To be honest, the only thing that bothers me about KZbin is the nonsensical censorship on the platform. It hurts far more people than it helps.
@bh_quicksilver251 Жыл бұрын
Viewers and creators aren't the customer. The advertisers are. So if it helps get more advertisers, then that's the direction they will go. And it must help ad revenue to be overly conservative with censorship, so that's what they will do. When 1 creator leaves, 10 more will be their to fill their place. I'm not saying that doesn't suck, but it's the reality of it.

Me too. I’m not even against some censorship on a platform like KZbin. Ad revenue is a necessary evil for free content. But it’s really out of hand on KZbin. People are still censoring themselves for saying Covid-19! A thing I don’t even think they need to do anymore. But see the bigger problem is a lack of understanding about what to censor. My question to Neal would be this: the single most common complaint I hear from content creators is that KZbin just straight up _does not communicate_ with its creators; major updates are dropped without warning, people who’ve had their channels suddenly taken down are left waiting for an explanation that never comes, and even the points of contact specifically hired to bridge the gap between the company and the creators remain largely in the dark and unable to resolve even the most basic of issues. How can we trust that KZbin has the best interests of its users at heart when it has thus far adamantly refused to be even remotely transparent with us?
@felixkurzke8524 Жыл бұрын
KZbin, like any company, doesn’t have anybody’s best interest at heart, it’s as simple as that 🤷♂️ they’re here to make money and they’re pretty good at it. I mean we all just accept the insane amount of ads we all get now without question.

KZbin has zero incentive to work WITH creators on the development of this platform. They’re the only game in town after all, so why should they feel any pressure to kowtow to the users with only added complications on their end and little return to show for it? Consumer goodwill is meaningless when you’re already at the top. You’re going to keep using it; creators are going to keep working around whatever dumb decisions they make; and investors are going to keep collecting their cheques. When a rival platform emerges to challenge KZbin’s uncontested reign over digital content, then (and only then) will they come to the negotiating table.

Not really a question but some feature suggestions for Neal: 1. Automatic A/B thumbnail testing where you can upload multiple thumbnails on a video and KZbin automatically tests which gets the highest click through and picks that thumbnail as default. 2. When you upload a short that has music already, automatically match it to a sound instead of marking it as copyright infringement. IG does this and it’s so nice. 3. Improve KZbin live chat, it moves too fast and is hard to read. You have to use Truffle to fix it. Make live chat show username handles instead. If the user isn't watching live, their chat message shouldn't show up in the live chat. It ruins the experience seeing people chat about something that isn't currently happening.

PLEASE bring up the whole advertiser issues that have been going on. KZbin Kids is a COMPLETELY separate platform (if not, it should be), so they need to understand that they should not be overly censoring the regular KZbin, as it should be the adult version of the platform. They will lose creators over this kinda ridiculous stuff--and don't let them tell you it's not "advertiser-friendly" because ads have always run for things like Adult Swim, Family Guy, South Park, etc. As for things like triggering topics, in particular, as long as they put the trigger warning disclaimer before the video, that should be sufficient and not grounds for automatic demonetization. On that note, they should allow streamers to put it in the moment they realize something on their stream would be triggering and give them time to put that warning up if it accidentally happens so that future viewers will at least get that warning. Furthermore, say, for instance, if someone wants to talk about their experience with things like SA and DV--even their stories can get demonetized if they don't word things extra carefully or edit the video greatly. Like, I have PTSD from watching my late fiancée in the process of dying, and I've come to accept that triggers are oftentimes unpredictable/unavoidable; however, it'd be very difficult for me to talk about it on YT because they'd want everything censored to such a degree that it could potentially defeat the purpose of wanting to help others not go through similar things or learn how to cope with similar traumas. Part of the whole appeal of YT is that it feels like more of a personable experience with creators, and reality is not all sunshine and rainbows. KZbin's censorship has gotten so out of hand that--hell, I've seen doll repaint artist have to cover up DOLL PARTS, games with excessive gore and heavy/real topics get removed/highly edited, and more that ultimately get demonetized even retroactively, which can destroy many channels if they don't manage to get enough alternate streams of income coming in. Side note: I would like to also bring up that creators should also be allowed to use copywritten music so long as they provide links/credit to the original source. It's free advertisement for the musicians.
@JustLifeLikeItIs Жыл бұрын
Yeah what she said!
@cjkane13 Жыл бұрын
Fair points. Seems like there’d be multiple solutions to the content/advertising issues. The music would likely need to be between the current system and your suggestion. If used it could count as a listen towards their song on KZbin music or an official music video. The artists would have to agree to it to some degree and many would want to get paid something. All of the topics you’ve mentioned should be changed for the better.
@MsAnxiety Жыл бұрын
@@cjkane13 I agree. As for the music thing, I'm pretty sure I've heard that YT can split percentages of revenue from videos, so maybe it could automatically apply a percentage according to what percentage of the video that the music takes up? Not sure, but it would be nice to be able to use whatever while still allowing the artist to be paid without jumping through hoops to try to get all the legal permissions and stuff each time.

