And the weird part about it was he never looked at the long term consequences of his lying. He just saw it as solving that days problem. If you look at Chandlers behavior, it makes more sense if you look at it in that context. He never saw his actions beyond solving the immediate problem in front of him. He seems incapable of long term planning.

If you watch her on the stand, she explains to the attorney how they had been dating for a while, had plans to move to Florida, were shopping for houses, planning on getting married... and her eyes sorta glass over for a second and she almost seems to shake herself out of it and force herself to keep going. Her entire life was planned around getting married to a wonderful guy with a loving family and live the dream in the Space X community in Florida. Not only was that not happening, it had all been a lie from the start, and the man she loved had killed his own parents and dismembered them. Her whole life is crashing down in front of her and it's pretty clear she has no idea how to start over after all this.

They both came from good families who would have forgiven their poor choices and supported them. They were both closer to their mothers. After being convicted of first degree murder, they each sought out help from strangers. Grant begged for a millionaire and Chandler requested a pro bono attorney. They're both exactly where they belong.

I have 4 boys and we work really hard on teaching them how dangerous lying can become. I've listened to so many cases similar to this. A kid that just lies and lies and becomes so used to everyone's good opinion of him based on his lies that he ends up murdering his family so he doesn't have to face the disappointment of everyone knowing who he really is. It's scary. We try to teach them to be brave, face their consequences head on and apologize, like Joe Abercrombie says in his great fictional books, "Better to do it than to live in fear of it".

The whole trial in general is fascinating and notably cordial on the part of the prosecutor and judge all around for a murder case. The only time I recall either showing cracks in that professional face was during sentencing when the judge was clearly overcome by sadness, commenting that he's come to know the victims quite well through the trial and thus feels severe grief.

I followed this case from the start and even then Chandler was suspicious AF. I feel so bad for Mitchell, he lost his parents and brother at the same time. There's nothing wrong with his parents-they were loving and supportive. He made so much effort in covering up his lies when he could have just gone to school and get a job like his brother, Mitchell. He was never remorseful and he just wanted to laze around doing nothing. It's a parent's job to monitor their kids while they're under their roof, Chandler is just a lazy POS who didn't want to leave home but also won't follow their rules. My parents were very strict with me and my siblings growing up as they wanted us to take our studies seriously, finish our degree, get a job and leave home which we all did. If being strict and fussy with their kids is a justification for murder then millions would be gone. Chandler is an entitled psychopath who didn't want to work but expected his parents to put up with him and his lies. He deserves to rot in prison.

He hits so many of the behaviours and traits: Detached, cold and callous demeanor (flat affect), pathological lying, exaggerations and deceitfulness, lack of empathy, remorselessness, impulsivity, parasitic, superficial and shallow, unaffected and unafraid of consequences, blame shifting/lack of accountability, disregard for rules, laws and social norms, lack of conscience, abnormal ways of thinking, easily bored/low attention span and loss of interest, sense of grandiosity and entitlement, additionally many psychopaths have a capacity for cruelty and violence. I’ve watched everything there is on this case. I have a theory that there was always something different about Chandler and his parents “helped” him a lot. He was an Eagle Scout . His parents likely made that happen by pushing him, making sure he was where he needed to be when he needed to be there, setting up opportunities for him , over helping with the projects to make sure they got done . I think this went on his entire life. This is just my gut feeling but I could be wrong. I think they were so relieved he was in college and employed that they ignored the red flags. They weren’t stupid people. Bart was in a senior position at BDO, a huge national/international accounting firm. Because the trial happened so fast , just 6 or 7 months after the murders, we never got to learn more about Chandler’s history . What was he like growing up , as a teen? How did he do in high school? Why did his parents fall for all of his lies? It went on for so long!! There’s an interesting backstory here , that we may never get to know about. What I’m sure of is, he didn’t become a cold hearted killer who was able to cut his parents up and burn their heads in the fireplace, in one day.

Wisconsin’s own Grant Amato. Jeebus. Wow. Well done, Monsters. This is the best summarization of what this idiot did to his family. All because he was too lazy to make something of himself. That phone call between the college registrars office and Bart was heartbreaking. You can tell Bart is abrasive at first because he truly cannot believe it’s his son who lied. You can hear in his voice how he’s grasping for anything to prove it’s the college… then he lets go of all pretense and you can hear how much less combative he sounds. The parallels between the Halderson’s and the Amato’s is striking. Both families truly cared about their kids. Both had one kid who excelled and another who dragged his feet. The only difference was that Chaz had Cat - a real girlfriend who was also strung along.

It’s a big deal to me as I used to work in childhood diabetes (Type 1 obviously) and knew several people with T1 diagnosed at different ages. T1 diabetes is a catastrophic, life-changing and defining illness (as you know). While I’m not suggesting reversing T2 is as simple as making lifestyle choices, it’s reversible and doesn’t dictate life to you without choice like T1 does.

I went to HS with a kid like this who would tell lie after lie. As the years went by the lies became more extreme. They were fairly believable as a freshman. When we were seniors it became a joke to everyone some of the lies were so outrageous. 20 years later all I know is he’s been on the run across the country for owing money to people and scamming. Well said! I was a screw up too. My parents held me accountable and now I'm a responsible adult with my own family. My sister in law is a screw up who's always been coddled. Her mother always lets her move back in with her rent free. She hoards up the house, refuses to work, gets drunk all day, refuses to interact with (or even feed) her kids, and is very rude. She calls the police on everyone, including her family when she gets out-of-control angry. No one held her accountable- not even the police. They don't seem to care that she keeps wasting their time. Luckily she ran off with some loser and no one has seen her in months. She's 35 by the way. I hope her kids are okay and not around random men at drunken parties, but there's nothing I can do about it. TL;DR: fellow parents, do not coddle your screw up your kid. It will only make them worse. If your child seems unusually callous and lazy, seek professional help. Those red flags combined can signal danger.

A bunch of people recommending some crypto “expert” saying they make multiple thousands every month through her…. Many of the commenters have 1-2 comments on the whole channel. You should see her testimony, the prosecutor asks her why she thinks Chandler needed several bags of ice, and it dawns on her that Chandler used it to chill the bodies of his parents. Her eyes go wide and she just stares at Chandler, eyes wide, tears silently falling down her cheeks. She's naive, yes, but that's all. I don't understand why you and many others think she is a bad person, or was in on this somehow.
