I can't articulate just how much I love this theme. Not only does it sound sorta like a diesel horn, but it's also sorta oily if that makes sense. Oily would be a great fit for any villain, but it works particularly well for a train that literally runs on the stuff.

@@wumpus976 It's probably that Steam locomotives sort of feel "Alive" and have plenty of variety in shape, whereas Diesel Locomotives almost always have this boxy shape to them because of the prime mover, they have a sort of "Alien" feel to them when compared to steam locomotives. Instead of a whistle, there's a horn which always sounds the same. They don't have the same charm as a steam locomotive does.

This is a bizarrely haunting tune. The bass-clarinet ostinato is its backbone, spiced by the rhythmic section. And then the piccolo comes in, like a snake coiling and slithering. Indeed, because this melody reminds me of the stereotypical snake-charmer music and I think this was intentional on the part of the composer. That said, very well done, as usual, and a very becoming outfit as well.

it reminds me of jazz, in the sense that's it's kind of in a minor key. it really captures the devious, ominous feeling that you get when listening to a villain theme, however it's upbeat to the point where it's still energetic.

Initially, it looked like Duck was willing to give Diesel a chance, but as they left the shed, Duck's hunches must have been telling him that something didn't feel right. Like there was more to Diesel's first appearance on Sodor than even Sir Topham Hatt was seeing, and it may spell doom for the steam engines. How did Diesel know about Henry, Gordon, and James, but not Thomas, Edward, Percy or Toby? I know Edward was running his brabch line, and Thomas and Toby were working on Thomas' branch line while Percy was getting repaired, so Diesel didn't get a chance to see those engines before returning to the other railway.
