In fact, foreigners can try to work in Taiwan's foreign trade and technology companies because of their English advantages.

Worldly Nomadic I’m agree with some points you’ve mentioned during the interviews. If there’s more and more foreigners do business in Taiwan, maybe bring more English shops here, more people communicate in English. Taiwanese will have more chance to be more international. If we have an environment that everyone can speak English in comfort way, maybe there will no need that much teacher which must be a foreigner (I say ‘comfort’ is because if we speak English in our life, most of time we’ll get ‘eye contact’ by others. If the people is your friends they may think what’s wrong with you) In my opinion, big problems that we are facing right now is the environment and the culture which is I always trying to changing in my life.
@WorldlyNomadic5 жыл бұрын
Winnie Jiang Great idea, creating an international environment for people to practice English will help everyone improve. Using eye contact is a key part of communication so definitely practice it too! Improving the environment and being green is a goal we should all focus on. Nice to meet you! 👍🏻
@a88096995 жыл бұрын
Worldly Nomadic nice to meet you too! But the ‘eye contact’ that I mentioned was when I was trying to speak English to chat/discuss, the other will see me as a weird person! Meanwhile, they give me an ‘eye contact’ and let me know how inappropriate or how bad the English I said. So other people’s eye contact is in bad way. Also an obstacle to speak English in Taiwan for us.
@WorldlyNomadic5 жыл бұрын
Winnie Jiang ok I understand. I think we should all encourage each other to learn new languages. Just as how when I learn mandarin practicing with native speakers helps a lot. And when we learn a second language it’s vastly harder so if someone gives you that eye contact they should change it to a more encouraging type of eye contact. You are doing great keep learning and hopefully I can learn mandarin too 👍🏻
@a88096995 жыл бұрын
Worldly Nomadic yes, so I’m trying to find someone who also interested in learning new language! And we switch language to practice! No any judgement and more discussion, also helpful! Wish you have a great journey in Taiwan! All the best😄

If you want to work in a local SME, I think having basic communication skills in Chinese (Mandarin)will become very important. If you want to work in a large international company, they actually welcome all foreigners to work in their company. Depending on the work environment, Taiwanese working in an international company are OK for communicating in English Conversely, in small and medium-sized enterprises, there may be only a few employees with good English communication skills. And there are very many small and medium enterprises in Taiwan, providing most job opportunities.

For those of us thinking about coming to Taiwan and spending a year or two, could you provide some information regarding apartment rentals outside the city center. I'm hoping living 10 to 15 minutes outside Taipei, one might be able to secure a small apartment for $300-400 US. What about a suburb like Shilin? Are apartments affordable there? Also how to locate legit real estate agents who specialize in rentals.

In Taiwan, if you aren't specified in a certain field that few people can deal with or you don't have a good social net or nepotism, it can be very difficult for you to get a decent job. That's why lots of people with master degrees or even PhD couldn't find a suitable job and are forced to go abroad to make a living. The ordinary salary in Taiwan is low compared to USA and so is the living cost but if you want to buy an apartment in Taipei, the price is as expensive as those in a big city in USA or even more. However you can be a KZbinr wile still keeping a day job such as teaching English in a cram school.
Suggest Taiwanese companies ti employees all English teachers to help advertised made in Taiwan products or international internet advertising.
