You have some clever solutions in this build. The amount of work you get done in addition to working a full time job makes me feel like a real slacker,

Yes sir ! They’re very rarely nice around here. Pretty typical for us here in the northeast. I hope this series helps a lot of people. Thanks for the support. 🙏🏼

Floors are looking good. Good job especially based on the fact that what you are starting with is pretty rough, but looks like it will be good and solid when you are done. This is a good example that someone doesn't have to start with a $5000 body to build a hot rod!
@ThisOldHotrod2 жыл бұрын
That’s exactly the reason I’m building this car. So many people shy away from a rough body. It’s more work but it’s possible to save them. Plus an added bonus of learning as you go. Thanks for following along.

I was watching the beginning of Iron Traps sweet heart roadster build yesterday which was in similar condition. Just takes a little time, determination and some ability to work with your hands.
@ThisOldHotrod2 жыл бұрын
Yeah his roadster was really rough. I remember it also. Shook loose on its way home. He got it home and it was worse than he thought. Lol. I know the feeling … t at least he has a roadster. Haha.

Dig your channel you definitely have all the right toys, I always looked at building some of those junk body's as a dead horse, you can't kill it but you definitely can make them better great job 👍

When I built my 30 I scored some old computer server cabinets. The lip in them was exactly the same as on the crossmember. I only had to bend 2 edges. I didn’t have to roll a bead in them as they would never “tin can”. A bit heavier but it isn’t a race car!

That car looks like fun I hope you keep going but I guess it all depends on how many extra parts you have laying around the shop would be nice to see the new buyer drive it out of your garage
@ThisOldHotrod2 жыл бұрын
I can appreciate what you’re saying. But I really don’t want to spend several months building the car. I’d like someone else to finish it. I’ve got quite a few parts on the shelves to help the next person out. Depending on what their plan is. Time will tell.
@justdale19662 жыл бұрын
Of course let someone finish it can't wait to see when you decide enough is enough it'll be a good roller

Okay, not sure how I got fed this on KZbin, but what a score. The pace and flow is good! Don't bore me with the duplicate of the other side as you did. Seems just right Mike, I love your shop and the vibe. Also I need a plasma cutter like yesterday. Q. What happens at the bottom of the tube supports? Big welded on washer with a fastener?
@ThisOldHotrod2 жыл бұрын
Heck ya man ! Thank you. I watched a lot of KZbin and know how you feel. I try to remove the boring crap. Thank you for noticing and taking time to comment. 👍🏼. Under the tube is the actual body mount the floor structure is welded to. That tube will be welded to the plate from underneath. So you have added support and access to the body mount. Trying to use my brain. 😁👍🏼✅

I subscribe to lots of "build" channels but yours is one I always watch first. You are really determined to make this rust bucket a drive-able car. I have noticed you don't clean the rust from the rusty panels where you weld. Do you have any trouble with the saturation of the weld?
@ThisOldHotrod2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for watching. I really appreciate it. I think I clean the rust haha. There’s just so much on this car. I don’t always show it I guess. But I do clean up what I can where I can. Otherwise I wouldn’t be able to weld it at all.

Floors look great. Which part do you enjoy the most? Fabrication, problem solving, mechanical assembly, etc. thanks
@ThisOldHotrod2 жыл бұрын
I really like the fabrication and the problem solving. I think the mechanics and assembly would be after that. It’s fun creating something.

Mike it is really coming very nice and I love the seats what are they from? Steven
@ThisOldHotrod2 жыл бұрын
The seats were out of a shuttle bus or Tram off Nantucket. I found the bud in a junkyard. I bought all 10 of them. These are the last set I have. I’ve sold the rest

How's the body going to connect to the floor ?
@ThisOldHotrod Жыл бұрын
It’ll be welded. But in the event the next person needs / wants to remove the floor or fix the body panels. I held off welding it. I said that during the video.
