Can't even tell you how excited I was when Fatshark announced that Zealots and Veterans could wield the dueling sword. Used the mk IV once when leveling the psker and wondered why I saw psykers using any other melee weapon. Had to stop using it because all I could think about was how much better it would be with a Zealot main. It's amazing on veteran with a weapon swap build, too

Personally: I use Carapace and unyielding. Was trying out unyielding. But in the end: You dont need flak damage, you already go though it like butter to the point the extra damage just isnt worth. Same with maniacs. I found it was 100% not needed on them. I'd just one shot them anyways without it. The only "struggle" was carapace and unyielding enemies. Allows me to one-two shot through carapace very reliably. Also helps with bosses. Thats my stance on this

i would say it depends , im using it with a bolt pistol wich deletes carapace and unyielding enemies so i use the maniac and flak on my dueling sword , that way if im out of ammo and im surrounded by ragers im not fked

i highly recommend swapping thrust for Agile, you can just infinitely dodge and slash man-sized targets, and they'll die to crits as shred builds up. only really need to stab oggys and maulers. wearing a pirate hat and playing sea shanties gives you extra swashbuckling power against all targets too

I find Riposte more reliable for crits than Shred due to chained hit mechanism (missed hits). Uncanny Strike could replace Thrust.

Chaining special attacks after heavy 1s is one is such a fun easy combo, it's definitely one of the best feeling weapons

Dueling sword is good against every single enemy but a little slow on horde clearing, unless you can crit consistently. For that I use Riposte + Agile. Agile basically gives you unlimited dodges which I want on every melee weapon. Precog is also a nice blessing on dmg boost. Shred is good but it drops as soon as you miss, personal preference I guess.

Personally I prefer running uncanny in place of thrust and riposte instead of shred. Reasons being that uncanny essentially lets you delete maulers, crushers and bruisers from existence and riposte since I find it to be more of a reliable proc compared to shred. Uncanny especially being a blessing on thrusting swords is what makes it so unbelievably strong. The ability to rapidly annihilate maulers and crusher in high intensity mixed horde situations is borderline broken, not to mention the utterly ridiculous weakspot damage on crit heavies. I wouldn't be shocked at all if they nerf it

Shred is for amplifying our damage, crits with this weapon do 5x damage, it allows you to use lights to clear trash rather than just tickling them. Also guarantees we are critting to keep our cooldown reduction going

​@@MisterEtidecrit on dodge is more comfy to use than shred and serves the same purpose and uncanny is way better than thrust, dueling sword heavies are very fast and holding them for thrice as long with thrust doesnt make sense when you are killing everything with max 2 headshots. Uncanny kills hordes of maulers and crushers easly.

Riposte + Precog mathematically gives better DPS. Though Riposte + Thrust is also very good. But you dont have to charge for Precog so you will do more damage and be faster and safer with heavy stabs. With dodges you pretty much have Riposte up always to trigger Precog on stabs.

Precog and shred then maybe. Shred is a top tier choice on this weapon as its crits are like 5x damage

@@MisterEtide Shreds adds up to 20% crit chance after repeated hits. Riposte gives you 20% crit chance on single sucesfull dodge. if you are fighting for example mixed horde on Auric with couple Crushers and Maulers you can literally just back pedal dodge while stabbing with heavy stab and constantly have 20% extra crit chance. Shred is good on weapons you want to hit a lot in short time but on Dueling Sword heavy stabs are basically your bread n butter in mixed horde to kill elites. Same a single dodge on boss will already give you 20% crit chance. While you can keep chaining heavy stabs for max DPS. Not only that but Riposte is 6 second duration. So even if you are just fighting trash horde, you will have it up pretty much 100% time as you do succesfull dodge more than once per 6 seconds. Riposte + Precog gives you way higher crit damage from stabs than Thurst (becasue Dueling Sword has insane high finesse so precog boosts it higher than Strength) and 20% crit chance that has longer uptime and easier trigger. Give it a go, you will see its better than Shred. I started with Shred too.

@@honestbenny what's your maths on this, if the crit hits for 5x increasing your chance to crit by 20% is effectively a damage increase of 20% of the crit value, 20% of 500% is a 100% dps increase on average, precog caps out at 60% on a build that comparably has less crit chance and only applies on crit so it's not 60% dps increase

maniflak is a good suggestion - but I will always advocate for BCR being the first choice 100% of the time unless you're hitting certain breakpoints (or you have the psyker's ability or saltzpyre's passive ability to have 100% stamina reduction from front light attacks (and the fact that VT2 rapier with parry would be borderline broken if the billhook's utility didn't exist)) Definitely a bit of VT2 bias, but you're still put into situations where you want to block occasionally in DT

I never end up blocking, better to push stab or dodge, i think i inherited the playstyle from rapier and billhook in v2, stay mobile enough that enemies can never land a hit where you are

@@MisterEtide yeee dt really lets you dodge dance like a loon even before the silly dodge count trait came out :pppp I think some a lot more the level design must be more open to allow for gunfights or something because situations where you become cornered because you made a little mistake in your positioning seem to happen way less and when they do seem a lot easier to slip out of vs having to fight through it

Happened to play this weapon yesterday for the first time. As someone with 500+ hours on Vermintide 2 with my main being Saltzpyre + Rapier... I was quite familiar with the playstyle. Like Cataclysm and Legend on Vermintide 2, Damnation is barely a challenge anymore and that after only reaching level 30 yesterday. In any case looking forward a lot to your weapon tier list as I am getting into this game now :D In fact, what is your favorite melee weapon? Not necessarily the best, just your favorite.

how well does this perform if say, you have only really done malice as your highest difficulty. I have been wanting to try the dueling sword but other video's make it out to be a high skill ceiling weapon and you just dodge to maintain stuff it seems a bit ridiculous to need to dodge so much unless completely necessary for survival.

Your grenade choice seems off. They just rot in your pack. Seems like the holy fire grenades would be way better. Also I don’t understand why drop cleave dmg and prioritize mobility instead. You’ve done about 100000x more cleaving than running from enemies really

Holy fire grenades have bad talents in order to get them, these are the good ones. Like i said in the video, your choice of cleave or mobility will have about a 2% difference either way, i like being as fast as possible because the game is all about movement

Oh, but single strong attack are very valuable because they expose you to less chance of retribution. And thrust is for preparing attacks, charging to instakill an enemy. Think about charging that attack and killing a crusher in one hit rather than taking the chance you miss or dont finish him and he gets a shot back on you. Its damage is also really really big with this build because we can guarantee a juiced crit from our ult- check what it did to the boss at the end.

The thing is that this game is about killing stuff that is hard to kill or there is a lot of them ... And when I see duelling sword on any class that basically one shot Carapace I know that this game will not be a lot of fun. Im creatong builds around challanges that I may face and to have answers on different kind of threat. No there is basically no point to have Krak Granades because Crusher will be kileld by random build psyker before my granade will even explode 😁

Dude your talking garbage, it's a crit, build blazing is mandatory for all crit builds. Every zealot build post update is using this pretty much besides the thunderhammer. What do you think he should be running? And what two point dip? Every time he's dipping into another part of the tree it's for a perk that's very strong. Also you could run shroudfield instead but not everyone likes the solo playstyle

I know everyone thinks loner is to run off across the map on your own but really it's so you can dash out and gank threats to the team and get back to support them. Too many knife zealots just don't have the skill for it and get pounced by dogs and trappers repeatedly.
