For that matter Skyfall is also, in my opinion anyway, THE best James Bond movie in the whole franchise. But No time to die is a pretty good one, superior to Spectre, which was slightly disappointing, especially coming after Skyfall, and on the level of Casino Royale, which was excellent. But Skyfall keeps its number one spot in my personal Bond ranking. Just about perfect on every level, A+++. I give No time to die an A+.

I really appreciated the delicate aspects of the song, it is, at first glance, a little too tender to be a Bond Theme, especially compared to Skyfall which is epic and angsty and belty. This, however, perfectly reflects the movie itself. No Time To Die was by far the most heartfelt and heart-wrenching of the films while still incorporating everything that makes a good Bond film, and Billie's song reflects that. You could say it's almost...lullaby-esque in some ways...spoilers.

Also with No Time To Die, the initial piano note sequence is 8 bars, each bar consisting of 8 notes. 2 bars make up each 'segment' of the sequence, so E B F# B | G B B(8va) B, is one 'sequence, with the '|' being the bar line. If we observe all the notes. E B F# B | G B B(8va) B E C F# C | G C B(8va) C E C# F# C# | G C# B(8va) C# Eb B E B | F# B F# B The changing note in the first three sequences, (B, C, C#), follow that classic Bond progression/suspense motif seen in Dr No., minus the final 'C'. It's subtle, but as it is the only note being changed, it gives a slight mystery/Bond vibe to it.

Everyone saying "why wasn't Finneas mentioned": Yes, he is a big part of Billie's music, but first of all, the music is released under her name so it's perfectly valid to call it her music and also, acting like Finneas is the sole mastermind behind the music, kinda discredits Billie's part in it's creation.
@akyhne3 жыл бұрын
Right. I don't think you can say, that the artist wrote the song alone, except maybe for Duran Duran song. And Billie co-wrote at least the lyrics for "No Time to Die".
@sarahbateman82173 жыл бұрын
RIGHT. It bothers me that people are quick to call Finneas a creative genius (which don't get me wrong, he is) but then when I say that Billie is a creative genius, people give me a look. Now that women are the main driving force of the music industry (both the performers and the consumers), when are we going to stop pretending that women aren't geniuses? That women aren't prodigies? When are we going to give women the appreciation that they're due?
@lulllaby3 жыл бұрын
The point is not to discredit someone, but in fact properly credit all talent involved. Billie receiving all the credit, Hans Zimmer a quick mention and Finneas not even a whisper getting to people seems understandable. Especially since it wouldn't have been hard to give a quick shoutout to the already well known second name behind the Billie Eilish brand. Now if this video just tried to showcase the songs next to each other without any further dive into the material then just naming the official artist would have been fine. But this video tried to be a more analytical in depth essay about the comparison between the songs. Not giving credit where credit is due is just plain rude. And they didn't even talk about Billies vocals to make the part she was majorly involved in shine.
@akyhne3 жыл бұрын
@@lulllaby Have you ever heard that x released a new album, but the songs were written by y? No you don't. When an artist releases a new album, you just hear that, and only that. Especially in the pop scene, it's normal for artists, to buy songs from song writers, who makes a living of writing songs. It's only when you go into the CD cover, and read who wrote the lyrics, and music, that you'll find out, the artist may not have had a single foot in writing a particular song. Take for instance the first Backstreet Boys album from 1996, by the same name: 1) "We've Got It Goin' On" Writer(s): Herbie Crichlow, Max Martin and Denniz PoP 2) "Anywhere for You" Writer(s): Gary Baker (songwriter) and Wayne Perry (songwriter) 3) "Get Down (You're the One for Me)" Writer(s): Bülent Aris and Toni Cottura 4) "I'll Never Break Your Heart" Writer(s): Albert Manno and Eugene Wilde 5) "Quit Playing Games (With My Heart)" Writer(s): Herbie Crichlow and Max Martin 6) "Boys Will Be Boys" Writer(s): Veit Renn and Jolyon Skinner 7) "Just to Be Close to You" Writer(s): Tim Grant (violist) and Michael Gray (songwriter "Just to Be Close to You") ... and 5 more songs on the album. I think you get the picture. I can only see one name reapearing several times, and his name is Denniz PoP. A Swedish DJ, no one ever heard about. And that's how it is, in the music business. Credits goes to the artist. No one cares who wrote the music or lyrics.

