On 20 June 1995, London's elite came together to witness the wedding of Pakistani cricket legend Imran Khan and Jemima Goldsmith in a civil ceremony at the Richmond register office in London. The pair were married the previous month in a traditional Pakistani ceremony in Paris. Among the guests at that evening's reception in Surrey reception were Princess Michael of Kent, Michael Parkinson, and David Frost. Princess Diana, who was a close friend of Jemima Khan's, did not attend.
Former Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan has called for nationwide protests after being sentenced to three years in jail. Khan was found guilty following allegations of corruption, including failing to disclose money earned from selling gifts while sitting as prime minister. Earlier this year, state security forces clashed with Khan's supporters amid countrywide protests that followed news of Khan's arrest.
