A lot of us home players have only got space/budget for one amp and we need to get a lot out of it. Would love to see a video or video series where you guys take a few of those all in one tube amps, like the H&K tubemeister/grandmeister, Marshall JVM, Blackstar HT series etc and find classic tones with them, with and without pedals, e.g. Country twang, blues, classic rock, modern metal, to really show the versatility and help people pick one that nails the styles they like. Your videos are so informative and I think you guys could do the best job with this sort of subject!

There is an opinion that modern digital combo speakers (yamaha thr, positive grid, boss katana) give good sound and are not too loud for home use.
@jroobz Жыл бұрын
Tips for settings - volume 12, fat switch off, treble 5, bass 6, middle 5, master 6, reverb 3.5. Nice versatile overdrive sound without any harshness, cleanup with guitar volume. I had a bias mod added to drop the fixed bias, to calm the amp down a bit and not burn through tubes so fast.
@CrazyCalabrese78 Жыл бұрын
That’s loud 😂 I cranked mine for a few mins. Master on 12 and volume on 9. No pedals. Sounded full and open and backing off the guitar volume gave great cleanup. But I can’t play that loud very often so I’m looking at a speaker that takes overdrive pedals better than the Jensen which can get muddy in the mids and harsh on the top end. Like there’s too much presence or something. Do you know what the mod was for the bias?

Blues jr is great if you play in a band - because there's a difference between playing on your own or within a band context. The Blues jr is great when what you really need is the mids to stand out and have your sonic space in the song.
@ThomannsGuitarsBasses Жыл бұрын
Such a good point! 🙌 It's basically made for stage use and not to impress at home playing alone. //Kris
@olivarionline Жыл бұрын
@@ThomannsGuitarsBasses The way I see it, not necessarily at home and alone. If you're for example in a trio, say with a saxophone and a singer, you need all the bass you can get because there's no one there to fill that lower end space. So in that case I would suggest an amp with a bigger speaker. But in a live band with drums and bass, the first thing that the soundman is going to do is apply a hi-pass filter to the guitars, so in that case, with a Blues Jr, you would not have a slot of extra frequencies particularly on stage that are ultimately removed from the front of house/monitors mix anyway. My point is that it depends on the type of use the amp is needed for, not just the sound itself. That's just my opinion though - I might be wrong.

Blues jr lover here. Modded mine with BillM mods and never looked back. My amp takes pedals great and I get great tones from it. I also set my master on ten and the volume around 3ish. Also use a 12au7 preamp tube, more headroom due to less gain of the tube. Big difference to my ears. This all adds up to a really good amp.

Hi Kris, I own a Fender Blues Junior USA 1997 and i run it with the volume on 5, treble on 5, mid on 5/6, bass on 12, master around 4 (sweetspot) and reverb around 6...... I don't use the "Fat" switch...... For pedals: From guitar - Korg Pitchblack XS - Morley Classic Wah - Ibanez TS9 - Ibanez TS9 - Carl Martin Chorus X II - Ibanez AD9 - to amp...... If i need a more "hardrocky" sound i use a guitar with humbuckers and turn down the mid...... Same as with my Fender Hot Rod Deville USA 1996, both sound pretty simular, but the Junior is more suitable for smaller gigs...... But never have any sound issues with my Blues Junior......

a great example how different speakers can transformer an amp ,, The jensen has more 1 kHz and more 5Khz brightness. The Celestion A-type has more midrange around 600-700Hz and much darker above 3.5kHz.. I really like this guys videos. Informative and he has a great personality. I saw another guy comparing a boss bd2, a boss sd1 and a boss od-3 with a fender deluxe reverb with the bright Jensen C12N. It was obvious that the BD-2 with its scooped midrange and excessive top end is not a good match with that speaker.. (he had the tone knob around 11.30 o'colck) .. The 0D-3 was good at transforming the fender amp more to a marshall sound.. The SD1 worked best with the amp started to overdrive on its own a little.

Great video, thanks Kris. I have the tweed version and found it fussy with drive pedals. Using the Keeley compressor as a boost actually sounded nice. I run the bass at 0 as it flubs out when being driven with humbuckers. Treble around 3 and mids the same. With volume at 5-6 I get some breakup. If you can run the master even at 3-4 it opens up nicely. When I get back from holidays I’ll keep trying drive pedals with those settings.

I prefer the basic sound of the Pro Junior to be honest - volume, tone, 15W and a 10" speaker - smaller cab but not boxey. At the risk of repeating myself (other forums) the Pro Junior has had to sub one of the two 40W Hot Rods the guitarists in my band routinely use, and it's certainly pokey enough for small/medium bar gigs (mic on kick drum only and vocal PA). Volume on the edge of breakup (around 4 which is were the volume is basically maxed out) with a BB preamp type pedal for more gain. Speaker out is a bit fiddly, but is there if you want to move more air.

Are there any differences between the two versions of the Blues Jr. other than the cosmetics and the factory-installed driver? Because frankly, neither of those drivers is very good, and I would immediately replace them, but if there are other changes to the circuit, then I'd like to know. My current Mesa/Boogie F-50 1x12 combo is very heavy for its size, and I'm looking for something smaller and cheaper that I could use for jam sessions, and the like. I would still be controlling my tone from my pedalboard, but the pedalboard I use for jam sessions is much smaller and simpler than the one I use for regular gigs.

I can’t, for example, justify owning 4 or 5 ODs, Delays, Dstrs, etc. Plus listening through earbuds on a phone. You get the picture. We can’t swap gear like baseball cards. I currently own a Player Series Tele and that thing out of the factory has way too many problems with it. I absolutely love the sound and the feel of the Tele, but not sure if i want to spend so much on getting it to play right, or if i should just look for a new one. We are talking cost of leveling and crowning frets, nut replacement, and set up. Plus i would still need to find a good luthier in my area first. Might be easier and cheaper to sell my Tele to replace it with another one. Despite the problems, its a guitar i instantly connected with, which makes this decision hard.
