Hey just wanted to say this was a beautiful, and very thematically satisfying edit, with wonderful music choice! I think I especially loved the last third of the edit, in just how the overlaid audio matched so perfectly with the visuals, but it was altogether so cohesive and well thought-out, I feel like this'll be one I go back and rewatch often, thanks for making it :'D!

WOW! Thank you so much for the kind words. Steven was my personal favorite of the siblings and I think while I was making the video I was trying to make people understand him more :)) So your words meant a lot :)

@@littlehellhound1014 Just wanted to come back and say I've literally been watching this at least once a day since my last comment so suffice to say I think he was my personal favorite too haha. And that definitely came through, your ability to help the audience understand a character more through incredible editing, so once again, I'm glad I found this video :')

People hate on Steve for legitimate reasons. For me, his biggest moral failure was not telling his wife he'd had a vasectomy when they (or at leasr she) was trying to get pregnant. That is inexcusable. It's a hateful act on someone he loved, but rationalized using his Mother's mental illness. However, we see how attentive and loving he was at Hill House. He took his role as the big brother seriously and with compassion. I think he is instinctuallly good, but the trauma of his mother's death pushed him into a more cynical view of the world. Luke's relapses certainly didn't help. I say this as the "Luke" in this situation who luckily has three older brothers and an exceptional sister. Steve is deeply flawed, but trying. I think that is what resonates most for me.

For the vasectomy part, I couldn't agree more. That was selfish and disgusting for a partner to do. No excuses. Normally, as the youngest one in the family, I shouldn't be rooting for him, but I think Steve's flaw comes from the fact that he believes he is the only sane person in the family. And maybe Shirley. I think as the oldest sibling who repeatedly tried to help his troubled siblings and them letting him down over and over again, he developed a defense mechanism against his whole family. Plus, his role models were his parents and they both, from his perspective, let him down. I agree with you. The trauma from the hill house fucked his mental health and changed his whole perspective about his family. He IS indeed flawed, but trying. Thanks for the comment and thanks for watching my video :) And I'm happy that you have such beautiful siblings to help you out.
