Nice snag on the sale. Wouldn't mind owning one of those myself, though I would probably go for the wharncliffe. $100 is a bit rich for me for a single edc tool, though. Have fun with it!

I just happened to have my Deka (blue with the wharncliffe blade) in my hand when this video popped up. I heard you saying that you needed a proprietary tool to remove the thumb studs and it got me thinking about the Cedric & Ada video that was done on the Deka and he took the studs off and never mentioned a proprietary tool... so I went to my desk and used a T8 torx bit on both sides, I was able to get them off with a little effort. They used red loctite, so it may be a bit of a bear, but they definitely come off. Figured you may want to know that. From what I have read, Hogue is liberal with the red loctite and, as you mentioned, are weird about people working in their knives. I am not a fan of that, but the thumb studs are removable, at least. Have a great day!

I DID want to know that. Thanks!! Literally everything I saw online said it had to be drilled through.

Oh, one more thing, I picked up a Knafs Lander 2 (it was on sale for about $100), and while it weighs about 1 ounce more than the Bugout, I would put it in the Bugout Killer category as well. Similar size, S35VN instead of S30V, pretty low weight, deep carry clip, small profile (almost the exact same profile as the Hogue Deka in length, width, and height), Axis-style lock, and just seems to fit the same usage (unless the extra ounce is no go for you). I am pretty sure the Bugout was designed with minimalists in mind, but let's be honest, how many people carrying a Bugout are really trying to shave every ounce off their gear? Most Bugouts will only cut cardboard and open a few packages, like pretty much every other folding knife. But this is just my opinion. I really, really like the Lander 2. I didn't think I would and only bought it because it was on sale and I could easily resell it to get my money back if I didn't like it. But I find myself reacing for it more and more every morning. It has grown on me so quickly. It is so awesome when I completely click with a knife. Doesn't happen enough. Anyway, enjoy your day and thanks for all the knife content. Edit: I completely forgot to mention that it comes in blue, just like the O.G. Bugout. Just another similarity to point out. Peace!

@knivesiguess Awesome. I still can't believe how much I like the Lander 2. I got the Deka, and the Lander 2 about a week apart and both have been fightng each other for pocket time. Sometimes I switch them at lunchtime. Two great, lightweight knives that punch far above their weight. I will be getting some new scales for the Deka, probably aluminum, and the Lander has several inexpensive options for scales, too. Ciao!

I’m a major tinkerer and mechanically savvy guy. Guns, knives, cars, motorcycles, all that. But I’ve never EVER wanted or needed to disassemble a pocket knife. Dorks

I've had to disassemble some to work on tuning the lock, customize, fix bad QC (wasn't worth returning, $5 Ozark trail), and general curiosity. I DO want to remove the thumb studs for sharpening, which I may actually be able to do.

I think your categories are a bit optimistic... Then again I normally cap the budget category at less than $15 so adjust accordingly for why... I also think you're missing the unobtainium knives category (things like the multi-thousand dollar semi-custom/customs that Shabazz used to feature semi-regularly). Lubricated and warmed up... Interesting choice of words... Did you use brandy or vodka? :P In all seriousness something like this is so far out of my price range... Its nice to see, but unless I hit the lotto it might as well be unobtainium. Regardless you should have a good week with it.
@knivesiguess17 күн бұрын
The aforementioned lubrication was solely psychological. I think I had a bottle of water with me. The categories REALLY vary from person to person. One man's budget is another man's grail. Unobtanium and grail are quite interchangeable.
@jkirschy16 күн бұрын
@@knivesiguess I think of grail knives as being something that is difficult to obtain (harder than an aspirational knife), but still possible. Say things like your Hogue Deka, a Dragonfly/Delica/Chaparral/etc... in ZDP 189/magnacut/etc..., or a Quiet Carry Waypoint in Vanax. Unobtainium on the other hand... Unless you hit the Megaball or you are one of those lucky sods with more money than sense, unobtanium is out of reach because it just costs too much to justify spending that much. We're talking about things like the Grimso Norseman ($1000+ at this point) or the sorts of things on this Blade HQ page(1). (Damn I feel old... I remember Shabazz talking about how he bought a Norseman when they were only $600...)They're great knives (probably), but normal working stiffs wouldn't ever be able to justify dropping that much on them no matter how nice they may be. That's why I put Grail knife and unobtainium knife in two separate categories. But maybe that's just me or maybe I'm over-thinking things.
