The parallel stones at 15:00 onward remind me of cattle grids. I didn't notice any broader views of it to be able to consider if such a thing were actually possible. I've seen them carved into stone, but not as separate pieces.

To answer your question re the heather Henry, it generally comes into bloom in August, so you're possibly just seeing the beginning. In Scotland the heather blooms twice usually, early summer and late summer. Might be later this year due to the low precipitation. However, late July is probably a wee bit early most years to see heather at its best. 🙂

So in Seattle you see this a lot on in and back out trails. Dog owners leave it next to the trail so they don’t have to carry the entire way and then pick up on the way out.

Henry, the dog poo bag thing. I see it locally and what they do is this, if they have a bag and there isn't a poo bin to dump it in, they leave it in a place, usually concealed, and collect on return and dispose accordingly. Not all councils provide dog poo bins. Of course its feasible that it's just been left to make it someone else's problem.

I don't know how other people feel but I woke up the other day, I wake up at 5 am to get to work for 7 am, and when I got out of the house the air definitely smelled and felt Autumnal. Like it is supposed to smell in late Sept/Oct. It is certainly a Pseudo summer up here in the NW of England.

I totally agree about the dog poo! I went for a walk in the peaks where almost every tree by the path had a bag of poo hanging from it! I just thought WHY?! It is just bizarre, and pointless since the bags last a lot longer than the poo would have done if left alone.

I walk our dog on the Curragh Racecourse and have come accross poo bags discarded on the gravel, I've often seen them discarded near litter bins in my town. Regarding filters, I've abandoned them quite a while and bracket if required but if they work for you great. I don't do sea scapes and am bored of waterfalls📷👍

If I'm on an out and back walk with my dog, I put the poo bag somewhere sensible so that I can pick it on the way back. He tends to do it near the beginning, so it saves me the hassle of carrying it. The owners I hate the most are the ones who allow them to crap on paths and then just leave it. Why they hang poo from trees and leave the bags hanging, I'll never know.

Definitely not the case. If it were you wouldn't see the same bags day after day. And even if it were true, what makes that ok? It's still littering and it's still leaving dog crap everywhere. I can walk along Hadrian's walk week after week and the same bags are in the same holes for months. It's just disgusting dog owners who don't care about anything but themselves.

Just a mediocre picture taking hack but I still prefer the camera but that is familiarity & comfort - it feels more natural in my hand. I also prefer the view finder over the screen. It's only been a couple of years that phones gave the same creative freedom as a "proper" camera. I have always played with settings. More so since I switched from film to digital. I play with filters outside the standard use of them. And again - your enthusiasm and positivity is a great pick me up.

I love your channel mostly because of your familiarity with the area around the Lake District. Henry, I'm planning on coming to the UK sometime from mid February to mid March. Not ideal for outdoors maybe but that's the plan. Any recommendations for places to hike for photos and possible wild camping? What about Snowdonia and Wales? I just spent 20 years in Montana. Snow and bad weather are no stranger. I'll have a hire car and camping gear along with my camera kit.

It drives me crazy when people leave a bag with poop in it on the trail. Either take it out with you or just take a stick or something and throw it off the trail into the woods where no one will step in it. It is biodegradable WITHOUT the plastic bag! I love your videos and photography!!!

Hey Henry, I really enjoying your channel and the way you do things, its a pleasure to see the enthusiasm in you. I think you took a wrong decision with the long exposure shot at the end. I think, you should have tried that one. Maybe not 2 - 3 minutes but about 30 seconds to blur the sky a little bit and make the look a little bit darker and so create something dark, something different. But maybe Im just wrong, great trip at all, thx for the lovely content. :)

Great enthusiasm and content as always Henry. I understand the dislike of the whole poo bags in the wall thing. However, I will do this most days whilst walking my border collie. She stops at the same place most mornings. Just far enough away from a bin and too near the beginning of our journey to carry all the way. Rather than leave it for some poor soul to tread in, I bag it and pop it somewhere I can retrieve, If I'm some distance from a poo tin. It's not always the case that someone is being ignorant. Sometimes they are doing their civic duty but electing not to carry a bag of doo doo on a five mile hike. I know it's frustrating and not very pleasant to see, especially for none dog owners that follow, but probably less so than whiffing it on the sole of your shoes when driving away or scraping it off the lounge carpet. Sometimes I forget or can't find the bag where I thought I put it, no matter how hard I search. The way I pay this back is by picking up bags I see on my travels and binning them. Maybe that's the reason why I lose some of mine, because someone is doing likewise. I agree that it is not pleasant and realise that there are ignorant folk that leave bags hanging from branches or in walls and never retrieve but I have to see the same bag twice before I start to get grumpy. Otherwise I'm thankful for the care they've shown.