@@akyhne I don't know where you read that I was not okay with ghostwriting or how producer credits are handled... One thing that I think should also be noted is the progression of "mood", at least in the Daniel Craig era. His Bond evolves from the reckless, shoot-them-all type to a more reflective and pensive type by (at least) Spectre (since I haven't seen No Time to Die). That presents the evolution from "You Know My Name" which is very rock and fast-paced, "Another Way to Die" which is still rock but slightly more muted in grandness. Then it turned to a grandiose but moody "Skyfall" as the narrative evolved to Bond being hurt and the problems become more personal and hit closer to home, literally and figuratively, which the trend continues in "Writing's on the Wall" where the stakes got higher. It all gets wrapped up in the narrative and musical motif in "No Time to Die". The progression, whether intentionally set by Eon or is coincidental from the artists is a thing that's fascinating.

No doubt No Time to Die and Skyfall are masterful, but my favorite - that got ignored entirely in this video - is Shirley's The World Is Not Enough. What No Time To Die lacked for me was the soaring crescendo in the last 30 seconds or so, that Tina's Goldeneye, Shirley's The World Is Not Enough, Adele's Skyfall, and the original Dr. No all had. I understand that is Billie adding her own spin on it - but arguably that's a core element of a good Bond song that I deduct marks for skipping.

One of the most insightful vids on Bond music I've seen. Some of these combinations are used in other movie scores and when you watch them you can hear a similar pattern and progressions. The minor chords with major overtones is quite a brilliant inclusion in the score. They make a huge difference to the overall experience. I am a musician so I am lucky. I love playing around with chord structures. When I play jazz I try not to improvise too much. I get the chords and actually write riffs around the chords.....Stan Getz did this. Listen to his solos on some popular Latin music and Bossa of his day. You'll find he is not improvising......he has actually scored every note. Its brilliant and it stood the test of time.

Thinking about the Sam Smith song, I think his song could be said to check off at least two of these elements-the instrumentation and the rising/falling motif. They both come in at the same time in sections instead of running through the whole song, so maybe that’s why it wasn’t considered?

It's splashes of music and sophistication - that's Bond! There are some dogma in classical and truly avant garde, I wouldn't say Madonna's song was weird. In fact, I think it's just edgy and refreshing. I listen to it repeatedly when it came out but I understand it is not everyone's cup of tea

For me as a movie fan, skyfall was the best "title sequence song". Following the action opening scene, it gave me goosebumps and foreshadowed the movie in an interesting way. The song should not be judged as a free standing work of musik. It should be seen together with the visiuals of the title sequence. While I lile the billie song, it does not really fit the movies tone. Bond is not a depressed and calm guy. He is someone that pushes away his emotions. So some bond version of "bad guy" would have been more fitting. Fore me

Yes but I do disagree. After also watching some interviews with Daniel Craig you hear him say how he had brought more emotion to James Bond. I feel like billie brings that emotion that James feels when he finally trusts and loves someone again only to find out that he was betrayed again perfectly in the song. I personally really love it.
@johncastle953 жыл бұрын
Actually on Daniel Craig's Bond he is an emotional depressed man. He is a more realistic human Bond than most bonds. No Time To Die fits perfectly actually specially when you watch the movie. I won't spoil anything for future commentors but all I gotta say is foreshadowing, the story is an elegy, and basically fits bonds current emotions on the film. So I believe you should rewatch it and pay attention.

On the topic of that "Bond Chord" If you freeze the frame at 6:28 and study the score that looks to me to be written as a C# and not a D#. Even so, I absolutely loved this!!!!! Thank you.

I think a little more time spent on The World Is Not Enough, Shirley Manson, Garbage would have been deserving. Its a gorgeous track, has all the Bond touch stones except maybe not being as brassy, it ends on the Bond Chord, and has twangy guitars through out. Its a shining example of an iconic sound. Maybe it gets less attention because the film was considered less than great? I think this one has a place up with the greatest bond themes. Her crescendo at the end its bombastic and intense. I love it. For the record, Billie and Finneas crafted a perfect Bond song. Along with Hans Zimmer’s orchestral layer, its exciting to listen to.

Billie Eilish' Version fits the movie perfectly. _If you do not want to get spoiled, do not press on_ _"... Read more" or check the replies to this comment._ Alright, with James Bond dying, Billie Eilish's version beautifully represents the sorrowful end of a legendary spy. It's softer than most other themes and with her soft singing, it states that the highlight of James Bond's life is already past. As the video mentions, Billie Eilish uses a lot of elements from the original, showing how Bond to the very end remained Bond. The message I get from her Bond song is: "Bond is here, but he's gone at the same time." Despite Bond being dead, he will live on in the memory of millions of people.
