Most definitely, it seems like I'll spend as much time looking for the tool than it takes to actually build whatever I'm working on.

I’m glad that you did this I would like for you to have each member of the show doing an organization project for tools, gardening, plumbing, electrical, masonry, etc. for both Shop and mobile. Also some manufactures that sell foam inserts will laser cut to your desire the foam for whatever tools you may have just send a picture.

I recently got 2-9 drawer cabinet/work top tool carts and have all my tools sorted now and it's so true that when you know where your tool is and it's easy to find, it's also easy to put them back!! I never put my tools away before.. Now, I know which drawer has what in it and can grab it and when done, it goes back just as easy.

Wow that is a profound lesson that you can apply to any diy project. When it comes to the struggle against chaos, when it’s possible, think like a lazy person; pick the path of least resistance and don’t always depend on willpower.

Second time that I have watched this video. My garage shop is being turned upside down and reorganized; for me it’s for the better. I just bought a second full height tool box and my OCD feels good; I’ve actually done some of these tips and will adjust a couple more. As someone else said, more organization videos.

You guys are doing a great job, I've learned quite a lot for the last 16 years of watching you. It's helped in the jobs I've had and have. Keep it up.

Years ago before I built my shop I had home projects. I found some bins I could hang on T brackets under my work bench. One bin had drills & bits, another had sanders & paper another hays a circular saw & tape measure. I could grab one bin, go to the work site of my house & have everything ready to go.

Thanks guys. Where I live it is hot and humid. I rub all my bare steel tools with a light oil regularly but surface rust remains a problem. The best things I have tried so far are anodizing or blueing but that isn't always a good option. Some other suggestions would be helpful.

I usually use a paste wax on my cast iron tops. I just keep a few cans in the shop near the tools. I used to buff the top when I was younger. I just apply it and leave it now. I have not had an issue with hand tools. If you are looking to try something else, paste wax may help with those.

Great video. We're setting up a wood working workshop in our small shed. Storage and access is a problem for us at the moment. I have a number of tape measures. Idea was to store them in strategic locations, but invariably they all end up in the same pile in the corner of the work bench, diagonally opposite to where they're needed...

I’m right there with Zach. My OCD tells that an item goes back where it came from, no procrastinating. Someone else in my house borrows things out of the shop and either doesn’t return it and I have to go searching for it, or puts it back in the wrong place (yes,I know where everything goes, I don’t have that big of a shop). And I do keep multiples of some items in different places…pencils, tape measures, etc.

But, if I organized all my tools and stuff, how would I get my 10,000 steps a day if I eliminate the minimum of five extra round trips between my current project and my workshop in the back of my 1.5 acre property to get the tools I should have gotten the first time, but forgot?

The fact that I just bought big expensive steel tool chests with lots of drawers and there was no option to buy organizers with them goes to show that nobody is doing this well. Like I can't even give money to a store to solve this problem.

That might help for a workshop, but not for site projects. I don’t organize tools. I prepare kits (toolboxes/tool bags/tool belts) for types of home repairs.

After getting a newer toolbox I have realize you can never have enough space. Ive already outgrew my toolbox and its less than 6 months old.
@gregmgm067 ай бұрын
I like my tools neat and organized, but I have more tools than space in the tool box, so they've overflowed onto my work bench. Time for a larger tool box!
@z15223 ай бұрын
While a lot of this is useful, I find the U- channels for very small items like driver bits to be overly complicated, and very wasteful of space. A wide variety of multi-compartmented Pill sorting containers are found at Walgreens and other Pharmacies, very inexpensive and the size of each segment can be chosen for very small screws, up to two inch bits. Most have snap-closing lids, and the container is both compact, easy to see through, and movable. Similar, but far more expensive, are fishing tackle containers, and Bead crafting trays are somewhere in between.
