I have health anxiety and youre the first person I've heard talk about the feeling of not breathing before bed, it's so scary and it's a viscous cycle that makes falling asleep so hard when it's happening. Now days I just try tire myself out and go to bed when I'm exhausted. Hope things improve ❤

Sophie you have NO IDEA how much I relate with everything you are struggling with. Lately my body has been feeling just "off" like I know how my body "usually feels" and lately it has JUST NOT BEEN FEELING RIGHT AT ALL. I have been getting so many tests and stuff and nothing comes up and it just makes me spiral even more because in my head is scary to think they are not seeing SOMETHING so what if it gets worst before they find out what is happening to me? I am sending you so much love! Stay away from Google, and try and find different distractions... also I have been telling myself QUITE A LOT "one day at a time". BREATH & let it go... live every day. Love you Sophie

I completely understand what you mean by the shortness of breath, it’s my main symptom of anxiety, and when I notice it it gets worse which makes me more anxious which makes it worse etc, and I also often get this at night before sleeping. The main thing that helps is distracting my mind from my body, either by doing some mindfulness e.g closing my eyes and thinking about what I could see, hear, feel etc ❤

Hey Soph, a few years ago I used to struggle very badly with health anxiety, and a lot of the things you mentioned happened to me. I always thought that I couldn't breathe and as a kid, before I knew it was anxiety, I actually went to the hospital a few times. It turned out that it was always just anxiety. I hope that it turns out to be nothing and you can find ways to manage your anxiety, because there is nothing scarier than constantly thinking your dying! I love you, thank you for being honest 💗

I went through almost an identical situation a couple years back with my health. I was having crying episodes , shortness of breath, and very bad anxiety. I was sure something was wrong and then was sure I was dealing with depression and anxiety which was true. My dr wanted me to try medication and that gave me anxiety even more. Dealt with a panic attack while sleeping which made me not be able to sleep for days and days. It was a struggle and it tested me so much. I had to do an MRI which I freaked out in and panicked lol but girl. It was life changing in such a way I would never want to change it or take it back. God used all of it to grow me as a person and challenge me and change me. I am stronger, more faith filled and faithful, and i know what’s important. My faith in God allowed me to relinquish any control I thought I had and in doing that I found so much peace and I’ve never been more healthy and happy in my life. God changed me and it was so hard and sad and scary and it wasn’t an easy fix but that’s what made it work. I would recommend praying for wisdom and guidance if you are a believer or even if your not girl pray :) and I did a lot of research on sleep anxiety and somethings like watching my sugar before evening and staying away from caffeine helped but it wasn’t an easy fix. It was two years of growth and change and finding God and myself in all of it. Health anxiety is a thing for sure too but please please remember we do not have control over that. Even eating well working out reading lots it’s just not something we can change. What we can change is how we perceive it and none of us live forever we will all get older and God willing figure out that life is about not wasting a moment on anxiety or stress or worry. It’s about loving people and having experiences and for me growing my relationship with God. Let go of that fear and you will be changed girl as much as that sounds cheesy or not easy to do. Just let it all go and know Gods got this. Sending prayers and love your way! ❤️❤️❤️😇

I have bad health anxiety and struggle with heart palpitations and not being able to catch my breath before I sleep, but I’ve found that running in the evenings to tire me out and doing things that distract me that don’t involve sitting down help before I get into bed, also listening to sleep stories on the Calm app and having my diffuser on help. The background noise helps me focus on something other than up my breathing or heart, although every night is different these little things do help :)

I’ve been through the breathing thing when going to sleep and it turned out to be anxiety. It was so bad that I didn’t even realise it was anxiety and my body would just have the reactions without me even thinking about it - like reflex. It happened because I was highly stressed during the day but was kind of covering it so the reactions would come out in physical ways (feeling like I’m not breathing or can’t breathe) at night when my body would try to relax. Once I started seeing a psych it started to clear up and now it never happens. Definitely start seeing someone to work on your anxiety. Hope you feel better soon xx

I’ve had the same symptoms before and tried the essential oil, sleepy tea, meditation, etc. I found one of the things that helped the best was to stop trying to stop the anxiety. Which sounds weird but not fighting it and instead just being with it and experiencing it and reminding myself that I am ok, and gently acknowledging that I’m doing this to myself and I have the power to stop these feelings. Know that your not alone in these feelings and it will pass & they may come back again but it gets easier.

