Indeed you are correct about baseline models. As an audio professional I have completed several projects using a base model 2013 MacBook Air with 4GB RAM and 128GB SSD. Projects were stored on an external drive and the internal drive used exclusively for the OS and its applications. That laptop is still running flawlessly today. Fast forward to 2023 when I purchased my M1 MacBook Air with 8GB RAM and 256GB SSD. Performance is flawless and the value is unmatched. This laptop has been recommended by almost everyone in the tech industry over the M2 MacBook Air as the best laptop to buy in 2020-2024 until Apple removed it from their website. M2 runs hotter and is less efficient than M1 making its gains negligible in the chassis of a fan-less MacBook Air. With the M3 MacBook Air, Apple has improved upon the shortcomings of the M2 MacBook Air. They have brought back dual nand chips for SSD speeds compatible to the M1 MacBook Air and with the new 3 nanometer architecture of the M3, efficiency and thermal performance have improved. In my experience, the M2 MacBook Air is the one to skip. If you are looking for value and performance, get the M1 MacBook Air and if you are looking for the latest, get the M3 MacBook Air. Both machines in their base configuration are fully capable of professional audio, video and photo editing.

I use a base M2 and it was never hot. It is more than capable and the fact the SSD is slower has no impact on my workflow. This machine is my main machine since almost 4 months. This is the best on the gon laptop. For heavy artiststic work I use My IMac for the rest this machine is more than capable. But yes the M1 was and still the best of the line-up same when it comes to the Pro line-up the M1 Pro is an amazing machine. I think Apple did the M1 chips line-up to good and the M2 was intentionally not as good as its predecessor. Same with the M3 the M4 is the next big thing. So I will wait until Spring 2025 to buy my new MBA but with 16-18gb Ram.

Is it reallyimpssible to use the base m3 macbook air for video editing? I am planning to delve into becoming a youtuber, and i havent got the budget for a macbook air with upgraded ram. I can only afford the base model right now. Has anyone tried editing videos on 8gbs of ram?

It's NOT impossible one bit. The possibilities depend on your video editing workflow, of course. You can't expect to have multiple 4k timelines with log, LUTs, and effects and have everything run super smoothly.

Every single youtuber i've seen say the macbook air with 8gb is "Good enough" do NOT themselves use it and use the maxed out pro versions. Also it can do 80% of tasks?? if 100% of what you do is web browsing then yes, the air can do 80% of it. Everything else from compiling code, to even running apples own apps like final cut or xcode struggle to run on the base air models. Other than the looks the air is just a web browsing/note taking machine. But its excellent at that!

Couldn’t disagree more 👍

@@ThisIsE Agree to disagree!😊 I was just speaking from experience. When I run Xcode iOS simulator for react native work or compile relatively large code on IntelliJ my m1 air base model heats up to over 100 Celsius and throttles like crazy. Not to mention it uses an insane amount of swap memory from the ssd. I think it’s time to upgrade lol. I’ll still keep using it for very basic tasks like spreadsheets of watching videos

To write some python code and use VMs, what do you think about the air model with 16gb or 24gb? Enough but how about hearing? Show I consider a MacBook Pro instead? Thanks
@archis323 күн бұрын
@@miltonmix1 yeah always consider a macbook pro for any coding other than very basic web dev. For VMs you def need a pro for the gpu and ram atleast 24gb+
