This Will Go Down as The WORST Officiating Call in NFL History! The Detroit Lions were robbed of a victory against the Dallas Cowboys after the NFL officials incorrectly called illegal touching on the Lions 2 point attempt.
#lions #cowboys #nfl #penalty #taylordecker #dancampbell #jaredgoff #nflplayoffs #officials #detroit #detroitlions #thatsgoodsports #brandonperna #referees Taylor Decker was an eligible receiver. The Brad Allen officiating crew was wrong,
Jared Goff throws the 2 point conversion to Taylor Decker, but the officials penalize the Lions for illegal touching.

That's absurd. The Lions have had a number of games where they *benefited* from bad calls by the refs. I'm a cowboys fan that is pissed about how awful the ref shave been. And they got this call wrong. That being said, they had six men on the line which is illegal formation and carries a five yard loss and the points wouldn't have counted. So literally the result we got from the bad call was the exact result we would have got if that play was accurately refereed. Horrible game by the refs. The time the penalty is called matters yes, like the 3 times 11 was held on the drive the touchdown was scored on or the phantom trip on hindershot which was actually committed by the lions Hutchinson. @@johnellis7338 That's what I was thinking. The formation has been isolated and reviewed and has been called legal by many analysts including Kurt Warner so I am happy with that. We have a player error where #70 ran up to the Field Ref and brushed his shirt with his right hand and the ref noted him as indicating he was eligible. You can only have one eligible receiver a play. Even the Coach said that the ref noted 70 as being eligible. 70 ran up to the ref and he was touching his number as a decoy to the players that were watching him on defense. He was trying to be a decoy and fool the defensive team. The Lions have been doing this all year and got caught. I am sure the coach spoke to 70 and told him you were too convincing don't touch your number again. After this, a ref is no longer going to accept touching your jersey and only one person will be allowed to approach the ref which will eliminate the element of surprise but at least the refs won't have to hear complaints about bad officiating.

Even if Decker reported, the Cowboys were not notified of his eligibility and the Lions should have known this, but they went ahead with the play anyway. The NFL clearly stated that it is the players responsibility to make sure the officials know about the eligibility! To make matters worse the Lion’s sent 3 players to the refs, it was total confusion and only 1 player can report, Decker was covered and was ineligible! But, it's not common to have a player report as eligible repeatedly during the game, then have a situation where multiple players approach the officials, and at the last moment that same player runs in and approaches the ref. It seems pretty clear that Detroit was attempting to catch Dallas napping by making them think that 70 was reporting eligible again, and hoping that they wouldn't notice that the ref told them 68 reported. When Allen walked away to go report to Dallas, 70 went to the huddle with 58 and 68 . Allen did not make a PA announcement on that play. The recording on this video is from a prior announcement by the PA announcer and not Allen. Detroit had no way of knowing what Allen told Dallas. Dallas was in man coverage and Wilson covered Decker when he went downfield. No pro defensive back sees a player in an eligible position and does not cover him because they don't think the player reported as eligible and hopes that the ref calls a penalty. That's all on Campbell not the refs. Campbell had a genius idea to create chaos by sending 3 different players up to the ref to confuse the defense. The refs clearly stated that 70 was the eligible player prior to the play and informed the Cowboys thus. Campbell heard the announcement and did nothing to correct it. He also was dumb enough to try the 2 point conversion two more times so there is that. The only controversy is how Campbell screwed up that much in a short time frame.

Over the PA they said 70 was eligible, which they had done multiple times. If 70 was, then 68 could not be. Is it illegal formation or illegal touching? Pick one.

Actually it was a good call, given that the official thought it was #70 reporting. He announced #70 to the defense and it was on the loudspeaker. So ,Dallas laid off #68. Detroit kept going with the play anyway knowing it would be called back. They shot themselves in the foot. There are worse calls every week.

I slightly disagree. Detroit didn’t know that 70 was reported as eligible. It was over the PA but they aren’t paying attention to that. They didn’t know it was going to get called back. That doesn’t make much sense.

Not buying it. How does Goff know with absolute certainty that Decker reported? He was 30 feet away. Decker says “I did what the coach told me to do.” Very odd phrasing. The coach was also evasive in the post-game news conference. What was it he explained to the refs before the game? He doesn’t actually say. Lions tried to pull something off which didn’t work and blaming the refs instead of owning up.

The more I learn about this and the more video I see the more I side with the NFL and think the Lions screwed up. 70 is once again identifying himself as eligible while he and 58 and 68 are approaching. 68 is not communicating this correctly, if at all. You can see the official seeing 70 communicate this. The reason the Lions sent three guys over was to intentionally cause confusion while interacting with the refs. Nobody said anything or complained when 70 was announced as eligible. Why? Probably because the Lions were trying to have to both ways and they screwed themselves. Furthermore the tripping call against the Cowboys should've been on the Lions and that would've sealed the game for the Cowboys.

If the Cowgirls don't throw three times it doesn't get to that point either. Fact of the matter is, it did. The only difference between the two is that there was only time and a chance for one team to overcome the shoddy refereeing.

The Detroit Lions tried to be slick and it bit them in the a$s. Number 70 made the eligible signal. The referee told 100,000 human beings in the stadium. Number 70 is eligible. Among those human beings, was the entire Detroit team. If they say nothing, then that was the right call. After the first failed attempt they should've gone for the extra point. They elected to do it twice more and still failed. The head ref got the call right. The Dallas Cowboys beat the Detroit Lions 20 to 19 Deal with it.

@@johnfischer_2 it’s probably more “enjoyable” (less unenjoyable) for a player than admitting you accidentally lost a game for your coach, your team, and your fanbase …or admitting you screwed up as a ref. I can’t imagine either side in that situation would want to be the biggest story in football that day. So, What was actually said between those 4 people? Nobody knows. It’s all he-said/she-said. It’s just interesting that people think they know, and that those thoughts happen to confirm their existing narratives they have emotional attachment to :)
