I believe the Noel Gallagher quote about Johnny Marr not being able to re-learn old Smiths songs was something like "He's so good, even he's not as good as him."

I'm years late, but this is by far one of the best videos I've ever seen on KZbin. I grew up watching Thomas Lennon since the earliest days on The State. Hearing these two talk about Morrissey and The Smiths in such an intimate and passionate way in a matter of moments is incredible. It's the same way I carry on when I discover others' passion for Morrissey and The Smiths. Much respect for you both, I could easily watch hours upon hours of this banter while hanging on the edge of my seat.

"I dreamed about you last night and I fell out of bed twice" was a line that I wrote in a love letter to my husband, in the early 90's, who guided me where I needed to be for he passed in 2004 and got me to where I am now -single and just biding my time for greatness...

I have met Thomas Lennon at a TV taping Carson Daly show for Morrissey.. Screamed Morrissey's name got a wave. Thomas walked by after and said hello to me in the stands. We became friends on MySpace top 8 status lol. He remembered me. I've had the privilege of touching Morrissey's hand a grasp.

Why was this only 45 minutes?!? I think I could take another 8-10 hours of Thomas Lennon talking about The Smiths. I love how Morrissey makes poetry out of awkwardly bland lyrics like "And he stole from the rich and the poor and the not very rich and the very poor."

I still remember THE first time I heard The Smiths. I was a senior in High School, I was really into Hip-Hop and Rap back then (still am but in those years it was the only thing I heard) it got to a point where that kind of music wasn't really talking to me, I could not really relate my self with it. I was watching VH1 one night, it was around mid night and they had this little section with "classic" videos from the 80's; I just saw this black background with the bold work PANIC on it and that chorus was the end and the new beginning for me "burn down the disco, hang the blessed DJ, because the music they constantly play, it says nothing to me about my life". That day I saw the light and never looked back. I have the same type of conversation with a cousin of mine whom I never knew was a big Smiths / Morrisey fan and this is just heaven, the best 45 minutes of my life watching two people talk the I I've talked about the band I love in the world, just brought tears to my eyes, LITERALLY !!!

I loved this, Lennon is so hilariously intense about everything, but if you are a Smiths fan, you know there is no other option. Shame on you Chris Gethard for skipping over Death At One's Elbow, one of Marr's best rockabilly-tinged compositions.

I remember the first time I heard the Smiths. I grew up listening to The Cure albums my mom had and fell into that Robert Smith and Morrissey hate each other thing so I never gave them a listen. Years and years later I bought Neil Finn’s 7 Worlds Collide dvd that had Johnny Marr playing along side him. As soon as I heard them go into There is a Light That Never Goes Out I realized the err of my ways. So pissed I waited so many years to give them a listen. Love The Smiths and Morrissey. Marr’s guitar work is incredible from The Smiths up to his current projects. Morrissey’s lyrics and vocals are some of the best.

The 'Reel Around the Fountain' lyric "I dreamt about you last night, and I fell out of bed twice..." is a direct quote from the film 'A Taste of Honey', quite famously so (kzbin.info/www/bejne/fniuhaFvh9apo7c). Super fans such as these two should know that, surely? Maybe they did and they just failed to mention it...

You both say Strangeways correctly. Strangeways is a prison in Manchester. I am from Manchester, although I have never spent time in Strangeway prison, I used to work a stone's throw away. Edit: You mentioned the "take-over". That was at the same time as I was working across the road. I saw it with mine own eyes. I also had a cousin who was inside Strangeways at the time. Happy days.

I was in 3rd grade ('85) when I first bought my first Smiths record, Hatful of Hollow.. The Mick Ronson produced pYour Arsenal is pretty special, as well as the debut Viva Hate which I also got immediately on vinyl when it came out. I grew up with those records that's why they are special to me. But I have equal appreciation for Marr, Rourke, and Joyce these days. Especially Marr.. I mean just listen to his guitar parts on Billy Bragg's "Greetings to the New Brunette".. Oh, they're big in Manila too.

Loved this, but hard to understand how Thomas had not yet heard of I Keep Mine Hidden until the Janice sessions, which leads me to believe he wasn't as "in" to them (at the time) as much as he professes. We anxiously awaited and devoured each single release and b-side over and over until (and after) the NEXT one.

The first smiths song I heard was bigmouth strikes again in an old 2005 skate video. I liked the song but I didn't delve into them until recently and I am completely enthralled at the moment. Such incredible and transcendent music. I don't understand how you can like the band more than the solo stuff though. His solo stuff trumps all. With evil legal eagles!!!! I don't understand why grown ups, including myself (look at my avatar), is so obsessed with The Smiths (btw. I'm 57 when writing this). I'm mocking millennials (aka. zombielennials) for worshipping (currently South Korean) boy bands, but here I am, (and there I was) doing the same with an (admittedly intellectually more advanced) 80's alternative rock band. Edit: What I'm trying to say/ask: what is it with us Smith fans. Why are we so committed to these lyrics and melodies?. Lennon, Bowie, Dylan, etc... (did I forget someone?),- they weren't amateurs, they knew how to write those `Ever Greys`!. But Marr and Moz, to me, just jangled and sang along and almost their whole catalogue was this unique collection of these `Ever Greys` that losers like you and I will always appreciate as something that represent the real feelings of `You and I and the world`! Edit2: Very disingenuous, I kind of answered my own question with my biased opinion. Please refute.