When it comes to Livestreaming the major reason (when polling 5000 Small Streamers) the majority stay on Twitch seems to be because of community tools like Channel Points, etc, is KZbin considering anything like that? 3. One of the most pressing issues on KZbin other than copyright abuse, is honestly the comment section, almost no other platform has the issue that the comments on KZbin has with spam bots, fake accounts, and scams. Question #2: Comment moderators - It would be nice for a creator to be able to give comment moderators power to ban/hide entire channels, the same power channel editors have, without having to give them the level of trust that giving them editor privs requires. Right now moderators can only ban spam comments one at a time, not hide the whole account. It's incredible tedious if you mod a large channel, but the channel owner doesn't trust you enough to give you editor privileges. (Which is very understandable from their perspective.) Likewise, a moderator power to "hide all comments from this user PLUS all comments that have REPLIED to this user in the past" so that a moderator can with a single push of a button hide all the bot-posts plus all the people who "helpfully" say, "Ignore them, it's a bot" so that after the bot comment is removed the helpful-peoples' comments don't look strange.

My question would be: Are you going to clearly state the youtube regulations and apply them evenly across the board to all content creators or will you continue to pick and choose how you handle different infractions?

Could you ask him if they would stop focusing so much on average view duration, and instead focus on average percentage watched? Right now KZbin penalizes you if you make videos that are shorter than your average upload length.

One of the features I miss the most is the (Oldest Videos) feature. People don't talk about it, I don't think it's coming back, but it'd be great if there was an alternative to looking at a creator's older videos that doesn't go against the reasons they took it out. If that's possible. I'd at least like to know if they've thought about an alternative, or if it's an option that will just not appear again. But awesome video! I don't think the new CEO is as bad as people make him out to be if you're able to communicate with him just like with Susan. Looking forward to the interview!

Haha yeah big shocker the end of the vid, but great video! I think I’d ask Neal what his roadmap might look like for the next fee years of youtube, and get maybe his take on the current state, and then his goals for the future. Also, I think honestly you had pretty decent take concerning the state of youtube. We can’t really foresee the future of youtube definitively because it’s so subjective to each person. I mean like, there are some over arching things that can be good or bad for youtube, but for the most part it’s like you said, you know if you didn’t like how it was run, then you won’t like the next few years, and if you do, then great! But yeah just more of the same. Anyway great vid lud, keep popping out the lukewarm bangers lol

What I'd like to know is: Is there a way for small creators to spread out their "test" views over the course of the day or the week. I don't like having to research the exact right time of day/week to release my shorts video. It is clear from my analytics that KZbin only lets viewers "pull" my video to them for about 20-60 minutes shortly after it is released. (I'd say, "KZbin pushes my video to user's shorts feed for only 20-60 minutes" but the YT blog posts imply that they like to think of the algorithm the reverse of the way I do.) When I finish making a short in the middle of the night US time, if I release it immediately, it gets 200-2000 views for exactly 40 minutes, or maybe 60 if those first viewers liked it taking it to 7K views, or as little as 20 minutes if the first viewers didn't like it, and then it gets near-zero more views. Most of the US audience sleeps through the entire time when my video is test-added to people's shorts feed. I feel as though US viewers would enjoy the content more than those in Indonesia, but Indonesia and the Philippines are the places where my videos are most popular because when I first started releasing shorts, it was prime time there, so my subs are there. Those viewers are really not liking my MrTechnodad content, which is distinctly different from my prior content and unlikely to persist, yet, it's still awesome and the most likely thing to get me to that 90M, but I can't change that test audience of existing subs. Once YT thinks it's locked in who my audience is, it's hard to change that.

Ludwig why are you so political these days. It seems like every video now has a sly political comment thrown in there that just leaves a sour taste, less fun and inclusive. Even the podcast seems to have a lot of political topics too which makes the content less enjoyable. Not saying its bad to have an opinion, just saying the content is less enjoyable with the amount of politics/sly political statements thrown in in recent times

Question for Neal: KZbin has a complex set of policies related to firearm content, including not being able to load some magazines into guns and (what was recently removed) not being able to show the attachment of suppressors. How do you plan to balance the need to protect public safety with the rights of gun enthusiasts to share content related to their hobby?
@user-zh7th2ge1c Жыл бұрын
I think its worth mentioning that investors want to see companies explore every avenue of growing their value. So most opportunities are probably going to be at least publicly spoken about.

I know in 2017ish she was under a lot of accusations for censoring republicans. That’s the only controversy I know her from
@Tom_Hillman Жыл бұрын
They gave user data to Viacom in 2010, the Content ID system had an awful rollout in 2013, In 2016 they made it worse by incentivising people to strike videos with the KZbin Heroes Program. The 2017 adpocalypse didn't just affect alt-right creators, but any creator who swore, made challenging jokes, or left wing channels reporting on controversial topics. That basically invented the dreaded 'demonitized' status. It was an awful decision to avoid losing sponsors which didn't work. The republicans really got mad in 2019 when KZbin actually decided to make a good decision, to crack down on alt-right accounts. Also in 2017 was the scandal where mass amounts of pedos were in the comments of kids videos writing coded messages to one another, and KZbin didn't do enough to stop it. They gave certain favoured creators (Logan Paul, Jake paul etc) more money per view deliberately because they were encouraging that type of engaging, ignorant constant for kids. Not to mention, Individual creators and their dramas with KZbin as a company would take hours to write about.

Questions I would ask Neal. 1. What are you do you think about spam comments on youtube. 2. Opinion on bringing back dislikes. 3. Nfts. 4. Improvements in communication with creators. 5. Temporary testing of stuff before dropping updates like Hiroshima. 6. Better ways to upload videos to youtube. 7. Detailed transparency about payments to content creators. 8. His vision about youtube.