I just have to say you are not alone at all. I have always been the best sleeper until the beginning of this year. My husband and I went on a Christmas/NY trip to Germany and Italy and I’m not kidding when I say every night I wouldn’t fall asleep until 4am. I thought maybe it would get better when i got back into my own bed but it honestly didn’t. I felt the exact same things you did - the breathing thing, and especially the anxiety about sleep which ultimately would keep me awake. It would get to the point that I was convinced I would never sleep again and slowly die from it 😭 It’s so nice to know others go experience it too (not nice, but comforting!). I pray you get better soon Soph! These things really suck :(

Just remember you are a strong, beautiful and capable woman Soph! I may not understand your loss but I've had my own recently & it was what gave me the kick in the ass to take better care of myself personally. I recently had to wear a heart monitor for 2wks and besides the slight discomfort from the adhesive and not showering as much, it was ezpz. I was told by my last GP that all the symptoms I was experiencing was anxiety and it took a few years of tests and a new Dr to realize that it wasn't... and see that is the thing with anxiety, most of the times it manifests within your mind but sometimes it can have an underlying root cause. I feel like I'm more of a hypochondriac now in the sense that now I know I have an illness (POTS) and since I can't get in with a specialist for a year, that something else is always wrong because I just don't feel well. Never forget that all the strength you need is deep down inside of you, and I'm sure your Mom is there holding your hand, cheering you on the entire way. Much love babes, you got this! 💜

I’ve been through exactly what you’re describing and it’s the worst feeling! Especially the times when you question yourself if you’re just being dramatic or if there really is a serious problem.. it’s really frustrating and draining. So sorry you’re going through this ❤. Through lots of tests and research I found out my symptoms were all related to low iron (look up the link between low iron - ferritin and anxiety). I struggled for a longgg time with shortness of breath, feeling cold, light-headed, anxious, sleep difficulties, fatigue etc and it all started going away when I got my iron levels up. Also found out that low iron is a symptom of a deeper root cause, often related to gut health (so most people with the symptoms you mentioned also have GI symptoms). Sharing this to give you some hope that you can and will get better - stay strong girl 🤗

I have seriously bad health anxiety as well. It goes through waves of bad times depending if there’s any “triggers” - during the bad times, I spend hours and hours googling symptoms every day, going to my dr or calling multiple times a week for various questions, not listening to anyone when they reassure me I’m fine (even though I’m the one asking for reassurance), anxiety attacks etc. it’s awful !!!! Completely controls your entire life. I went to therapy a few months ago and it really really helped - would highly recommend

I know it’s hard but I suggest you try cutting out coffee. Even if it’s just for one week, cut it out and see how your anxiety feels. I cut out coffee & alcohol for a month and I felt so much more stable. I still have both time to time but I just limit it now

It’s so weird, I’m sorry you are also experiencing this soph x😢

I appreciate you sharing this so much, I have very similar health problems and I've heard "good news your bloods are normal" enough times to loose a little faith in doctors, but it's still definitely worth getting those tests just to make sure. Seeing a psychologist is a good idea too. I have gotten a lot better in the past year and I'm sure you will find a way to feel better too.

I really had something similar, when i try and sleep and suddenly become so concious of my breathing, like it feels like i will literally pass in my sleep because it feels like i can't breathe. Also same happens to my heartbeat, it either feels too slow or really rapid all of a sudden and i think it turned out to be anxiety from caffiene and so i cut out all caffiene as i noticed the days i had coffee or matcha, it was noticably worse!! even if i had them in the morning, i always felt the effects at night . So cutting out all caffiene really helped for me!! but really hope you start feeling better and thanks for sharing your feelings, honestly so relatable, but sending you love!!!

