Thom Yorke
Dawn Chorus
Live at Montreux Jazz Festival 2019
Auditorium Stravinski, Montreux, Switzerland
04.07.2019
lyrics:
Back up the cul-de-sac
Come on, do your worst
You quit your job again
And your train of thought
If you could do it all again
A little fairy dust
A thousand tiny birds singing
If you must, you must
Please let me know
When you’ve had enough
Of the white light
Of the dawn chorus
If you could do it all again
You don't know how much
Pronto pronto, moshi mosh
Come on, chop chop
If you could do it all again
Yeah, without a second thought
I don't like leaving
The door shut
I think I missed something
But I'm not sure what
In the middle of the vortex
The wind picked up
Shook up the soot
From the chimney pot
Into spiral patterns
Of you, my love
You take a little piece
Then you break it off
It's a bloody racket
It’s the dawn chorus
If you could do it all again
Big deal, so what?
Please let me know
When you've had enough
It's the last chance
O.K. Corral
If you could do it all again
This time with style

The best song Thom's written in a decade. And I think they may be his best ever lyrics. Yeah, thinking about it, I think they are...What a track.

Dawn Chorus is catharsis amid contemplation. Such pathos to this song, but from a distance. Sorrow and joy and all that accompanies both sides. When you think to your deepest, softest memories with someone and you lose them, all you are left with is hollow resignation. Yet there are moments when you’re sitting at a table late at night and you’re grateful for the time you are given. You carry with you those you lose in this life.

"After the death of Rachel Owen-his former partner and the mother of his children-Thom Yorke, like many before, sought relief in Thom Yorke songs. He speaks of his return to creativity, and the way music airlifts the grief-stricken from despondency, in near-mystical terms. “If it’s needed,” he told the New York Times, “it will find you.” Perhaps it’s telling that, on the solo album ANIMA, Yorke appears to confront his loss on a song called “Dawn Chorus.” It’s a title (if not the same composition) that fluttered around Radiohead lore for years. Famous to fans for its incompletion, it may, to Yorke, have symbolized refuge and endurance." ~Pitchfork 🙏🏼

I've been listening to this song on repeat since then. i hope thom yorke knows how much of an impact he's made just by putting this song in the world.

I’m just going to comment wholeheartedly that if you loved codex, cymbal rush, motion picture soundtrack, Harrowdown hill, Fog, True Love Waits, Decks Dark, Street Spirit, How to Disappear Completely, All I Need and Let Down… And this song you played on repeat for an entire night in awe that this man’s mountain had an even higher peak of molecular spirituality… Then I want nothing more than for all your dreams to come true and for the world to become your love. Btw my favourite Dawn Chorus was in Scotland in the summertime. The moment was a magical as this song. The way it ties that Palaeolithic mania of the first light and the cell phone metropolis of broken dreams is why this song needs to go on our next space probe. The live version is better, but that synth patch is it’s own success. Thankyou Thom for being famous and precious, that hits hard for everyone. Deserved and adored.

My mom is sick. I went on holiday to the beach without my family for the very first time in my life, trying to disconnect myself and looking for some kind of answers. Me and my friends popped some lsd and decided to go to the sea. I remember just taking my earpods off my pocket, playing this song, and staring at the sunset in front of our eyes with the waves crashing violently arround us. It was probably one of the most beautiful moments in my life and I really hope everyone in this world may be able to learn that much when connecting with nature through art. Thanks Thom, your music always help me when I'm searching for answers.

Absolutely amazing! Beautiful! The left turns throughout his (& Radiohead's) career never cease to amaze. The piano is simple and brilliant. The lyrics are genius. Laying down the vocals in a flat & monotone manner bring the emotion through even further. If anyone else had given this performance it would bore the crowd.. Thom is captivating. Thanks Thom!

I went on an interrail with my 3 friends this summer and we made a playlist with all the song recommend by people we would meet on the journey. When our train broke on the way from Prague to Berlin, on the 16th of August, we had to spend the night at the train station with a Hungarian guy who, later, added this song to our playlist. He had a yellow shirt and white pants, messy hair and a necklace with a lil flower, he said that he loved Italian cinema and that's the only thing we know. I don't know his name and I know it's impossible for me to find him...but I just wanted to let him know that it was nice spending the time at the station with him near us :)))
