As I glassblower myself Im used to hearing glass-talk only from the glass community so its wonderful to hear somebody else appreciate glass and all the skills and techniques🎉❤ and about the young generation of glassblowers, we are not extinct yet! 😂

In the 70's I was captivated by hand blown paperweights so I started collecting it and had many beautiful Morano pieces . After graduation from high school I joined the Navy and while I was in bootcamp my wondetful mother sold all but a few pieces that my sister hid from her .

Wow. That sucks. Glad your sister was able to save you a few.

I went working in London age 19 . When I returned I discovered my mother took my childhood pride and joy , a bike to the dump for no other reason than she could . Truthfully , it hurt that much I never went to her funeral.

No. Murano glass does not have pontils. They cut and polish for a flat smooth bottom.
@peteanddrake42423 жыл бұрын
Murano glass is glass from a REGION of Italy--it is not from one manufacturer or timeframe. Some pieces (made for tourists and export) have Murano stickers. A MASSIVE amount of Czech glass is misidentified as Murano--neither is more valuable or more desirable than the other. Most glass collectors will simply choose to call the glass "Italian" as it cannot be conclusively identified. Almost all "murano" glass found in the US was made for export and differs wildly from art gallery quality pieces that never left Italy. Many people in the UK collected high value Murano and sell their pieces on Ebay.

There are some rough pontil pieces in Murano glass pieces.
@cityfarmhouseantiques99175 жыл бұрын
That is correct! Just a rule of thumb that typically the higher end pieces of hand blown glass have polished pontils.

@@cityfarmhouseantiques9917 Thank you so much for replying. One more question if you would please. Do they all have metal flakes in the glass or is that a technique from a specific artist or Place where they are made? Thank you once again!
@AlexNexus-i6x3 ай бұрын
@@RapidResponce It is a technique that is not always used, it depends on the type of object, most of it is used for vases and glasses. The metal leaves are pure gold and pure silver.

The pontil is not so important. It is the artistry. If a piece has the beautiful detail that takes the talent to make it, it does not matter if it was made in Murano or how old it is. That is one of the great things about collecting this glass, if the artistry is there, you can not go wrong in buying it. Your swans are beautiful.

You can tell the China knockoffs so easily by the lack of detail to the piece. I collect Fish Block Aquariums and the Chinese ones are so crude compared to the nice pieces made at Cendenese and Barbini glass factories during the 50's and 60's.

Please do your research before posting further videos about Murano Glass, you haven't even pronounced the name of the island correctly once in the entire video. And this is Oggetti Glassware....produced on the Island of Murano. The people of Venice have had laws about how things are labeled and categorized when they are produced on the island. Again...researching the history of Murano and Venetian glass making would have given you the knowledge you needed to make this video less laughable! And ENOUGH with the Asian bashing of Murano Style glass making, while it may be cheaper, they are not the only country that does it as your video would suggest. There are companies all over the world that use these techniques, even in the USA!
