This is the model I've been waiting for. I will keep my polished stainless version, but this is amazing. The bronze will look wonderful as it ages with the champagne dial, and any number of straps it will wear. Lovely.

I think the bronze version fixes the aesthetic issue I have with the sapphire crystal equipped ones in that they always have that "rim" around the dial that holds the crystal in place, compared to the acrylic crystal one that has the fully domed bubble that arches over the entire dial. The steel "rim" always made the watch look kind of odd, at least to my eyes, but the bronze version actually looks really good with that rim!

@@richardb22 Yes, the acrylic crystal trumps the sapphire aesthetically, at least for the steel version of the watch. The sapphire crystal version has a metal bezel in order to hold the sapphire crystal, which makes the watch look clumsy, imo. The acrylic crystal has no bezel and instead has a gorgeous domed acrylic crystal that stretches across the entire dial of the watch. Also, the sapphire versions have no AR coating so if you go outside there's sooooo much reflection going on. Meanwhile, the acrylic version doesn't need AR coating and looks gorgeous under direct sun, it has a "warmth" to it. Of course it scratches easily, but this isn't a daily watch anyways!

The strap is perfect. The red line lining up with the chronograph seconds hand, yeah, that's easy. But I'll bet the green part will match up brilliantly when the bronze starts to patina. You need to keep us updated on the patina front!

I think this watch will give me a chance to fix my other 1963 purchase. I bought a 42mm sapphire from long island watches. I love how the thing looks in hand, it's beautiful. It looks huge on wrist though. I never considered it basically has no bezel and a light colored dial. Both make it look massive. I have a bronze Stowa but, it doesn't patina; they age it and then lock it in with some coating. This will give me a bronze watch to patina and a 1963 that will get more wrist time. Maybe I'll gift my brother the other one after I take it off the $70 leather strap xD

Love the 1963. I've had mine for about 12 years. The issue is that mine desperately needs a service which would cost as much as buying a new one. Binning it and buying another just doesn't sit well with me.

Beautiful pieace, but I agree : domed acrylic crystal would have been much better. The regular 1963 look better in acrylic too in my opinion. The sapphire versions get a sort of metal bezel, instead of crystal, and it drastically changes the look. I'm sure other manufacturers will release an unofficial non limited version of this unofficially officially unofficial version of the official anniversary edition of the watch. Heck, maybe Seagull themselves will do something officially official.

Been wanting a 1963 and this one hits the sweet spot with that beautiful case, so I went ahead and ordered one. Moans and niggles: it seems to actually be a 1 year warranty, with an extra year costing a bit more to purchase. And while there was an option for selecting free shipping, it was a non-functional UI element, forcing me to pay for the express shipping to the US, which is contrary to this review and their own FAQ. So shipping wasn’t free, and neither was a 2 year warranty. Still ordered it though :)

It's not an original 1963 Seagull. I've spent a lot of time in China and made the effort to search for the original, and this is nothing like the original Seagull. Red Star shop/store, that you are advertising is just another copier machine out there. But you've already said it yourself. Point being, it's like San Martin celebrating Tudor's anniversary. 😅😅😅🎉🎉 Happy anniversary!

Lovely looking and on paper and at first glance a must buy if you like the watch BUT . The movement is just too inconsistent for $400 usd bronze and extra text on the dial aside. I have 4 1901s and 2 of them are quite frankly rubbish. It might work in a affordable collection but I doubt it would still be there years down the track performing reliably. Get the stainless at $150usd!

@Jody has the bronze case been available for a while? I was at a party earlier in the year and one of the other guests had a bronze cased 1963 (I have a steel). He never mentioned it was a special/limited edition and I had a good look at it. It was on a leather strap, which may or may not have been original strap. My 1963 no longer zeros when you press the reset button, but still useable. I have another watch with same movement and feel a 3rd coming soon.

This release is ruined by the sapphire crystal. Not only does it have way more glare than the acrylic, but it doesn’t have that boxed domed look that calls back to the original. Also, to accommodate the sapphire, they added a chunky bezel that makes the watch look much thicker, with a disproportionate bezel to mid case ratio, while making the dial opening appear smaller. If you don’t know what I’m talking about, go check out the acrylic version. Finally, this piece has 30m WR and a finicky movement, so it’s not a daily driver. Therefore, the utility of sapphire is completely lost here. Hopefully they release an appropriate acrylic version, but that’s doubtful.

It’s the same movement as in the regular ones. I wear mine on a daily basis, although mine is a chronograph from Alpha Watches, and I’ve had no issues so far. Had the watch for just over two years now.

Interesting . But get the callipers out Jody. The website says 1300 not 13.90 . Contrast with the non bronze that's 12.70. Only in watches does 0.9 mm matter . Is the bronze significantly thicker than the non bronze in your experience ? Best Richard

You should warn your viewers. I was on the fence about this watch and after seeing this video, I ordered one. I never received it or notification of the shipping status so I inquired on the status via email and was provided with the weirdest response, very aloof, my interpretation was that I was shit out of luck for not checking VAT/customs requirements. During the checkout process, there was no warning or indication about additional steps to take. You should warn your viewers. Thanks!