Welcome over the border to our neck of tbe woods Henry, appologies for your encounter with dog poo, not a very good advert to our area but i guess most Yorkshire people are also disgusted with this sort of thing. Liked tbe last shot and use of fast shutter speed to freeze the ferns. Do you think a really long exposure with filter on of same shot might give a "creative shot", thinking of really sharp limestone rocks with a green mist like effect between them as ferns sway in the breeze (similar to say a long exposure sea shots or am i thinking too much here). Love this area ( Twistleton scar and lone trees just around the corner near Whernside) and thanks for the day out with camera again.

As a dog owner I find it infuriating that someone would go to the trouble of picking up and then discarding the bag in the countryside 😡 they live amongst us I’m afraid and litter is my pet hate. Lovely images Henry, particularly liked the limestone pavement with the ferns, when conditions are not perfect, look closer and as you say shutter speed is essential where movement is concerned whether it be clouds, water or vegetation. Playing around with shutter speed can make or break an image, I’m still grappling with it but experimenting is part of the fun 😉 it’s good when you nail it though

Always looking forward to your videos. I think that the creativity piece is what photography is all about and why we buy these "proper" cameras. I'm at a point that I want (need?) to get back to some of the basics so that I can actually grow in some of the areas that I may have skipped over in the past. The creativity is definitely something that can go to the wayside if we get too involved in the technical aspects, but it always needs to be there in the background, just nagging at us until we give it some attention.

Because they think they have done what is asked of them, they have to have each part of the process explained, ie when your dog has pood pick it up in a plastic bag, tie the bag up carry it to a bin do not hang it on a fence, gate, tree etc or leave it on the floor you need to carry it to a bin then put the bag with poo in into the bin, job done.

re the dog poo thing. Like everyone..it seems like complete madness to bag it and leave it. But to play devils advocate (not that I think this is the case all the time) it could possibly be that someone who WAS bringing their poo bag back to dispose of safely, actually had said package drop from their pocket, and someone else found it and hung it from a tree/left it in the wall to get it off the walkway. I only started suspecting this after I got down to the end of my walk to find my bag was no longer with me...

This is a story, relating to your unpleasant discovery in your video, about people who mishandle poo in the wilderness: Here in the fire-prone southwestern US earlier this year, a man was in the national forest. There were fire season warnings obviously posted in many places, and campfires were completely disallowed. Humidity was around only 10% with 40mph winds and dry brush - in essence, an absolute tinderbox potential situation that anyone should clearly understand. But this guy did a poo, and instead of simply burying it, he decided he wanted to burn the paper for some reason. So he lit it. And the wind kicked in. It flamed up, so he threw his sleeping bag upon it. That made the fire bigger. He panicked and fled in his truck, but people saw him so they did catch him and arrest him. The fire went on to burn more than 26,000 acres. Yes, that's 26 thousand, not 26 hundred. Many nearby residents were evacuated for several days. I don't think any structures or homes were lost. But it cost millions of dollars for hundreds of fire personnel to fight this fire with everything from large air tankers laying down fire retardant to people on the ground fighting it by hand. What a mess. And all because this idiot couldn't just simply bury his crap or take it out with him when he left.

Yeah it is a bit puzzling and "leaving it to get on the way back" isn't a great excuse either, my mate started their own product which is basically a tiny drybag on a belt to take with you and keep them in. The one that has been bugging me a fair bit of late is the foil helium birthday balloons, it is amazing the numbers of those that you see out on the tops.

If a child falls and their eyes come into contact with dog poo there’s a really nasty disease that can make them blind. The bag would offer some protection against this, but yeah take your poo home with you (from a responsible dog owner)