That is so interesting! I normally have a half strength coffee in the morning so didn't think it would effect much but I will definitely try and cut it all out to see if that helps!!

I have been experiencing the issue of health anxiety and this vicious cycle of not sleeping that you are describing for years, including jolting awake just before I fall asleep, and feeling so exhausted then suddenly so awake. It is truly awful. I have been doing research and while it is definitely anxiety for me I think there may also be a hormonal link. I have been looking into pro-metabolic eating/lifestyle, there seems to be a lot of evidence for its impact on hormones, it may be helpful for you also 💕 thank you for sharing and sending you love💕

I have health anxiety and have had it since my teens (now approaching 30!), I can completely relate to everything you said and how you try to work through it in your own mind! I also have to chat about it to get it out of my system, hope you're feeling better soon and manage to get some decent sleep 🙂x

I also suffer from terrible health anxiety from traumatic past health related events & I’ve just taken the step this week of finding a therapist, I’m excited to see how it goes! I’m proud of you for reaching out. You got this Soph! I know how incredibly hard this thought process can be, so hard to know when to listen to your body & when to know it’s just trauma speaking 🥺 ❤️

i had the exact same thing after a health scare. went from being an amazing sleeper to 4 months of insomnia. i would get tired reading a book and then the anxiety of having a bad night sleep would immediately wake me up. i then thought i had all these hormone issues causing bad sleep when in reality it was my anxiety causing the problem. i know how shit tge feeling is but you’ll get through it!!

Myself as well as many others in the comments have also experienced health anxiety. I got all kinds of blood tests and even an ultrasound on my kidney, but it all came back normal and I just had anxiety. A few tips to reduce some anxiety, try to reduce your news intake. Having a constant stream of bad events in the world can be overwhelming to process. Try to reduce caffeine. I only drink caffeine 2-4 days a week and it reduced my anxiety immensely. Also, the belated grief sounds right on track to what I was thinking the whole time you have talked about your health anxiety. At age 25, your brain fully develops and you can begin to fully grasp the reality of death. I have a masters in clinical mental health counseling and I am a therapist. Going to therapy will help you work through that, probably lots of pent up thoughts that need to be released and processed! Thank you for sharing, I appreciate your videos!

I suffered with debilitating health anxiety so bad that at once point i couldn't leave my house. Id have panic attacks and it would feel like my hands would go numb and then id think it was something more than a panic attack. I'm really proud to say that since being on medication for a bit (which was a really hard and scary decision to make) I'm now working towards being a paramedic. I never in a million year thought i could do anything remotely related to health, but here I am. Things can get better

I actually started ACOTAR this week because of Rachel videos! So fun, excited to hear what you think about it :) I also was so touched when you shared your feelings about your health. As a nurse I just want to sit with you, explain things in a reassuring way and hold your hand you know ahaha. You can do this Soph! Facing fears takes a lot of courage and energy, so take care of yourself an extra lot. xxx

Sending you lots of love and big hugs 💛 totally understand health anxiety and everything that comes with it! I struggle to get to a general appointment with a GP because of it. And blood tests are on a whole other level, must have someone with me the whole time as I’m known to faint also Fingers crossed you can find some answers soon 🤞🏼 You’ve inspired me to get on top of my health anxiety xx

I go through exactly the same symptoms with the days of shortness of breath and the shallow breathing / breathing awareness at bedtime jolting me awake. I definitely think mine is anxiety / PCOS related. I started a low dose anti depressant / anxiety med recently to help and overall it’s been really helpful with sleep, and also sleeping seperate from my Bf so reduce distractions from him snoring etc. It’s so frustrating and tiring though, feel for you x
I got a nose job👃🏼
