Dancing a Viennese waltz takes energy and stamina! I was a teaching assistant in a college ballroom dance class especially for our university athletes...worked on coordination, footing, etc. They were so exhausted after a couple circles of the dance floor!! It's such a dramatic and beautiful dance...definitely makes a statement on the dance floor!
@sifridbassoon6 жыл бұрын
A waltz was originally quite a scandalous dance because the man put his arm around his partner's (gasp!) waist. Waltz, polonaise, mazurka. They were (and still are in some places) originally folk dances. The ländler dance in the movie Sound of Music has elements of all of them. And surprisingly, people dance to waltzes in country/western music. Years ago I watched a group of guys (and some gals) in a gay bar in San Francisco turn out a wonderful performance to Lorry Morgan's song Something in Red! To this day, I'm still sure it was choreographed.

First step to a great waltz: stare intently at your partner from across the room. Step two: stare intently while dancing.
@andjela983 жыл бұрын
Step 3 : cut the dancing and just stare

This is beauty, glamour, sophistication, style and class. What does modern culture give us instead...miley cyrus, kim K and rap crap. And we wonder why things seem to be going to hell. Just my little rant...please forgive. Thank you for a beautiful post.

You don't seem to realise that waltzing was considered lewd, crude and disgusting by the older generation back in the day. You echo their sentiments towards this crass new style of dancing and music as featured in this video.
@Katya_Lastochka7 жыл бұрын
GORDON BENNETT But at least these have clothes on and are actually dancing.
@laserbeam0027 жыл бұрын
Are you actually comparing the waltz with the sluts we see today who are bumping, grinding and twerking on live TV. (ex. Millie Cyrus)? If you are you are stone cold blind.
@gordonbennett56387 жыл бұрын
Are you really that stupid? I didn't compare the dancing styles at all. The comparison is with the oldies attitudes towards a new style of dancing. They, like you, considered the new style to be disgusting and the women no better than whores.

Ppl now a day do not even know how to waltz. I'm guessing us older folks are the only ones with parents who gave you two choices 1 you take dance lessons, OR? 2 you take music lessons. And with my parent their was a third choice!! I got sent to my grandfathers house in another country and had to do the both choices. L.O.L. Damn I'm old. Thanks for sharing luv.
@warjdani7 жыл бұрын
Shinaide 1992 took a waltzing class by myself I was the only there without a partner and under 30. The dance instructor had to be my partner most of the time, but at the end I say we were the graceful ones out there. And I was able to keep up on the foxtrot with him while the wives were getting frustrated with their husbands.
@michellec.33287 жыл бұрын
Shinaide 1992 Hahah Not if you're from Vienna, Austria. It is actually a tradition for all 15-17 year olds to start dancing classes and learn the basics even if it's only for one year! So I at least know the basics even though I'm not one of "you older folks". Bless Austria's Traditions 😂
@itsdune0797 жыл бұрын
Shinaide 1992 I'm quite young (still a minor) and I chose to take both. I currently take ballroom dancing classes (waltz and salsa are my favourite) with adults (I don't have a partner, unfortunately, but some of the time, I have the honour of dancing with my instructors), along with my parents (prior to that, I danced ballet, among other styles, for thirteen years - competitive and non-competitive), and I've been trained in classical voice for the past four years. I took piano lessons, many years ago, and participated in my secondary school's wind band (on French horn) for four years. Although I am one of a population of approximately 7.3 billion, it isn't just "old folks" with the capability to waltz (dance) and/or create music.
