For anyone (like me) who is interested in this mod and is considering doing it themselves, let me give you a hot tip. After doing it, I found you can achieve the effect heard here simply by shorting the resistor R35 in the unit by using a small piece of wire soldered to both legs, bypassing it. This process is described in the original dbx 117 manual. IMHO drilling a hole in the facia and adding a pot isn't needed, as the shorting mod allows you to access this infinite compression ratio via the unit's original big knob. I'm assuming that the new knob in the video is replacing the R35 resistor with a 2k pot, which isn't necessary if the main knob can do its job for it. Hope this makes sense. Happy to be corrected if this is not the case... 🙂 Maybe a better mod would be a switch in the place of the new knob in the video to allow you to switch back to a factory/stock machine if needed?

Thats good to know thanks! I will open the unit to see if thats the mod you were talkin about. Although im happy with the way the pot works. Im not always needing it so i turn it off and when i need a bit more compression ratio i can dial it slight in. A switch cant do that right? Bless!

That would be awesome. 🙂 Re: the mod, what I was trying to say in my own confusing way is that I think both our mods are the same, except mine doesn’t have a second knob. When you turn both yr knobs to max, turning the big knob down (clockwise) produces the same effect as turning the small one down (anti-clockwise), yes?

@@Pamberjack_ nope, when i turn the big knob clockwise down its getting in expension mode. The other small knob is volume to gain match. The mod knob is to add extra ratio to taste. I opened it up and took some pictures, if you want i can send them to your email?
