I have a ton of hoodies that range from $40-$450 and the black amuletware carpenter hoodie I have is by and far my favorite. The $120 range seems to be the sweet spot for me. I just ordered their adjuster and their cropped zip hoodie and I’m excited! That being said, as goofy as I feel for spending the money on it, the Sacai x carhartt hoodie I have is amazing. It feels very premium, but there’s only so much you can add to add value.

The mesh on the cuffs and bottom of the Acronym hoodie looks like Powermesh, which is pretty frequently used in athletic wear and dance clothing. Typically sells for about $10-20 a yard in fashion district fabric stores, especially if you're looking at a special metallic finish (doesn't look like that's the case here though)

Hoodie-adjacent (I own a bunch of hoodies, but wanted something to wear under a shell without a hood getting in the way); I picked up a teal/blue Patagonia fleece from a vintage shop yesterday (out of my all-black Goth Comfort Zone), the colour suited me well, a perfect XL fit on me, still in really good condition, and all for £45. Today I got a mailer for a new Vollebak fleece - much higher tech materials, probably more hardwearing, I know the XL with fit me nicely - but that is literally over ten times what I paid for the Patagonia. I'm on the fence right now, getting such a good pickup for not a lot has put me off doing the bigger spend 😅
@ThisIsAntwon

Vintage is a great way to shop - the Vollebak one is probably not going to be 10 times as good! Maybe in future someone will sell theirs though and you can grab a steal 👀

As someone who sews I would never go for a hood with a wavey seam like that. That to me just screams manufacturing error where they didn't care enough to manage the fabric properly as they were sewing it. Also from the sewing perspective- to make something look expensive, apparently just put the zipper in on a bias lol. A bit of a technical challenge yes, but not too difficult. I'm just starting to realize how much of this I could do. Even sourcing materials doesn't seem too difficult, especially anything soft.
@ThisIsAntwon
@ThisIsAntwon 10 ай бұрын
Appreciate your perspective! I guess with a lot of stuff like this, even when it's expensive, it's still being made quickly en masse and there's pressure to get them out quickly.

My favourite hoody I’ve ever worn is the John Elliott Villian hoodie. Riri zippers, Pocket inside the hoodie once the zips are open. Great fitting hood and premium materials. In also a fan of a hoodie without a waist band to give a more elongated and bunched up look. Stone Island and FOG essentials have great options

Those folds on the hood are 100% intended. If you compare it for example to the Balenciaga Tape Hoodie, that also has the exact same folds in there , and that although it's using the different sewing pattern where the stitching only goes up 50% of the hood in the neck to give it stability. If they didn't do that on purpose, then the front of the hood would look all wonky too but they do it to nicely drape the hood when it's down (which it'll be basically always if we're honest). So since that's such a common pattern that we see everywhere I'd be suprised if QC at Acne didn't catch that at a) that price point and b) given how they find the sewing defects on the inside, under the arms etc; cause there you will see that the stitching is absolutely on point, and even more aequidistant as on a lot of other mid-tier sweaters like the Carhartt. Edit: Well now I watched a couple minutes more and realized you came to the same conclusion. Yay!

My favorite hoodies are from North Hill. You can get em under 100 bucks on sales, and it’s 100% made in Paris with fabric bought through local stores. Plus, you have a lifetime free reparations, and can get 40 bucks back if you don’t wan’t it after a while (even if it’s used) - made in a Paris atelier - local fabric suppliers - under 100 bucks - lifetime reparations Couldn’t find any better quality/ ethical value for the price so far. (They also sale 1:1 prototype that didn’t make the collection for crazy cheap, and it’s a unique piece)

Now I mostly wear Superdry...reckon it as somewhat of an "douchebag label", but like said, I prefer bold colours and these have been really hard to find elsewhere as street fashion has been dominated by the black & greige trend for so long 🫣

I like that you reviewed alot of hoodies style wise, but I would have liked some hoodie review technical & performance wise. You mentioned Houdini, Mission workshop, and MAAP very briefly and there are alot of Polartec's portfolio. The acronym hoodie was nominated for Polartec's Apex Awards and it displayed a ton of uses under Polartec's umbrella. As I am hiking more frequently, I'm looking into more "gorp" brands than fashion-oriented brands. Polartec is seen alot in hiking brands in the sub $300 range, so there is a huge price discrepancy between €832 acronym hoodie and Patagonia's $170 R2 jacket (for instance). Maybe a video idea would be a technical overview of how Polartec/fleece is used, functions of each garment, and how they are compared at different price points?
@ThisIsAntwon
@ThisIsAntwon 10 ай бұрын
Thanks for this! Would be a great alternative approach for a topic like this, looking more at what sorts of performance and features hoodies can bring over and above a typical cotton/poly option. There's no doubt with Acronym you're paying a big premium for getting the material in a fashion-forward product and for most people that's probably not 'worth it'
@TheGreySpectrum
@TheGreySpectrum 10 ай бұрын
Which two out of these (not including the acronym one) would you regard as your personal favorites? Also, have you heard of 'blousing your trousers'? It's the technique used in the military (in the US, anyway) to roll up and fix in place pant legs when wearing boots and gets that sort of distinctive military look. I learned it while briefly in a voluntary military school as a teen, since we had to wear BDUs on the first day of each week, and although I still use it and some boot bands while wearing my Bates boots and even my hightop sneakers I've never actually met a civilian that knew wtf 'blousing your trousers' was. Figured I'd mention it here since it does grant a unique look and because it's sort of obscure military lore that might be of some interest to you if you didn't know about it, given that techwear incorporates many elements that are either originally military or actual surplus/milspec gear. Cargos, boots, MA-1 jackets, etc.

that rule of thumb only applies to more mainstream fashion brands but anyone interested in techwear or even just any performance-oriented clothing that are still from mainstream brands (nike, adidas, etc), polyester is unavoidable and will probably be present at every price point

The lack of mention of the new Enfin Levé gurutze textured cotton hoodie is rather surprising, the sleekest and most modern hoodie to come out in recent times.

My favorite hoodie is a band hoodie I got because I liked the design and I've had to repair it three times in less than a year. Totally worth it.

I have never bought a hoodie in my life, I just constantly get given them for christmas and birthday, they are nearly all just printed with something I like that's nerdy, so I recommend that; be nerdy :D

Honestly, I just want to go for something simple. Neutral, not expensive (like, 130 euros for 1 piece is generally the max for me right now). Comfortable materials and an oversized fit (preferably with an oversized hood, but not necessary).

Took me a few vids to realize the text is, if not all, mostly satire. Besides the descriptions displayed in text oc. lol Superdry has the best hoodies I've ever purchased and they are consistent. I like Superdry period, I've never gotten a cheap piece of clothing from that label but I have paid cheap prices. 14:12 lmao

i got Cole Buxton the same u show in the video and honestly the quality isnt there, i will say Represent has better hoodies, you could also talk a little bout vetements hoodies, as for me id say the weight of them is something remarkable

This is a great video. The title didn’t give away all the price points, it that’s the best thing. Love this, so much info, might have to watch twice.

omg I have one, most expensive hoodie I own, bought it out of impulse but god damn it's just perfect. I even wore it snowboarding, it was so warm and cozy didn't need a jacket, just some thermals underneath

Yeah good call, picked up the Therma-FIT 'Tuff Fleece' early autumn for a good discount and it's really heavy duty and snug - getting more wear as the winter rolls around.
