What Does It Mean To Be Free is a song that questions my associations with the word ‘Freedom’ and how it is being used and abused. The video was made in collaboration with Dutch photographer and artist Jesper Boot. I was intrigued by his photography project: Power and for this song he worked with footage from police-car chases in America. Pairing these raw images with the tenderness of What Does It Mean To Be Free, Jesper created this beautiful tension which in a way illustrates perfectly the ambivalence trapped in the word.

Je subis actuellement des accusations calomnieuses pour des faits graves. J'ai du endurer garde à vue et perquisition à mon domicile, menoté, alors que je suis innocent. Au fond de ma petite cellule au commissariat, sans chaussures ni lunettes, je me posais exactement cette question "what does it really mean to be free ?" Pour moi la réponse tiens dans ma liberté intérieure, de respirer, de sourire, de chanter l'amour dans un monde froid et sans cœur. Merci Thomas de l'avoir retranscrit en musique.
