake pedal to compress the pedal more that you need

Thanks guys again! Great video, not only funny guy but he knew some stuff people usually do not, like that the drivers really are true athletes. Can you imagine to "sit" in a car like that? You can barely see over the front wheels and the "mirrors" are not exactly helping much. It is mostly the aerodynamics, tyres, breaks and engine revs why you need to drive fast. The F1-cars are not only type of "racing" cars requiring high speed in order to function properly. Regards from Finland!

There are a lot of things on a steering wheel. Tracksion controll, brake migration (wich side to brake more) , braking balance (force of braking), front and rear adjuster, radio, drs (opens rear wing for higher straight speedand lower drag) , ers (electric motor boost), pit button (to maintain pit speed limit), Start map button (for race start settings)

There’s a video by Mercedes AMG F1 team that explains how an F1 steering wheel works if you wanna know what all of them buttons and switches do. (Each car has its own unique design but by majority they all have the same level of control, just with different layouts and styles.)

And to think he knew what was expecting him ,pick an ordinary person who knows next to nothing then its even more socking. Also yes the car needs to be pushed so theres heat in the tires & breaks(no heat = no grip on the circuit and you will slide like crazy + no breaks and thus you cant stop)but also pressure for the hydrolics that run the car (breaks,pedals,steering and others) and thats the driver selecting mods & setings on the steering wheel depending on what he needs.

You have to drive it fast enough so that aerodynamics kicks in and you need also to have the tyres hot enough to have grip and you also have to brake really late and hard or it wouldn't stop Those cars are so accurate in their aerodynamics and drivers are going so much to the physical limits of the car that on some turns if the wind is comming for the back of the car, you loose downforce are you are not able to turn...

If the car doesn't rev high enough and the oil cools, the engine cools and due to the tolerances of the piston inside the cylinder bore... the engine locks up! When the engine locks up than you just broke a very expensive engine. Although I am sure they might have safety features implemented for those type of driving experience events.

And the breaks are so stiff because the g-force pushes you forward anyway in the breaking zone, if your a f1 driver! And have a look at there necks, they are as wide as there head (most), because the g-force in the corners. If your head is 3 to 4 times heavier in the corners. And you see in the last laps most drivers lean the head at the cushion. Your entertaining to watch, interesting too and put some work in it, thank you and stay safe.

F1 cars are best compared to inverted airplanes , you just try to keep it on the ground and controll the force of the wind that pushes you down to ground . When you go on straight you don't need so much downforce becose it would slow you down. but you need it as much as possible in turns , and for wind to give you some downforce you need to go at least 120 miles per hour like he said ... so basicly some turns require from you to go faster becose if you would slow down you loose the grip and you go off the racetrack. Just imagine that some turns are possible at 120 miles per hour but not at 90 miles per hour and then again possible at 50mph

F1 cars will pull 2G's on acceleration, 5G's on braking, and up to 6G's on cornering. I would need a shit-ton of training just to withstand on lap of training, much less do it for a full race and then multiple races over a course of a season.

If you want to see What happens to a normal person who tries to drive an F1 car , check this video from the show TOP GEAR : kzbin.info/www/bejne/e3i4i32MjpKmftE F1 drivers/pilots constantly have to deal with 4 - 6.5 G force especilly need to have Monstrous NECK STRENGTH to hold their heads the right way , mentally quick, make Microseconds decicions, fight racing etc & strength in general all while being LEAN and close to their Body weight limit. They have to have incredible cardio because the heart rate gets very high. It gets so hot in the car that they lose 8-11 lbs during the race. List goes on ...
