I too chose to drink to cope with a difficult situation. That was 13 years ago and I have drunk daily ever since with no off switch. Now I know why. Day 32 and it’s another tool for my sober toolbox. Thank you Annie. This video is a keeper!

Using alcohol for many years to relieve stressful situations, I realized that each situation became harder and harder. The stress compiles greater every time, especially when awaiting difficult medical diagnosis. I've also realized that my prayers are far more powerful under a clear mind. Faith over fear.

Over 10 wks sober.. energy levels are going up all the time.. feeling better in every aspect of life.. saved so much money it’s crazy.. proud of being better to my family... and yet saw my drinking * buddies* yesterday I was tempted to make plans to see them today as I’m off work... drink it’s the only drug you have to explain why you don’t want it.... ✌️

I so appreciate the way you bring science and data into this experience. It has been so so important for me. Thank you.

I think it's much harder to argue with science than emotion.

loved the topic of drinking to relieve stress and how the brain begins to believe alcohol is vital for our survival. That is so crazy! Our brain registers it as what we need to survive - SCARY - I was using wine as a stress reliever for a long time!

Great advice, Annie. Alcohol never helps when you’re going through a traumatic time, it just makes things worse.

To 1 of your points....Sobriety does bring you closer to the "Feel". The feel of emotions. The highes and lows and pain and happiness. Its a trip tbh! I wasnt expecting that!

Not drinking seems to be easy for me at the moment however I've replaced it with eating and just cognitive dissonance around eating. Só just want to be free from all this chatter and numbing out....clearly my subconscious ID is so strongly wired to numb out....slippery road

Very interesting part of how when people drink when in trauma, it can rewire them to think they need alcohol for survival, are there any articles, books about this behaviour?
