Join Tony and me as we venture off the Ironton Trail in Hokendauqua, Pennsylvania, to uncover the fascinating remains of the Thomas Iron Works. This historic site marks one of the first commercially successful anthracite-powered iron-making operations in the United States.

Well look who was in my backyard. Your pronunciation of Hokendauqua was spot on. Nice job Jenn that's a tough one. I've never explored the Hokey side but I was just over on the Catasaqua and Northampton side the last two weeks. Hope you get a chance to see everything this area has to offer. Love your optimistic views on everything Jenn. Great video.

Hi Kevin, Oh I'm thinking I'm going to be in your neck of the woods a lot. Sooooo many cool areas to explore in the Lehigh Valley. Maybe one of these days will pass right by each other. Two crazy KZbinrs pointing at things while talking to a camera...lol Thank you for watching, my friend!

@@jennsylvania1633😆🤣 So after watching this video I decided to go explore over on the Ironton trail side. Oh my is there so much over there!! More of a scouting trip but wow is the fall going to be fun. Nothing would make me happier than to bump into a fellow camera walker/talker. Have a great week Jenn 😊

Yes to pants!! That structure is massive! It's very pretty! I love when nature takes over. The arches are lovely. The iron on the roof makes it extra pretty. I like Tony. He's good people. 😁 👋 At least they're putting all the trash in one spot. 😢 Nature's velcro! 😄 They do a lot of motocross and offroading vehicles at Centralia too. That ring around the tree is cool. I instantly thought "paint can". 😆 WOWWW, it has changed so much!! 🤯 Great video! 😃💚👊

Wow thanks for the flashback. In the 80's my buddies and I would hang out drink beers and 4 wheel around. One evening we found a tunnel by the river, we grabbed flashlights and went in, about 200' later we came to another tunnel going in a different direction. Eventually we ended up inside the concrete building with crows flying around the steel trusses, a dog had wondered in couldn't find its way out and died. It was like a horror film. At the time there was no way out of the building. I think the tunnels have been filed in,

I believe that you are most likely referring to the building that Tony and were unable to find a way into. So, the tunnels would explain a lot. Yeah, they are most likely filled in and that's probably a good thing. That said, sounds like you had a lil' adventure back in the day. Thanks for sharing as well as for watching the video!

I knew going in that this would most likely be an interesting explore, but I was blown away by the scope of these ruins. Very cool place to check out!

Hi Sue, yeah, I was surprised by how large this old building was and how much was still intact. In time I hope to venture out of PA and do some video exploring. When in CT or NY State, it would be really cool to meet up with you and do a colab.

Very neat ruins. I was just expecting you to explore that first tall structure, but there were many more ruins and stone walls. Great advice about long pants for a type of explore like this. You could hear a little motor cross noise, but not too bad at all.

After I came back and did further research, there's probably a lot more hidden under the brush. Not sure I'll ever go back, so I'm glad that I saw the most prominent ruins. Thank you for watching, my friend!

As I am watching this video, I am visualizing you in some ancient Mexican rain forest exploring and looking for Mayan temple ruins. I think that would really get your curiosity going and what a blast you would have!....Daniel

You are literally in my backyard. I live along the Ironton Rail Trail and walk it all the time. I was just on the old railroad bridge in Hockendauqua this week taking pictures. You may or may not know that you are along the Lehigh River which is the same river you saw on your Appalachian Trail video where you got lost. That area you are in is know as "the ruins" by locals and has always been a big teen hangout. Recently that property has been posted with no trespassing signs which is kind of annoying. I love exploring down there.

Hi Charlie I love exploring in the Lehigh Valley...so much history! The no trespassing signs don't seem to be keeping the dirt bikes and quads out....lol...it's like a motocross track down there. Thanks for watching, my friend!
