the canal is stunning! I, however, am not fond of winter. I was raised in a desert so I am not terribly fond freezing cold >.< but it is lovely :)

You're half way there with Robin, get some dried mealworms from a bird food shop, put some in the palm of your hand & hold it flat where you put the food normally. Patience & being quiet & you'll get there, they learn fast. One of the squirrels in my garden takes walnut halves from my fingers.

Amazing thank you - we've just been giving them crumbled fat balls so will have to give the flat hand and patience a go! Good squirrel taming, impressed 🐿️

Even though it was so icy where you were or are still moored it looked so tranquilic and peaceful, lad you found someone who was able to find someone who had the right tool to help you get your cooker onto the boat with how heavy it was , good luck with getting your house/boat completed and hope you have enough of it done by the time your newest member of the family arrives

Have you got the engine in and the electric cables? Cause you could go 24v and not 12v. Lorries run around on 24v cars 12v. Lots of appliances now in the market at 24v. Performance is the key word. Cheaper and smaller cables.
@thistinylife Жыл бұрын
Hey Dene. So the motor will be 48v but the cabling running through the boat will be 12v and 240v. Most of our appliances are able to run off 12v which will also be kinda on the batteries
@DeneHickey Жыл бұрын
@@thistinylife could have gone 48v thru out? With a big winch at the front. Very marine.

I suffer the same thing when I am out walking in the cold. I layer up in thick socks and still my toes are frozen. I am told thermal neoprene toe warmers are good to wear. You wear them over your socks, between sock and shoe.
@thistinylife Жыл бұрын
Ah amazing, thanks Cheryl we'll check them out! Hoping we're nearly done with the cold weather....but the canal keeps freezing over at the moment ❄❄
@beautifully_wonderfullymade Жыл бұрын
I live in Sydney Australia now, in my opinion it doesn't get that cold where I live. I grew up down south in a colder part of Australia and experienced cold frosty mornings. I still travel further south and I am reminded of the cold that goes through to the bones and the painful 'frozen' toes, that no matter how thick my socks are I can't keep my toes warm. So I to will look out for them for this winter when I travel to the colder regions of Australia. The frozen canal water, n the frost or snow covered paths through my screen looks beautiful. Whats great about watching is, unlike you, I am not suffering from the cold. As you warm up, we start to cool down. Hope you have a lovely spring. Here where I live I look forward to the colours of Autumn.

Happy new year! We also want a spider crane... No idea what we'd do with it but what a cool piece of kit! Motor will be a Lynch Swordfish, meant to be pretty good and easy to repair which was an important consideration. We're still deciding on batteries 🙂

@@thistinylife I’m not sure what I’d do with one either or where to store it either but I’m sure I’d have fun! Cool will have a Google, I saw an electric boat a few years ago and they just had a massive bank of AGM leisure batteries and I just wondered if there was a better way. Half wondered if it was possible to use one of those big ones you get for houses. Anyway, very interested to see what you come up with!

Great vid how much is a sail away?
@thistinylife Жыл бұрын
It varies depending on size - at the moment I think they're anywhere from the upper end of 30k to 50ish - the cost of steel has gone up recently which is also a massive factor!
@lb1839 Жыл бұрын
Great video!! Question, where did you find the sailaway, or did you have to get it built? I'm looking for a sailaway but really don't want to wait until autumn to start the build 😅
@thistinylife Жыл бұрын
Heya! So we commissioned a new build sailaway from Dave Clarke. We had heard good things about his hulls! There can be quite a long waitlist for shells to be built and everything ALWAYS gets delayed. We were meant to have this delivered in the summer however, delay after delay meant we didn't get her till October!
